Daphne Kwon co-founded Expo Communications, the first and largest video-bas ed product research network, specifically tailored for the consumer in control. The programming service, launched November 2004, is available on broadband at expotv.com and in over 20 million VOD homes through partnerships with Comcast, Time Warner, Charter, Verizon, and other cable operators. Prior to founding Expo, Ms. Kwon served as Chief Financial Officer and a founding employee of Oxygen Media, overseeing all financial aspects of Oxygens operations. Ms. Kwon developed the companys annual budget, long range plan and prepared communications to the Board of Directors. She participated in various business development and planning initiatives including authoring the initial business plan, structuring over $500 mil of financing, negotiating and integrating new media acquisitions, and securing distribution for the cable network. In addition, Ms. Kwon oversaw key operating departments including technology, human resources, and facilities. Prior to joining Oxygen, Ms. Kwon worked for the President of the Disney/ABC Cable Networks to develop new business initiatives, which resulted in the successful launches of Toon Disney, SoapNet, and the Lifetime Movie Network. She was also a member of the financial management committees representing Disneys interests in the A&E Networks, Lifetime Networks and E! Television. Prior to moving to ABC, Ms Kwon worked in Disneys Corporate Strategic Planning Department, where she was responsible for business planning of the media companys television, film and recorded music divisions. Ms. Kwon has also worked in investment banking within Morgan Stanleys Corporate Restructuring Group. She holds business degrees from Harvard Business School and the University of Michigan. She was named as both a top 100 Women in Cable and Most Influential Minorities in Cable by Cable World magazine, and selected as a Top 40 under 40 business leader by Crains New York Business magazine. She is a member of WICT, NAMIC, and CTAM.
FERNANDO ESPUELAS, Chairman and CEO, Voy, LLC: Fernando Espuelas is a recognized advocate of empowering and connecting Latinos throughout the world. As the founder and CEO of Voy, Espuelas has created a culturally relevant community that entertains and empowers todays new generation of Latinos and those discovering Latin culture. Voy, a digital media company, has established a unique content-creation, discovery and distribution platform that is rapidly becoming the place to find, share and enjoy the best of Latin entertainment and culture. Espuelas previously founded and was chairman and CEO of StarMedia Network, a pioneering multi-platform media company for Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking audiences worldwide. At StarMedia, he built the first online network to transcend national barriers, becoming the most recognized and first pan-Latin new media brand in Latin America and the United States, eventually serving 25 million people worldwide. Initially using only his personal credit card to start the company, Espuelas went on to raise $500 million dollars for StarMedia in a combination of private and public offerings, including raising the first dollar of venture funding and the first IPO for a Latin Internet company. StarMedias market capitalization reached $3.8 billion dollars. Espuelas visionary leadership has earned him worldwide recognition. Time magazine honored him as one of the Leaders of the Millennium, and he was recognized as a 2000 All-Star business leader by Crains New York Business magazine. The World Economic Forum includes him among its "Global Leaders of Tomorrow," and he was also a recipient of Latin Trade Magazines Bravo award for CEO of the Year. Espuelas is a frequent public speaker throughout the United States, Latin America and Europe. And he has received extensive broadcast, print and online coverage throughout the world. Prior to founding StarMedia Network, Espuelas was the managing director of marketing communications for AT&T Latin America and the Caribbean where he was responsible for conceiving and launching AT&Ts first online service in Latin America. Prior to AT&T, Espuelas held various senior positions at Ogilvy & Mather in both the United States and Latin America. Espuelas also held positions at advertising agencies Lowe & Partners and Young & Rubicams Wunderman Worldwide. He is the author of the book Life in Action, published by Tarcher/Penguin in 2004. Espuelas received a B.A. in history with distinction from Connecticut College.
Ross Cox, Sr. Director of Entertainment of Products, Cartoon Network, Turner Enterta inment: With over 10 years of mobile, interactive television, and broadband experience and more than 15 years traditional media experience, Ross Cox has been on the forefront of product development, interface design, and content creation within the interactive entertainment industry. Cox has held positions with such companies as at&t (formerly SBC), Bluestreak Network, Cox Enterprises, Buena Vista Pictures Distribution, and Source Media's Interactive Channel. Working for these respected companies and independently, Cox has produced innovative interactive products and programming for clients/partners as Bravo, FYI Television, Insight Communications, Microsoft TV, Time Warner Cable, 20th Century Fox, UPN, and Yahoo! Cox currently holds the position of Senior Director of Entertainment Products for Cartoon Network/Adult Swim New Media, where he is responsible for mobile, iTV, iPTV, VOD, and downloadable gaming products. Cartoon Network is a part of Turner Broadcasting Sytem, INC., based in Atlanta, Georgia.
