Television 2.0: Cable, Telco, Satellite, Broadband & Mobile Redefine the Future of Entertainment and Communications
The television experience has now officially graduated from its status as entertainment king of the living room, to the central component of the entire electronic consumer experience. Television 2.0 has now arrived and it includes cable with all of its integrated services of PVR, DRV, VOD, Broadband, Wireless, VoIP and Mobile as a communications as well as scalable video provider of clips and updates to movies and full programming. The competition for the future of Television 2.0 has just begun. There will be no immediate winner, and there will probably never be a winner. With 250 million consumers in this country to service and a global market to reach out to, the media, entertainment and technology companies are not competing in a zero sum marketing arena. In this session, we will address these issues and more.

Hervé Payan, Senior Vice President, Content Services, Orange France Teleco m: Hervé Payan was appointed Senior Vice President, Content Services at France Telecom in May 2004. He joined France Télécom in 2003 to launch the IPTV in France under the brand name MaLigne TV and then the France Telecom Content Division . Previously, Hervé Payan founded Sports.com a european company delivering sport content services. In 1993, he was appointed CEO of Nethold Electronic Media & Telepiu DSTV, a TV company based in Northern Europe and Italy . Prior to this, he joined Philips Consumer Electronics as Head of TV new product marketing. He began his career as a R&D project manager for SAGEM. Mr Payan has a MBA from INSEAD and an engineering diploma from lEcole Nationale Supérieure des Techniques Avancées (ENSTA).
Ryan OHara is President of TV Guide Channel, a unit of Gemstar-TV G uide. He oversees TV Guide Channel and TV Guide SPOT, the companys new on-demand network, including areas such as programming, marketing, advertising sales, operations, business affairs and finance. Previously he served as President of the TVG horse racing TV network. In his previous position, OHara was responsible for the networks programming, wagering, financial, legal and advertising sales operations. He also managed TVGs development activities with track and on-line partners and coordinated with the companys affiliate sales group to secure long-term carriage deals. OHara has also served as Senior Vice President of Business Development and Strategic Planning for Gemstar-TV Guide International, TVGs parent company. In that role he was responsible for business and operational planning, strategic development and corporate deal making for the companys publishing, cable and satellite, and consumer electronic businesses. Prior to joining Gemstar-TV Guide, OHara was director of Interactive TV Strategy and Development for BSkyB, based in London. Before BSkyB, he worked for Fox Cable Networks, and its predecessor, Fox/Liberty Networks. As director of Business Development, he helped launch the Regional Sports Report on 17 Fox Sports Nets. He also worked on rights acquisitions/partnerships, such as NASCAR, ACC Basketball, Major League Baseball and various regional sports buys that aired on FSN, FX, Speedvision and Fox Sports. Earlier in his career, OHara worked in brand management at Nestle and was an entertainment management consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Stanford University and a Masters of Business Administration from the Harvard Business School.
