Movies, TV & Video Programming to the Consumer All Video All the Time: Broadband, IPTV, DVD & Mobile
Movies, TV and video programming delivered via broadband Internet! An idea that seemed to be dead on arrival just a year or two ago, is an industry on the verge of busting out. SVOD, VOD - features delivered via the Internet - via the PC and via the set-top is very much a part of our future. A centerpiece of this anticipated future is the expectation that the PVR, the Personal Video Recorder will become a fixture on the next generation of all home PCs as well as in Set-tops. Add to that a wireless connection between the PC/PVR and the Set-top or TV, and it doesnt take brain surgery to see how the herky-jerky downside of IP delivery of rich media will become a thing of the past or at least a secondary consideration as consumers download content to the PVR and play it back in crisp, full screen DVD quality. Under this scenario, Internet SVOD will become a full competitor to SVOD via the cable or satellite. IP delivery of features is about to reshape the landscape of the film industry.

CRAIG E. ENGLER, Senior Vice President, SCIFI.COM & SCI FI Magazine: Craig E. E ngler was named Senior Vice President, SCIFI.COM and SCI FI Magazine in February 2006. Mr. Engler is responsible for the digital growth and expansion of SCI FI, including the continued development of original online content, and the launch of a new broadband network. Under Mr. Engler's leadership, SCI FI Channel has been on the forefront of digital technology with innovations like the critically acclaimed 'Battlestar Galactica' podcast and videoblog by the show's executive producers and the expansion of the daily entertainment news service Sci Fi Wire. Engler began working with SCI FI in 1997 as a consultant and joined them full time in 1999 after the Channel acquired his online publication business. The award-winning SCIFI.COM is both the official site of the SCI FI Channel and also the largest general interest sci-fi website in the world. It has won numerous awards including the "people's choice" Webby, the Flash Forward Award and the Nebula Award (the first time it was awarded for an electronically published story). Recently, the site won a prestigious Hugo Award, an annual recognition handed out by sci-fi fans at the World Science Fiction Convention. Besides offering in-depth info about all of SCI FI's original programming, the site also provides content about the entire sci-fi genre including reviews of the latest books and films; daily news; an events calendar with hundreds of listings; and more. Prior to joining SCIFI.COM full-time in 1999, Mr. Engler founded Science Fiction Weekly, the first Internet magazine devoted to science fiction. While serving as its publisher & editor, the weekly was named best sci-fi 'zine on the Internet by Yahoo! Internet Life. It was sold to the SCI FI Channel in 1999. From 1994 to 1997 Mr. Engler worked for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), where his last position was Electronic Publishing Editor for IEEE Spectrum, their flagship magazine. Prior to his stint with IEEE, he held several positions in journalism. As a freelance writer, Mr. Engler's credits range from 'The New York Times' to 'Wired.' In addition, for four years he served as an "expert editor" for Amazon.com, and he also consulted for Yahoo! Internet Life. He is a regular speaker at events like Digital Hollywood, Blog-On and the Digital Media Summit, and has participated in the AFI's Enhanced Television program. Mr. Engler graduated with a dual B.A. degree in Magazine Journalism and English from the S.I. Newhouse School at Syracuse University.
Larry Smith, Chief Operating Officer North America, Vice President Worldwide Busin ess Development, ARCHOS: Larry Smith manages North American operations and Business Development worldwide for ARCHOS, overseeing the marketing, sales, distribution, strategic partnerships, and customer support for the company worldwide. His focus on forging relationships with major media companies around the globe drives the companys content development strategy for its award-winning line of portable media players. Smith has more than 20 years experience in the entertainment, technology and retail industries, and joined ARCHOS from On Command Video Corporation, where he oversaw sales and operations for the in-hotel entertainment company. Previously, he was executive vice president of sales and marketing at IntelliReady Inc., a start-up venture designed to provide integrated home electronics services, and prior to that was cofounder and executive vice president of Internet Gift Registries, later acquired by Modern Bride. Smith has held sales and distribution positions in the satellite and cable industry at companies such as EchoStar Communications, Request Television, The Home Shopping Network and was one of the earliest employees at CNBC. Smith holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Missouri.
