Dave Scammell, CEO, Sohonet: Dave joined Sohonet in 2001 after leaving Quantel, w here he had been responsible for Strategic Development. He graduated from Brunel University (UK) with a degree in Physics and Electronics, and brings an understanding of engineering issues to the commercial environment of the media production industry. He has considerable international experience, and this has been used to expand Sohonets operation dramatically in the last 4 years. Dave successfully negotiated a Management Buyout of Sohonet in 2003, and Sohonet now has a true worldwide operation, with clients in Australia, New Zealand, Los Angeles, New York, London and mainland Europe. As a profitable, privately owned company Sohonet provides the largest and most flexible solution for secure, high-speed connectivity for the media industry. Sohonet has offices in Sydney, Los Angeles, London and Pinewood Studios.
Dave Cavena is an Engagement Architect with Sun Microsystems, supporting the digital content space for studios, postproduction companies and some dotcoms. Prior to coming to Sun in January of 2006 he was Project Director, Blu-ray Authoring System for Sony Pictures Entertainment New Technologies from February 2004 to January 2006. Preceding this position he was Program Manager for Disneys MovieBeam development and rollout, from January 2002 February 2004. Preceding this Dave was IBMs Digital Cinema lead and Executive Project Manager from the mid-1990s until December 2001, where he led projects at many of the studios in content security, digital dailies and watermarking, and managed the IBM development of the prototype systems launching the WB TV network.
Andy Shenkler, Vice President, Operations, Digital Services, Ascent Media Gr oup: Andy Shenkler oversees operations for AMGs Digital Services group. He has a fifteen year tenure managing global organizations and development efforts with a focus on digital asset management and e-commerce. Prior to AMG, Andy consulted for companies including EMI Music Group, The Walt Disney Company, Ascent Media, Apollo 11 Media, and others, defining and driving execution of digital distribution strategies. As Director of Global Digital Operations & Asset Management for EMI Music Group, he developed the companys digital asset management system and digital archiving standards. He has held information technology management positions at Yahoo Geocities and P&O Nelloyd, and founded two successful companies. He holds a B.S. degree in Management from Pepperdine University.
Feisal Nanji, Sector Resident, Global Media & Entertainment Sector, Ernst & You ng: Feisal has 20 years of experience in Information Technology markets, specifically in Software, Hardware, Semiconductors, and Information Delivery. He has conducted significant work in securing digital based content, including work in internet delivery, digital rights management, piracy and royalty management. He has also served as a subject matter specialist in technology audits for media clients. As Sector Resident Feisal currently spearheads thought leadership initiatives in Ernst & Youngs Global Media & Entertainment Center and organizes a regular forum for Chief Information Officers at New York based media companies. Prior to Ernst & Young, he was Vice President of Business Development at Primeon Inc, Feisal also has extensive experience in software development as Product Manager of Software at Berkeley Process Control, where he was responsible for product strategy. He has also served in the role of Director of Research at Devonshire Partners, as well as Director of Research at Skow Inc. where he was an investment analyst focusing on information technology. At Skow, Inc. Feisal was instrumental in helping launch Vermeer Technologies, creator of FrontPage software that was eventually purchased by Microsoft Corporation for inclusion into its Office suite. He was also a founding investor of Solbright, a vendor of internet advertising workflow delivery software. Feisal has a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
GREG THAGARD, Chief Technology Office, Elektrofilm Digital Studios/eMedia Systems: Greg Thagard currently serves as Chief Technology Officer, Elektrofilm Digital Studios/eMedia Systems. In this position he serves as part of the companys Digital Media Environment (DME) design team, working on next generation image encoding, storage, repurposing and distribution solutions, as well as liaising with numerous vendors and industry standards committees to create digital archive requirements. Thagards expertise includes low bit rate video and audio streaming and compression techniques, broadband wireless and fixed line networks, digital media distribution and server technologies, digital rights management and storage systems. Prior to joining Elektrofilm Digital Studios, Thagard served as the Chief Technology Officer for Prasad Corp. from 2005-2006, and Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer for HDVD from 2003-2005. He held various positions at Warner Bros., including Vice President, Advanced Technology from 1996-2001, Director, Advanced Technology from 1995-1996 and Director, Video Operations from 1994 -1995. Thagard also served as Senior Vice President of Engineering at CST Entertainment Imaging from 1990-1994 and Director of Special Projects for Showscan Corporation from 1987-1990. From 1982-1987, Thagard was the Founder and Executive Vice President of TRC Inc., as well as Founder and Executive Vice President of TTC Inc. from 1977-1985. He has also served in numerous advisory consulting roles with major film studios and consumer electronics and technology companies including Paramount Pictures, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology DOHRS Project and the MIT Media Lab. Thagard is a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, Association for Computer Machinery and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Menlo College.