ALBERT CHENG: Executive Vice President, Digital Media, Disney-ABC T elevision Group: Albert Cheng was promoted to the newly created position of executive vice president, digital media, Disney-ABC Television Group, in September 2005. Based in Burbank, CA, Mr. Cheng reports to Anne Sweeney, co-chairman, Disney Media Networks and president, Disney-ABC Television Group. In this new role, Mr. Cheng is charged with general management and strategic oversight of digital media, as well as development of ancillary revenue streams for Disney-ABC Television Group's diverse portfolio of broadcast and cable networks, including ABC Entertainment, ABC News, ABC Daytime, ABC Family, Disney Channel and SOAPnet. To that end, he leads a newly formed digital media team that oversees product development, marketing and operations for the Group's digital media content platforms, including video-on-demand, broadband, web-based and mobile platforms, as well as interactive television technologies. Mr. Cheng and his digital media team support franchise management through the development of related new products. Additionally, he is responsible for creating new business ventures and partnerships in the digital media and online space, as well as providing additional negotiation planning and support for ABC broadcast affiliate relations in this emerging new area. Mr. Cheng works closely with Disney and ESPN Networks Affiliate Sales and Marketing to ensure the distribution and development of digital media services to cable, satellite, telcos and wireless providers. He also works in close partnership with the Disney-ABC Television Group's marketing team and the Media Networks' strategy group, as well as other divisions within The Walt Disney Company developing these content platforms and consumer products. Prior to this announcement, Albert Cheng served as senior vice president, Business Strategy and Development for Disney and ESPN Networks Affiliate Sales and Marketing, where he was responsible for developing business strategies to increase distribution and generate revenue streams from new products and services. He also oversaw the development of interactive products related to Disney-ABC Cable Networks Group's cable channels, which include ABC Family, Disney Channel, SOAPnet and Toon Disney. In addition Mr. Cheng worked in close association with Disney-ABC Cable Network Group and ESPN's finance teams in sales forecasting and planning for all of the Company's cable television assets. From 2002 to 2004, Mr. Cheng served as senior vice president, Distribution Strategy and Operations for ABC Cable Networks Group, where he was responsible for developing distribution strategies, negotiating deals and creating economic plans for the Group. Additionally, he oversaw the development and implementation of the division's video-on-demand strategy and interactive television applications. He joined ABC Cable Networks in October 2000 as vice president, National Accounts and Distribution Strategy. Previously Mr. Cheng was director, Distribution Strategy, for Fox Cable Networks Group. He was responsible for business development and implementation of three digital cable channels, now known as Fox College Sports. He also developed strategies related to digital cable and broadband services. Mr. Cheng also served as director, Business Development, at Fox/Liberty Networks, where he focused on business issues and analysis for Fox Sports Net and FX Networks. Prior to joining Fox, he served as a business strategy consultant for the Boston Consulting Group. Mr. Cheng earned a BS degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a MBA from Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration. He resides with his wife in Los Angeles
Martijn Lopes Cardozo, Senior Vice President, Corporate Developme nt, TANDBERG Television: As Senior Vice President, Corporate Development at TANDBERG Television, Martijn Lopes Cardozo oversees the Companys strategic partnerships including ecosystem partners and resellers. He is also responsible for equity transactions and the Companys initial entry into new markets. Mr. Lopes Cardozo is particularly focused on TANDBERG Televisions IPTV segment, which provides telecom operators market leading compression, on-demand, and interactive television solutions. Mr. Lopes Cardozo joined TTV through the acquisition of interactive television provider GoldPocket Interactive. As Executive Vice President of Distribution and Partnerships, he oversaw the distribution of GoldPockets ITV technologies to operators and was responsible for developing and managing key strategic partnerships. During his tenure at GoldPocket, Mr. Lopes Cardozo led the Company's entry into the IPTV, wireless, and cable and satellite segments. Prior to GoldPocket, Mr. Lopes Cardozo was a Senior Product Manager at Akamai Technologies, where he arranged and coordinated reseller agreements including a critical arrangement with WebTrends. He previously worked with Unilever in Germany and OC&C Strategy Consultants in the Netherlands. Mr. Lopes Cardozo holds a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School and a Master of Science in Applied Physics from the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.
Rishi Malhotra is Director of HBO On Demand for Home Box Office, Inc.: He is responsible for overseeing product management, marketing strategy, enhanced content development, and product growth for HBO On Demand/Cinemax On Demand. He joined in 2004. Before joining HBO, Rishi worked in various capacities as a brand and product strategist with Pricewaterhouse Coopers in Financial Services and with Proxicom, Inc. as a lead in their Digital Media and Online practice. In 2002, he founded Boogie, a music consulting firm specializing in aligning established brands with music to inspire customers, impact business and give voice to multiple consumer touchpoints. Over the years, he's had the pleasure of delivering creative solutions for industry-leading brands like Lexus, Nike, Motorola and American Express. Rishi holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from Washington University in St. Louis. He is a key supporter of entertainment diversity initiatives such as OASA and NAMIC.
