Mobile Gaming Experience - the Next Generation in Games, Devices and the Coming High Speed Delivery of Content
As the portable games industry evolves into a global mobile gaming experience, the confluence of enhanced handsets and platforms, the increasing broadband delivery infrastructure and the acceptance on the part of the consumer, presents a mobile universe of untold possibilities. To this point, the games industry has only just begin to explore the cutting edge technologies in developing mobile games and device sophistication it is just emerging from its first generation. With that in mind, one can only imagine what the world of mobile games as a consumer experience will look like in two or three years. Mobile gaming and the portable device is the killer combination in the making and in this session, we begin to explore what that future world will look like.

Leo Jun, Senior Manager of Games, HELIO - Leo Jun is the senior manager of game s for HELIO, a new mobile brand built for young, passionate consumers that want a fully-loaded wireless experience. In this role, Leo is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of the company's innovative games service as well as communication with mobile game publishers. Prior to joining HELIO, Leo worked for SK Telecom in Korea in a number of positions including senior manager in SK Telecom's global division where he planned and coordinated carrier-level partnerships and managed EVDO working groups as well as coordinated ring-back-tone and music on demand business development for Verizon Wireless. As a manager in SK Telecom's portal division, Leo was wholly responsible for the company's wireless community service operations and wireless information service operations across sports, news and directory services. Prior to joining SK Telecom, Leo was a director of the content center for CHV.net, where he supervised the site's content production center and worked with top game publishers including Namco, Jalexo, Squaresoft and SEGA. Leo received his B.S. in business administration and MIS from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul, Korea.
Travis Boatman, VP Worldwide Studios, Mobile for Electronic Arts: As Vice President Worldwide Studios, Mobile for Electronic Arts, Travis Boatman oversees the studio production of next generation mobile titles. Bringing his experience from the console and PC realm to JAMDAT in 2001, Travis has shipped over 100 mobile games worldwide. A native of Silicon Valley, Travis has been involved with the video game industry, in both a publishing and developer capacity, for over fifteen years.
Mike Yuen, Senior Director, Gaming Group, QUALCOMM Internet Services, QUA LCOMM Incorporated - Mike Yuen is senior director, Gaming Group, for QUALCOMM Internet Services. QIS is the QUALCOMM division responsible for the BREW® solution, a family of offerings that includes uiOne, deliveryOne, QPoint and BREW Signature Solutions as well as the QChat push-to-talk solution. QIS is chartered with driving the development of next-generation wireless data applications, technologies and value-added services. Mike manages the team chartered with defining and driving the BREW gaming experience as well as ensuring the platform is profitable and viable for game publishers and developers. Prior to founding the Gaming Group in 2005, Mike led the BREW Developer Relations team that is responsible for signing up companies such as Microsoft, AOL, Yahoo!, Disney, Sony, and EA to deliver wireless consumer and business applications to users around the world. He helped create a virtuous mobile content ecosystem resulting in more than $1 billion being paid out to BREW publishers and developers as of March 2007. Mike is a frequent speaker at gaming and wireless industry events and is an evangelist of cross platform game design, wireless digital distribution, and the converged computing and entertainment device for emerging markets (the GEC or "Good Enough Console"). He previously held positions with Accolade, GTE Interactive Media, Hammerhead Entertainment, AMD and NCR, and holds an MBA from UC Davis and a BA in computer science from UCSD. Mike is a member of the advisory boards for Game Developers Conference (GDC) Mobile and Floodgate Entertainment. He previously served on the board of directors of the San Diego Software Industry Council (SDSIC) and was a member of the founding board of directors for Mobile Entertainment Forum (MEF) Americas.
Stephen McDonnell, Market Development Manager, Games, Ecosystems and Market Development, Mobile Devices business unit, Motorola, Inc. - Stephen McDonnell brings more than a decade of industry experience to his role as Market Development Manager of Games for Motorolas Ecosystems and Market Development group. In this capacity, Mr. McDonnell establishes relationships with leading industry developers and provides the tools and resources they need to create the next generation of mobile gaming experiences for Motorola products. Most recently, Mr. McDonnell held executive positions in software market development for Palm, serving both the United States and Australia markets. Prior to that, he worked in Australia for Apple and FileMaker. Stephen McDonnell holds a bachelors degree from the University of Sydney.
MATTHEW BELLOWS, General Manager, Floodgate Entertainment: Matthew is res ponsible for the operations, sales and marketing of Floodgate Entertainment, a top mobile games developer based in Boston, Massachusetts. Before joining Floodgate, Matthew led Gamespots mobile entertainment initiatives, including the development of a mobile games distribution service called PlayNow. He arrived at Gamespot (a division of CNET Networks) through that company's acquisition of Wireless Gaming Review. Matthew was the co-founder, editor and publisher of WGR (WGamer.com), the leading publication for mobile entertainment consumers. While leading WGR, he grew revenues to $1.5 million, distributed content through Verizon, Sprint, AT&T and Ziff-Davis, and formed profitable relationships with industry leaders like Qualcomm, Nokia, JAMDAT and others. Before starting Wireless Gaming Review, Matthew managed the team responsible for 4,000 advertising contracts that drove $30 million in annual revenue for Engage, Inc. Bellows received his MBA with high honors from the Olin School of Management at Babson College.
Key Sar, Vice President of Business Development and Strategy, SkyZone Entertain ment - Prior to joining SkyZones management team, Sar headed up the Developer Relations program that attracted innovative software developers to showcase their products on Verizon Wireless distribution channels reaching tens of millions of customers. In addition to managing partner relationships and trade show participation for the Content Programming team, Sar developed and instituted the Content Rights Clearance process for content advertising, which significantly improved cross-functional support operations and product profitability.
Yuanzhe (Michael) Cai, Director, Broadband & Gaming, Parks Associates: Michael Ca i studies developments in broadband services, broadband technologies such as FTTx and broadband wireless, electronic gaming, and other value-added services. He also follows emerging digital home technologies such as networked storage and whole-home entertainment solutions. Michael has written reports on the Chinese telecom market, broadband wireless, broadband services, storage, entertainment middleware, and gaming. Michael has presented his research in numerous industry events including CES, Supercomm, CONNECTIONS, and E3. Michael earned his MBA with a 4.0 GPA from Baylor University in May 2002. He also holds an MA in leadership from Landegg International University, Switzerland, and a BA in economics from Shandong University, P. R. China.
