Mobile TV & Video: The Establishment of a Platform: Content, Distribution & Commerce
To fully appreciate and understand the parameters and momentum behind the move to broadband and video on mobile platforms, it is critical to have a grasp of the technology and the devices which drive the system and define how the consumer will be able to experience mobile video, film and TV. In this session, we bring together a group of knowledgeable executives in the mobile technology, content and advertising space, all members of companies who are playing a formative role in the evolution of the mobile broadband universe. The explosion of content on mobile is simply a reflection of how great the enabling technologies and the networks are and there is no question that with the advancements being made on all fronts, the ability for the consumer to appreciate and experience high quality mobile is not in question.

Ray DeRenzo, Vice President of Business Development, MobiTV: As Vice President of Business Development, Ray DeRenzo is charged with driving global growth for MobiTV. DeRenzo works with media companies, TV broadcasters, wireless carriers and enabling third parties such as device manufacturers and system integrators, to drive adoption of MobiTV. Prior to MobiTV, DeRenzo was Vice President of Business and Market Development for Telephia, where he focused on European market entry for this leading provider of syndicated competitive performance information and wireless consulting services. Previously, DeRenzo was Chief Marketing Officer at Vodafone, where he was responsible for all aspects of product management, development, sales and support of Vodafone’s Global Service Delivery Platform. Prior to Vodafone, DeRenzo focused on new product development for AirTouch Communications, a developer of new voice and data services. DeRenzo began his career at Pacific Bell/Pacific Telesis, where he spent nearly 18 years in a variety of roles. He was a founding member of the team at Pacific Bell Mobile Services and also held roles in Product Management, Business Development, Strategy and Planning. DeRenzo holds a Bachelor’s degree in Regional Planning from California State University (San Francisco) and a Masters in Business Administration from St. Mary’s College.

Joseph A. Cantwell, Vice President of Marketing, Advanced Services, Starz Entertainment - Cantwell is responsible for overall marketing, product management, and subscriber growth for Starz Entertainment’s broadband-delivered subscription movie download service and advanced distribution vehicles, such as Vongo. Vongo is the new, award-winning premium television subscription-based on-demand movie download service. Prior to joining Starz Entertainment, Cantwell, spent four years with America Online (AOL) in Dulles, Va. where he served in several senior roles in the company’s interactive television and broadband divisions. During his tenure with AOL he managed the company’s first prime-time interactive broadcast television services, helped launch and manage the successful cable VOD service “AOL Music On Demand” and was a founding member of the senior management team for AOL Broadband. Prior to that, Cantwell spent a decade at Bravo Networks, where he last was executive vice president, new media from 1999-2000. He was a pioneer in the use of broadband for delivery of film and film-related content, producing the first-ever release of a feature-length film exclusively via the high-speed platform for The Independent Film Channel. Cantwell holds a Bachelor’s degree from Barry University in Miami, Florida and a MBA from the University of Chicago. He resides in the LoDo neighborhood in Denver.

Jason Rubinstein, Senior Director, Entertainment, Mobile Devices business, Motorola, Inc. - Jason Rubinstein is responsible for bringing to market rich consumer experiences in mobile entertainment. He works with industry partners, developers and operators to deliver enhanced video and gaming solutions for the mobile device. Before joining Motorola, he served as General Manager for Ubi Soft Entertainment and was Vice President and General Manger of the music division at Riffage.com. Jason managed Intel's games and music industry market development and technology initiatives and held posts at Total Entertainment Network, DreamWorks Interactive and Sierra On-Line/The Imagination Network. Prior to that, he held production and marketing titles with CBS Records and Warner Music Group.



David Thompson,
Content Acquisition Manger, Music and Video/ Mobile TV, Sony Ericsson: David joined Sony Ericsson in May 2005 and is responsible for Video/Mobile TV content acquisition within the Content Alliances team. David joined Sony Ericsson from the operator "3" where he from their start in Sweden has been working as Content Manager, responsible for creating, negotiating and implementing many of their most successful and innovative service and content offerings predominantly in the areas of video streaming and download. Prior to that assignment, David was for over 15 year active in the area of commercial television and broadcasting, working in the US and Sweden with channels and production companies such as TV4, TV 3, SVT, STRIX, MTV, Jarowskij och Nordisk Film, and internationally with companies such as Egmont, Endemol and VH1. His experience in these areas and his wide network within the broadcasting business will bring valuable knowledge to Sony Ericsson in the implementation and acquisition of consumer oriented entertainment services going forward.

Daniel Tibbets, Executive Vice President, Studios, GoTV Networks: Daniel Tibbets brings substantial traditional and new media experience in the entertainment field to GoTV. Prior to joining GoTV, Tibbets spent 16 years at the vortex of the entertainment industry and has held senior executive roles in production and development for companies such as CBS Enterprises, Fireworks Television, Inc., Papazian-Hirsch Entertainment and Twentieth Television. At Twentieth Television, Tibbets ran FOXLAB, Inc. where he co-created and developed the first ever mobisode. In addition, Tibbets executive produced the first two original content mobisodes Love and Hate and Sunset Hotel, which launched in February 2005. Tibbets also developed the first convergence program to air on broadcast television at FOXLAB. In addition to his work at Twentieth Television, Tibbets is credited with the development and sale of the HBO series ROME from his work at Papazian-Hirsch. Tibbets graduated from Arizona State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing with an emphasis in International marketing and business.

Edward Skolarus, Vice President, Business Operations, Fox Reality: Edward Skolarus serves as Vice President, Business Operations for Fox Reality where he oversees business development and emerging media applications for the year-old service. He likewise manages Fox Reality’s program licensing and content ventures for on-air and other platforms, together with Fox Networks Group support teams. Since joining Fox Reality in January of 2006, he has acquired and launched many top reality programs for on-air and digital media platforms. He also helped launch Fantasy Reality Challenge, an on-line fantasy game for reality television fans and initiated Fox Networks Group’s first interactive viewer experience, utilizing Fox Reality’s daily "Reality Remix." Viewers can use their cell phones to answer questions, participate in polls and other features in real-time synchronization with the series. Skolarus also launched "Reality Remix" podcasts, available through www.foxreality.com, www.itunes.com and www.yahoo.com. Mr. Skolarus joins Fox Reality from GoldPocket Interactive Inc., where he served as division Senior Vice President responsible for distribution, sales and marketing. During his five year tenure with GoldPocket, Mr. Skolarus branded and launched the company within the entertainment market, significantly grew cable/satellite/mobile distribution, assisted in acquiring digital media and mobile companies and launched interactive and mobile applications for leading broadcasters such as CBS, HSN, NBC, GSN, FOX, NFL and DirecTV. Prior to GoldPocket, Mr. Skolarus served as COO and VP of Marketing at BadaBiz Inc., an Internet content collaboration company specializing in Digital Rights Management and security for content distribution. Prior to BadaBiz, Mr. Skolarus was the CEO and co-founder of RenderView Software Inc., a leading digital content collaboration and communication company. Skolarus began his career as a lead systems architect and software engineer for Ford and Chrysler motors developing large-scale enterprise software systems. Originally from Michigan, Skolarus graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering from Eastern Michigan University. In addition, did post-graduate studies at Wayne State University in medicine.