Neil McGinness is Vice President of Entertainment and Comedy for IMG Media, a division of IMG, the world's premier sports, entertainment and media Company. IMG Media produces and distributes over 10,000 hours of sports, documentary, drama, comedy, entertainment, popular factual and children's content annually, over multiple platforms across 200 countries, including award-winning television and radio programming. It also represents the broadcast rights to many of the world's premier sporting events and has the world's biggest sports archive with more than 200,000 hours of footage. McGinness was previously Vice President of National Lampoon and General Manager of National Lampoon Mobile. Prior to National Lampoon, he also served as Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Lorne Michaels' production company, Broadway Video Entertainment, the production company for television shows such as "Saturday Night Live" and "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" as well as motion pictures such as "Wayne's World." McGinness received a Bachelor of Arts in Classics and English from Georgetown University and a Master's Degree from NYU's Institute of Film and Television.
Chris Petrovic, VP, Business Development, Playboy Entertainment Group: Mr. Pet rovic is a new media veteran, having started his career in the Internet marketplace in the late 90s. He has held executive management positions in a variety of corporate settings, from start-ups to publicly traded companies to venture capital firms. Petrovic currently serves as Vice President of Business Development, Digital Media for Playboy Entertainment Group. In this role, he is responsible for business development initiatives all divisions of the Entertainment Group including Playboy Mobile, Playboy Online and Playboy TV. Before joining Playboy, Mr. Petrovic served as Vice President of Business Development for AG Interactive, the new media division of American Greetings. Petrovic oversaw all business development efforts across all three of the divisions business units mobile (both domestic and international), Internet and instant messenger. Petrovic joined AG Interactive from theglobe.com, where he served as Vice President of Strategy and Business Development and was responsible for developing and growing the companys consumer VoIP offering (Voiceglo) as well as its print media business (Computer Games Magazine). Petrovic is a graduate of Columbia University in New York and holds a J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles. He began his new media career as CEO of BannerGreetings.com, an Internet start-up, and from there went on to become COO and General Counsel of Buzztone, a leading viral marketing agency, before joining the venture capital firm Prime Ventures as their VP of Business and Legal Affairs, managing the business development and legal operations of its portfolio companies, including most notably drkoop.com. Petrovic is based in Playboys Los Angeles office.
Toby Rowland, Co-CEO & Co-Founder, King.com: Toby Rowland is the co-CEO an d co-founder of King.com, the worlds largest online skill gaming site. With over 13 years of experience in e-commerce and international marketing, Rowland brings extensive entrepreneurial knowledge to the Internet gaming platform. Before establishing King.com, Rowland developed the global online dating market as vice president of sales and marketing for uDate.com, the successful dating service bought by Barry Dillers InterActive Corporation (IAC) for $150 million. He also co-founded the online health and beauty site clickmango.com, raising millions of dollars in funding and establishing a strong profile for the UK-based company. Since King.coms 2004 inception, Rowland has created more than 40 different online games and built a unique venue where players compete in tournaments of skill to win money. With roughly 40 million games played monthly, this wildly popular Web site has positioned Rowland at the forefront of his sector and as the clear leader in the skill gaming field.
Shergul Arshad, VP, Business Development, StyleFeeder: Shergul is an accomplis hed executive with over 12 years of professional experience in online business development, eCommerce and traditional and non-traditional media. Shergul started his career at traditional advertising agencies, having spent seven years at Young & Rubicam and then Arnold Worldwide. After receiving his M.B.A. from the University of Michigan Business School, Shergul worked at FairMarket in sales and business development. He was instrumental in the sale of FairMarket to eBay, Inc., and he subsequently spent the next 2 years with eBay in California. Shergul was hired away from eBay to run Business Development for Sports Loyalty Systems, where he structured partnerships with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks. Shergul just recently joined one of Boston's hottest Web 2.0 companies, Top10 Media, a company backed by Highland Capital. At Top10 Media, Shergul has primarily focused his efforts on partnerships that grow traffic and memberships for emerging Social Shopping leader, StyleFeeder. Shergul was a featured speaker at the PromoExpo in Chicago while working for eBay, and was a featured speaker at the Los Angeles Dodgers sponsor retreat while with Sports Loyalty Systems. He holds a B.A. from Harvard University, and an M.B.A from the University of Michigan. Originally from Florence, Italy, Shergul currently resides in Lexington, MA with his wife and two kids.
