Helfstein, Executive Director, Media & Internet Equity Research, Oppenheimer & Co., Moderator Cliff Marks, President, Sales & CMO, National CineMedia: Mr. Marks was appointed National CineMedia LLCs President of Sales and Chief Marketing Officer in May 2005. He has been an advertising, marketing and sales professional for 23 years. Prior to his current position, Mr. Marks served as president of sales and marketing with Regal Entertainment Groups media subsidiary, Regal CineMedia Corporation, from May 2002 to May 2005. Before joining Regal CineMedia, Mr. Marks was a senior vice president at ESPN/ABC Sports where he oversaw its advertising sales organization from 1998 to May 2002. Mr. Marks joined ESPN in April 1989 and served in a variety of sales and marketing positions throughout his tenure. From 1986 through 1989, Mr. Marks was an advertising sales executive at The Nashville Network (now known as Spike TV). He began his career at the New York advertising agencies Young & Rubicam (1985-86) and BBDO (1983-85). David Brewster, Senior Vice President, North American Music & Messaging Services, PlayNetwork. Brewster joined PlayNetwork in July 2005 after a period of consulting work, and was appointed Senior Vice President, Promotional Services in November 2005 and Senior Vice President, Marketing and Creative Services in August 2007. From 1997 to 2004, David directed the music and entertainment business at Starbucks Coffee Company. He helped craft a seamless customer experience with the Starbucks brand through music, at multiple touch points including in-store programming, custom compilation CDs, targeted sponsorships and through the retail operations of Hear Music stores and website. Brewster understands the methodology, effects and business results of national brand enhancement through the power of music and entertainment. David's previous career was in trade book publishing, with roles in editorial, sales and marketing for Houghton Mifflin Co. and PenguinPutnam (formerly Viking Penguin). He has a degree in English from Reed College.
Mariana Danilovic, EVP, Business Development, NTN Buzztime, Inc.: As the EVP, Business Development for NTN Buzztime, Inc., Ms. Danilovic leads growth initiatives for the company. Prior to this position, she was the VP Business Development for MediaZone, a NASPERS owned broadband video company where she led content acquisition, programming, and business development. As the Founder and Managing Director, Hollywood Portfolio, LLC Mariana was a developer, owner and operator of several digital media companies and serves on the Board of Advisors of Choose Interactive, VoiceIndigo, CozmoMedia, and Pixsy. Ms. Danilovic also founded and directed the Digital Media Incubator at KPMG LLP. This group developed numerous entertainment and digital media companies, including MarketWire, Digital Entertainment Network (DEN), Tonos, Thirsty, E-Poll, Enband, FirstLook.com, mySMART, QSTV, and WalkThisWay. Prior to joining KPMG, Ms. Danilovic headed business development for Peter Gubers Mandalay Entertainment. She was part of the management team for the $60 million media fund at Sony Pictures Entertainment that made investments in media companies worldwide. She worked with Michael Milkens Knowledge Exchange and for the Twentieth Century Fox International Television Group. She served on the Board of Directors of the VIC Network, Tim Drapers Zone Club, California Culture Net, and was a member of former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan's Digital Coast Roundtable. Mariana earned a Masters in Business Administration from the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA, and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from University of California, San Diego.
Brian Marin, CEO, retail entertainment design: Brian Marin, Chief Executive Officer With more than 15 years experience in the entertainment industry, Brian Marin brings to Retail Entertainment Design (RED) an astute understanding of retail environments, display and audio technologies. His expertise in all aspects of music, video, advertising, and sound system design and implementation guarantees the creation of highly customized and unparalleled solutions to meet the needs of clientele. Previously an executive with DMX MUSIC and ScreenPlay, Inc., Brian received a BA in Communications from Washington State University, with an emphasis in media and advertising.
Mike DiFranza, President & General Manager, Captivate Network: Mike DiFranza serves as founder, president and general manager of Captivate Network, the national news and entertainment network that delivers quality programming and advertising to a highly desirable and targeted audience during the workday. A pioneer in the alternative media advertising market, Mike realized that elevators offered a unique environment in which advertisers and content providers could reach an important and captive audience with their messages. With this in mind, Mike set out to change the way consumers interact with media, giving advertisers a new medium to reach their target audience. By leveraging his more than 20 years of media, marketing and sales experience, Mike pioneered his vision into reality with the creation of Captivate Network. As an advertising industry thought leader, Mike has helped to guide the overall development and evolution of the explosive alternative media space. Mike has led Captivate through the companys growth and expansion, as well as the successful acquisition by Gannett, Co. Inc. Under his leadership, Captivate is known today for its exceptional recall rate, consistent viewership and quality programming. Prior to founding Captivate, Mike served as the director for the Eastern U.S., Canadian and Latin American Business Units for Mentor Graphics. In that role, he supported the development of underlying technology for the media and telecommunications industries. Prior to his position with Mentor, Mike held various management positions with Metheus Corporation and GCA Corporation. In recognition of Mike's accomplishments and leadership in the media industry, Captivate has received the SBANE Innovation Award, the MIMC Leadership Award, and Mike was a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards twice. Boston Business Forward also named him to its Forward 40. He has appeared on national news programs, including CNN, Marketwatch and MSNBC's The News with Brian Williams. Additionally, Mike is a recognized expert in the media industry and has spoken at events such as the Canadian Digital Signage Summit; Strategic Research Institutes Marketing to the Mass Affluent; Forecast 2006; Maximizing Media Conference (Toronto); The Advertising Research Foundations Advertising: Whats Next? Conference; Deutsche Bank Media Conference; MIT Enterprise Forum; and SBANE (Smaller Business Association of New England) Awards Ceremony. Mike also serves on the Board of Directors of The Outdoor Advertising Association of America. Mike holds a B.S. degree in Engineering and Computer Science from Northeastern University and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School's Program for Management Development. Mike and his wife, Debbie, have two children, Ashley and Zachary.
Jason S. Helfstein, Executive Director, Media & Internet Equity Research, Oppenheimer & Co.: Jason Helfstein is an Executive Director and analyst at Oppenheimer who has covered the broadcasting and media sectors since 1997. He joined CIBC World Markets in 2002 while earlier he worked at Salomon Smith Barney in the Institutional Investor ranked broadcasting and cable research group with a focus on television, radio and outdoor companies. In 2002 and 2003 he was recognized as a member of the "Next Generation: Best Up & Comers" category in the Institutional Investor poll. Mr. Helfstein began his career in equity research at Schroder Wertheim. He holds dual BA degrees from Syracuse University.
