Track II: Technology Redefining the Future
Contextual Media, Search, Ad Serving Networks & Advertising Applications in Broadband and Mobile In this session we will address the relationship of advertising and commerce in the more cutting edge media platforms of Search, Video Search and social media. A revolution in advertising and commerce is on its way, and the fully interactive and immersion based platform enabled by broadband gateway concepts such as search and social networks are proving to be the most inherently targeted vehicles for interacting with the consumer. We are at the first stages of not only understanding how the technology is impacting the consumer, we are likewise at the first stages of what the technology looks like and how it will function. Kevin Lee, Executive Chairman, Didit: From co-founding the company in 1996 to his election as SEMPO Chair, the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization, in 2005, Kevin Lee has shaped both Didit and the entire search engine marketing field. As author of the seminal work on search strategy, Search Engine Secrets; a weekly columnist for the search engine news source ClickZ; and a frequent contributor to Catalog Age, Kevin's influential views on Search Engine Marketing have been read by thousands. He is regularly quoted by the Wall St. Journal, Business Week, The New York Times, CNET, USA Today, San Jose Mercury News, DMNews and Catalog Age, and lectures widely throughout the United States. Kevin sits on the Search Council for the Association for Interactive Marketing and the IAB Search Committee. He came to search marketing from a successful career in the traditional advertising world. After receiving his MBA from Yale School of Management, Kevin held positions at McCann-Erickson, and then at JWT, before co-founding Didit with President David Pasternack. He enjoys cycling and skiing on the weekends and lives with his family in Manhattan.
Carlton H. Baab, President and CEO, TigerLogic: Carlton H. Baab joined Raining Data (now TigerLogic) as the President and Chief Executive Officer in August, 2001. Since May 2001, Mr. Baab has served as a Managing Principal of Astoria Capital Management, a significant stockholder of the Company. From January 2000 to April 2001, Mr. Baab was the Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Certive, Inc., a web-based small-business services firm. From January 1999 to January 2000, Mr. Baab was the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of RemarQ Communities, Inc., a web-based provider of discussion group services. Mr. Baab served as Chief Financial Officer of the CKS Group, a marketing communications company, from February 1994 through December 1998. In addition, Mr. Baab served as an Executive Vice President and the Secretary of CKS from August 1995 through December 1998 and as CKS's Chief Operating Officer from August 1995 through May 1996. Mr. Baab also serves on the Board of Directors of Momentum Business Applications, Inc. (Nasdaq: MMTM) which provides research and development expertise on a contract basis to PeopleSoft (Nasdaq: PSFT), which distributes computer software for enterprise wide resource planning. Mr. Baab holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, with honors, from the University of Southern California and an M.B.A. from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.
Joe Pulizzi, founder & Chief Content Officer, Junta42: Formerly the vice president of Penton Custom Media, Inc., a global business-to-business marketing solutions provider, Joe Pulizzi is the founder of the online media and marketing community Junta42 (www.junta42.com) and business pairing service Junta42 Match (www.junta42.com/match). Joe is also president of custom media consulting company Z Squared Media. Joe has worked with global Fortune 1000 marketers from a variety of vertical and horizontal sectors, becoming one of the leading experts in content marketing and custom publishing strategy. Awarded Top Mover and Shaker Under 35 by Cleveland20/30, Joe is a board member of the Custom Publishing Council, former chairperson of American Business Medias Custom Media Committee, and an editorial advisory board member for B2B Marketing Trends. His background includes employment at two dot-com companies and teaching public speaking and communication theory for Penn State University, where he received a Master of Arts in Communications (MAC). Joe also writes one of the leading content marketing blogs on the Internet, The Content Marketing Revolution, the official blog of Junta42 (blog.junta42.com). His book Get Content. Get Customers. will be published this spring.
Robert Bergquist is CEO and President of Widemile. In his 25 year career running and counseling companies, Robert has provided senior leadership, strategic management, sales, and financial and legal services to a variety of ventures with a focus in the broadcasting, marketing, advertising and software industries. In previous positions, Robert worked with DealPlanner, Deutsche Bank, Microsoft, The Ackerley Group, and Fisher Communications, among other companies. Active in the local technology community, Robert has served on Washington Technology Alliance committees and as past Chair and President of the MIT Enterprise Forum of the Northwest. He also speaks regularly at interactive advertising industry forums and writes often about the need for greater accountability in marketing and how advertisers can maximize their returns using advanced technology. Robert holds a B.A. from Colorado College and the London School of Economics and a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law.
G D Ramkumar (Ram) is co-founder and CTO of SnapTell. Ram has over 15 years of R&D experience developing scalable software systems. Most recently, Ram was a Senior Software Architect in the CTO Office of McDATA responsible for the company's overall technical software strategy. He joined McDATA through the successful acquisition of startup Sanera Systems, where he led the system software architecture. Sanera developed a market leading high end Fibre Channel Director for the SAN market that became McDATA's flagship product and is now deployed at the heart of thousands of data centers world wide. Prior to Sanera Systems, Ram held senior roles at Hitachi Research Labs and Morgan Stanley where he developed innovative technologies in data mining and business intelligence. He has more than nine patents pending, over fifteen research papers at international journals and conferences, and two recent IETF RFC documents to his credit. He has a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science at Stanford University specializing in the areas of Geometric Algorithms and Robotics. Ram holds a President of India gold medal for the best undergraduate academic record at Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai.
Dr. David Saad, founder, Chairman, and CEO,Clupedia: Dr. Saad is responsible for the overall direction and management of the company. He has invested over $2 million to date in Clupedia. He is a seasoned veteran in the software industry with over 25 years of experience in marketing, sales, and R&D making him uniquely positioned to lead Clupedia. After 5 years of extensive study and research, he became one of the leading authorities in referral automation and viral marketing. One of the products that he developed was nominated for the Innovative Product of the Year Award by the American Electronics Association (AeA). Also, Dr. Saad won the Most Promising Investment Award during the 2006 Fast Pitch competition sponsored by Tech Coast Angels. Dr. Saad started his career as a system programmer, became a data base consultant, and did some public speaking covering topics such as relational databases, data modeling, methodologies for logical data base design, software engineering disciplines, etc. Prior to founding Clupedia, Dr. Saad founded Braintec in 1986. He developed ProofReader - a suite of utilities such as spelling checker, grammar checker, style checker, dictionary, and a thesaurus. ProofReader included a very sophisticated technology based on computational linguistics, heuristics, and artificial intelligence. Subsequently, Braintec focused on the fast growing and lucrative IT consulting industry and became the largest Unix engineering firm in Southern California with customers such as AT&T, IBM, Sun, NCR, and Teradata. Braintec was sold to Technisource an IT firm listed on NASDAQ which was taken private by IntelliMark Holdings. Prior to Braintec, Dr. Saad worked for Mathematica Products Group a software division of Martin Marietta where he was instrumental in establishing the Canadian division. Dr. Saad won several awards for his software sales achievements including the ICP award. Prior to Mathematica, Dr. Saad worked as a programmer and data base consultant for IST - a consulting and service Bureau based in Montreal, Canada. Dr. Saad earned a PhD in Computer Science with high honors from University of Paris, an M.Sc.A. Cum Laude in Computer Science from McGill University, a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Concordia University, and a D.E.U.G. in Mathematics & Economics from University of Paris. Dr. Saad speaks four languages. He had a very successful athletic career in Judo. He participated in the European Championships, World Championships, Pan American Games, and the Olympic games. Dr. Saad was also the executive producer of a Rhythm & Blues (R&B) album by a female group called Foxx Empire.