BRADFORD C. AUERBACH: Mr. Auerbach is a senior entertainment executive wit h extensive and unique expertise in production, content acquisition, Intellectual Property law and licensing, on a global level. He is currently handling Strategic Business Development with Hewlett-Packard for the mammoth Video Merchant Services project. He has had success in structuring many groundbreaking deals with a diverse range of rightsholders, including NFL, HBO, MTV, Olympics Committee, Screen Actors Guild, every Hollywood studio, Peter Gabriel, ESPN, Sesame Street/CTW, among numerous others. He has deep familiarity with each aspect of the media business, having sat on all sides of the deal-making table, on behalf of mobile, cable, satellite, Internet, hardware, software, distribution and production companies. He has held positions as Senior Legal Counsel with QUALCOMMs MediaFLO initiative, General Counsel for Philips Media (a division of Royal Philips Electronics, Netherlands) and Head Counsel, Business Affairs for Astro/MEASAT (Malaysia), the premier direct broadcast satellite operator in South East Asia. As the lead attorney of Business Affairs for Programming at Starz/Encore he structured the pay television industrys largest Hollywood studio output deal, and the first to include SVOD (Subscription Video On Demand) rights. Mr. Auerbach started his entertainment media career at Disney Home Video, where he handled business affairs for the industrys leading home video company, including the companys first copy protection deal and the companys first Pay Per Transaction deal. He has published myriad entertainment articles worldwide, and has presented his views at numerous industry conferences. Mr. Auerbach helped form the Digital Entertainment Group, the industry-wide consortium that was the primary catalyst for the launch and spectacular success of the DVD format. He was the founding Executive Director of the DVD-Audio Council, and has consulted to a handful of cutting edge clients. His past engagements include Warner Music Group, Playboy, Macromedias Mobile group and the Getty Museum. He holds a patent with Qualcomm relating to mobile phone media technology. ALKI DAVID, Chairman & CEO, Filmon.com - Alki David is a multi-faceted and dyna mic business-man. Mr. David has built up his own self-made media group that includes London based ICM Models with Duncan Heath, 111 Pictures Film Sales venture with Elliot Kastner and most recently the 111Pix/Filmon VOD distribution portal. 111Pix/Filmon is the world largest aggregator of independent content in the World, boasting in excess of 14,000 titles ranging from how tos, special interest videos, movies and television programming licensed from the Independent sector. With over 60 Content partners that include Granada, Canadian Broadcasting Company, Playboy, Rive Gauche to name but a few, 111Pix has developed its primary portal Filmon.com to exploit these titles across many platforms that include the Web, Set-Top Boxes, Mobile Phones and Operating System Media bundles. Furthermore, Filmon3d.com is a 3D virtual world in the look and feel of Beverly Hills where users to the free service are able to preview movies exchange movie info experience Filmon made content and buy movies through the Filmon Web Portal. Mr. David spends his time between his Wardour Street headquarters and his Greek island home of Spetses, where he has produced, directed and starred in several inependent movies and television shows including Fishtales with Billy Zane and Kelly Brook, Killing Brigitte Nielsen and The Freediver. Mr. David has also acted leading roles in several Studio movies and mini-series including The Grid for BBC/TNT, Flight of Fury for Sony Screen Gems and most recently Baker Street Bank Job alongside Jason Statham and Saffron Burrows. Current internet content productions include the World Record Freedive by Austrian diver Herbert Nitsch, who dived down to 214 Meters (712 feet) and back up on a single breath of air. In October 2007 Filmon.com publishes Miss Black Filmon and interactive beauty pageant website. Other developments spearheaded by David in the early 90s include the Snow Java Browser with then San Francisco based World Wide Web Inc and Miss Internet 1995. Of Greek Cypriot origin, Mr. David is the heir to a fortune of the Leventis David dynasty who amongst their many business interests is the worlds second largest Coca Cola bottler in the world, Coca Cola Hellenic Bottling CCBC, producing and distributing Coca Cola products in twenty-eight countries around the World. Once in the shipping industry, Mr. David was on the board of directors who built up the once troubled Navios Maritime business and sold it off for a price in excess of $700 million USD.