Peter O. Price was named President and CEO of The National Academy of Televi sion Arts & Sciences in February, 2002. In a short time, he has expanded the role of the National Television Academy as a professional service organization dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of television and the promotion of creative leadership for artistic, educational and technical achievements within the television industry. Under his leadership, the Academy recently created a new Emmy Award for video content on new delivery platforms, including the Internet, mobile phones, iPods, PDAs and similar devices. This award was first presented at the 33rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards in April 2006 to Live 8 on AOL, and subsequently in 2006 for Sports, News & Documentary, Business & Financial Reporting, Technology & Engineering and Community & Public Service. Price also spearheaded the development of the Business & Financial Reporting Emmy Awards. He expanded the Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards, one of the Academys oldest ceremonies honoring patent holders of television technology, to also recognize the technical applications of patented technology via the Advanced Media Technology Awards. As a result, the Microsofts XBOX Live received an Emmy Award. His efforts to recognize U.S. Spanish language programming led to an historic ceremony in 2005, honoring national Spanish language broadcasters. This year, that awards ceremony, Leaders of Spanish Language Television will be held in New York City. In 2005 he played a key role in the Academys establishment of the first Management Hall of Fame. Price also was instrumental in the formation of programs for the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Foundation, which fosters the next generation of broadcast journalists through National Student Television, a high school curriculum and the National Student Television Awards of Excellence. Price recruited long-time ABC News executive Av Westin, now Executive Director of the Foundation, to develop a program focused on journalism ethics and genuine newsroom decision-making, which has engaged hundreds of high schools nationwide. Prior to joining the National Television Academy, he was President of Television Tonight, a venture between the major television networks and movie chains, and President of "Television USA," joint venture with The Wall Street Journal. Price first entered the television industry as the Founder and President of Cable Networks, Inc., and was President of Liberty Cable Television from 1990 to 1997. He is active in the media and entertainment industry as a Board Member of RKO Pictures, a member of the Media Center of The Museum of Television & Radio, and a member of the Executive Roundtable of the New York New Media Association. Price began his media career as a summer intern at the Wall Street Journal while attending Princeton University, where he graduated with honors in 1962. He subsequently graduated from Yale Law School, then served as an officer in the United States Air Force before joining New York City government as Counsel To The Taxi Commission. From 1966 to 1970 he held a series of management positions at TIME-LIFE before becoming Director of Corporate Development of TIME Incorporated. He left in 1970 to become President of Media Networks, Inc. (MNI) and after selling the firm to 3M, managed MNI as a subsidiary of the 3M Company until 1986. In 1987 he was named Publisher of The New York Post and, subsequently, President and Publisher of The National Sports Daily. Mr. Price is active in educational and civic affairs. Until recently he was Chairman of the Board of Governors of Eugene Lang College, a Trustee of The New School University, and a member of the Conference of University Board Chairmen. He is Chairman of The Avenue Association and a Trustee of the Colbert Foundation. He has served as an Advisor to the Governments of France and the United States on Telecommunications policy as Chairman of the Video Dial Tone Association in Washington, DC; and as Chairman of the International Chapter of The Young Presidents Organization.
Jonathan Weitz, Principal, IBB Consulting, Moderator: Jonathan is a principal with IBB Consulting, where he is responsible for leading pioneering initiatives from strategic analysis and business model definition to organization and operations design. Jonathan works closely with senior leadership to coordinate complex, cross-division programs in the media, cable and wireless industries. Jonathan is a seasoned business strategy, operations and change consultant, with experience in Broadband Media Strategy, Product and Service Strategy, Market Entry, Marketing and Sales Effectiveness, Customer Acquisition/Retention, Portfolio Management, M&A Due Diligence, IT Strategy, Organization Design and Change Management. Jonathan has led initiatives which drive revenue through monetization of broadband content. He has published white-papers and articles on topics pertinent to the Media industry such as Broadband TV and has conducted research on global trends in advanced advertising and mobile content. Over the course of his career he has advised companies such as Comcast and Viacom. Prior to joining IBB Consulting, Jonathan was with BearingPoint's strategy practice. He holds a BA in Organizational Psychology and Communications from the University of Michigan and a Masters in Business Administration from New York University.
