Web 2.0 Infrastructure: The Enabling Tools, Applications and Services Over the past four years, Web 2.0 computing has revolutionized the consumer technology experience. Web 2.0 is now the only way in which many consumers experience broadband and mobile. As the computer interface transitions into a fully three dimensional content and communications experience representing not only how we see information on the screen, but actually influencing how we think and process that data and those ideas we will more and more appreciate the importance of what has changed in the past few years. Web 2.0 represents a relationship engine and a linkage of ideas, images, information and applications. In this session, we will examine how everything from tools such as search to the networks behind the applications make Web 2.0 possible. Leon Levitt, Vice President of Digital Media, Cox Newspapers: As Vice President of Digital Media for Cox Newspapers, Leon is charged with leading all digital media efforts, helping to craft a vision/strategy that is aligned with newspaper activities, and develop a long-term sustainable business model. Leon recently spearheaded Coxs participation in the Yahoo! consortium to share content, advertising and technology. Under Leons leadership, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution restructured its business model to put digital operations on an equal footing with print. The innovative move has received numerous industry accolades. Prior to his current role, Leon served as executive vice president of digital media for The Arizona Republic. He joined the newspaper as circulation director in September 1996 and was promoted to vice president of circulation in September 1999. Prior to joining The Arizona Republic, Leon was vice president of circulation for the Newspaper Association of America (NAA), where his responsibilities included supporting newspaper executives from around the country and helping to position circulation as an integral part of the total newspaper marketing environment. Leon began his newspaper career at the Las Vegas Review-Journal in 1979 and held the positions of circulation promotion manager, circulation sales manager, and assistant circulation director. Leon graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies, with an emphasis in journalism. He previously served on The Fiesta Bowl Board of Directors. He is also involved in various national newspaper organizations and boards. Peter Coppola Vice President, Product Management, Limelight: Peter has held executive roles in product management, marketing and engineering with numerous technology companies. He has over 25 years experience in embedded technologies, networking, enterprise software and digital media. Prior to joining Limelight, Peter was president and co-founder of Unwired Vehicles, a start-up company developing mobile applications and technology specifically for the emerging car computing market. Peter has also served as VP of Marketing, VP of Engineering, and VP of Product Marketing at software companies; DoubleWide Software and Akonix Systems. Peters past experience includes management, engineering and marketing positions at NetManage, AGE Logic, Pacer Software, Prime Computer and Stratus Computer. He holds a Computer Science Engineering degree from Northeastern University
Carnet Williams, CEO and co-Founder, Sprout: Carnet is co-founder and CEO of Sprout, a rich interactive content authoring platform for building and publishing Flash widgets, social ads, or any Flash files without programming. Prior to Sprout, Carnet built and sold several Facebook applications, founded ChipIn a widget fundraising service, was a professional snowboarder, and ran International Trade Policy for The Nature Conservancy. Carnet has over a decade of experience in the high-tech and internet industries and was the Director of Business Development at TurboLinx, a Linux OS and enterprise solutions startup, and co-founded NetCorps, a nonprofit technology assistance organization in Oregon. Carnet graduated from the University of Berkeley and has a law degree from the University of Oregon School of Law.
Alex Blum, CEO, KickApps - Alex Blum is a seasoned senior executive who brings deep leadership experience from roles at global and emerging technology companies. He is responsible for providing the strategic leadership that guides the companys business, product development, marketing and sales strategy.Before joining KickApps, Alex was President and COO of JumpTV, a leading Multi-Cultural Internet Protocol Television Network. Alex has held several executive positions during his eight year tenure at AOL. Most recently he was responsible for re-launching the AOL Portal and delivering an entire suite of web-based applications including: AOL's Video Player, Video Portal, Streaming Video advertising platform, AIM and AIMpages social networking service. Prior to that, he was General Manager of AOLTV, where he established strategic relationships with DirecTV, TiVo, OpenTV and Philips Electronics. Alex has an MBA from the Albers School of Business at Seattle University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado.
Krish Menon, Chief Technology Officer, The NewsMarket, Inc.: Krish leads and manages technology of The NewsMarket's award-winning platform. Krish has a track record in a broad variety of web-based technologies and has led strategy, research and development efforts at The NewsMarket since inception. Krish has established the entire technology and support team in the US and offshore and has been involved with developing The NewsMarkets technology platform for more than five years, starting first as an outside consultant before joining the team in the 2002. He brings a deep understanding of web-based technologies and experience of delivering cutting-edge business applications and products to the global marketplace. He joined The NewsMarket from Zensar Technologies, the leading software solutions provider in India, where he was a web architect and senior project manager. At Zensar Technologies, Krish designed, managed and led multiple software projects for global customers such as Microsoft and Fujitsu. Krish holds a Bachelor of Engineering with honors in Electronics from Bombay University, India.
Tom McGovern, Co-Founder and CEO, Snap.com: In 1999, Tom founded a successful e-commerce company with Bill Gross and Idealab, which was acquired by PETsMART, Inc. a leading multi-channel marketer. Tom served as President and CEO of the division of PETsMART managing the Internet and catalog businesses. Tom returned to Idealab in 2003 to explore new internet marketing and search opportunities. Prior to that, Tom was Senior Vice President with Warner Bros. and a management consultant. He started his career in 1983 at Price Waterhouse. Tom is a graduate of the Harvard Business School and earned his B.S. from the University of Colorado.
John Ham is the Founder of Ustream.TV, Inc. where he oversees strategy and operations. At Ustream, John focuses his time on business development in the music and entertainment industries. Having been involved in the consumer Internet space for almost a decade, Johns mantra is the user comes first. Specializing in user-experience, product lifecycle, and operations management, John focuses on delivering the best end-user experience. He holds dual-degrees in engineering and business from the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Reena A Jadhav, Founder and CEO, Nuresume: Reena is a serial entrepreneur with a passion for game-changing, value-creating ideas. She recently founded NUresume.com for college students to create a free online multi-media resume and get listed in the first national student resume directory. College students can market their portfolios online, post Position Wanted and connect with companies, mentors and resources. They have access to complete social networking tools such as Chat, clubs, videos, blogs, events and more for career networking. NUresume is completely free for students and employers. Prior to NUresume, Ms. Jadhav served as Chief Marketing Officer at Conduit, the leading platform for building communities via toolbars. Before Conduit she co-founded and served as Chief Marketing Officer at JobFlash, an award-winning service for automating hourly recruiting which was acquired by marked leader Taleo and also co-founded and ran product marketing at Done.com, an award-winning wireless messaging service. In addition, she worked at Oracle Corporation and PriceWaterhouseCoopers. Reena graduated summa cum laude from Wharton Business School with a Bachelors in Science and earned her MBA from Harvard Business School. She is a well known moderator and panelist on topics covering Social Networking Platforms. She was recently awarded honoree San Jose Business Journal's Women Executive of the Year in Marketing.