Lisa Crane Greer, Managing Partner, Media Venture Advisors. Ms. Crane has a reput ation for strategic thinking, branding, and new economy leadership. From charting the course for a groundbreaking online entertainment venture to guiding one of the major television networks through uncharted Internet territory, her success stems from an ability to build and direct profit-oriented management teams. Lisa Crane is the Managing Partner of Media Venture Advisors, an e-consulting firm providing strategic consulting services to leading Internet and entertainment companies. Ms. Crane is the former president and CEO of Soundbreak.com, the interactive online music company. She was Vice President of NBC Interactive and General Manager of NBC.com, the network's flagship entertainment website. Prior to NBC, Ms. Crane served as Vice President of Universal Studios. Education & Affiliations: Lisa Crane holds an MBA from Pepperdine University and a bachelor's degree from UCLA. Crane has held seats on the boards of two public companies, and currently sits on the board of advisors of the Digital Media Marketing Organization, Proximity File, Spiderdance, On2.com, The Dial.com and Pulse Entertainment. Ms. Crane is active in the Motion Picture and Television Fund. She is also one of the most popular speakers on the internet conference circuit, having spoken at Internet World, Streaming Media West, emediatainment world, adtech, Ebiz, Digital Hollywood, NAB, the Morgan Stanley/Industry Standard Internet Summit, DDMI, CMJ/Change Music, BandWidth, Digital Coast 1999/2000, Herring on Hollywood, Variety's Internet Summit, Jupiter's PlugIn, Radio & Records, VIC's Industry Breakfast, and many others. Lisa has also taught several classes at major universities on e-business and entertainment, including USC and UCLA.
Brian Monnin, VP of Publishing Products, Brightcove: Brian Monnin leads the development of online editing tools for publishers on Brightcove. He also manages the Brightcove Seattle office. Prior to joining Brightcove Brian was CEO and co-founder of MetaStories, a rich media editing platform used by major media companies including Discovery Channel, MSN, Yahoo!, Scripps Networks and National Geographic. Brian has been deeply involved in multimedia technologies for the past 15 years. He has been a featured speaker at Flash Forward, NAB Xstream and the Society of News Design discussing the benefits of intelligent template-based rich media technologies. Brian is also featured in the book Brand Driven: The route to Integrated Branding through Great Leadership. Brian is a former MSNBC.com Senior Interactive Producer responsible for interactive content, broadband and ITV strategies on MSNBC.com. Prior to MSNBC.com, Brian spent 3 years at Microsoft as Program Manager creating multimedia programming and developing the small business channel on MSN. Brian is a graduate of Brown University.
Kip McClanahan, Founder, CEO, ON Networks - Kip McClanahans career spans nea rly twenty years across the security, networking, communications and software industries. Kip has served as both CEO and board member to public and private companies leading all functional areas including strategy, operations, product, sales and marketing, as well as M&A deal structuring.Working in the networking, security and software industries, he has demonstrated a consistent pattern of creating shareholder value: each of the past three Austin-based companies he has led has experienced a successful IPO or M&A transaction, returning nearly $800 million in gains to shareholders. Most recently, Mr. McClanahan founded ON Networks, an Austin, Texas-based new media company optimized around the current disruption in the media and advertising industries. Prior to that, Mr. McClanahan ran 3Coms Security Division after 3Coms acquisition of TippingPoint Technologies, which was purchased by 3Com in early 2005 for approximately $430 million dollars. Prior to joining TippingPoint Technologies as CEO, Kip was at Motive, Inc., where he served as President and oversaw a broad range of business operations including product strategy after Motive acquired BroadJump. Mr. McClanahan was Founder, President and CEO of BroadJump, Inc., a privately held broadband software company based in Austin, Texas. Prior to founding BroadJump, Mr. McClanahan was a part of management at NetSpeed, a DSL broadband equipment company which was acquired by Cisco Systems in 1998. Mr. McClanahan's career also includes engineering and managerial roles at Motorola, Thomas-Conrad, BMC Software and Dell Computer. Mr. McClanahan graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelors degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1992. He is married with two children and is a supporter of the Austin Film Society, Austin Childrens Hospital, and The University of Texas, Longhorn Athletics and has been a member of the Engineering Foundation Advisory Council since 2002.
