Anthony Bay, co-founder and chairman, MOD Systems, Moderator
Anthony Bay, Executive Chairman and Founder, MOD Systems: Anthony Bay, cha irman and co-founder of MOD Systems, brings more than 25 years of experience as a technology executive and private venture investor. Mr. Bay sits on the board of CMGI (NASDAQ: CMGI) and chairs the technology committee, which governs its @Ventures VC subsidiary. He is also a principal in 21st Century Music, an independent music company. Mr. Bay served for five years on the board of European Capital Ventures (ECV), a small private equity investment firm in London, and he also served as chairman and vice chairman for four years at Active24 (OSLO: ACTIVE), an ECV portfolio company and one of the largest pan-European small and medium business web hosting providers. Mr. Bay is the former executive chairman of Loudeye Corporation (NASDAQ: LOUD), the leading provider of business-to-business systems and services for the digital media industry. Loudeye operates more than 90 digital music stores in over 20 countries for a variety of customers including France Telecom, O2, Cingular Wireless, MSN, The Coca-Cola Company, and Nokia. Loudeye also manages the worlds largest licensed archive of digital music with more than five million tracks, and is the worlds largest provider of music sampling services to online retailers. Before joining Loudeye, Mr. Bay spent six years with Microsoft, last serving as corporate vice president and general manager of the Digital Media Division, and as a member of Microsofts executive staff. He was responsible for multimedia and digital rights management (DRM) technologies, overseeing a team of 700 and a research and development budget of more than $100M. Mr. Bays team was responsible for the creation and development of Windows Media technologies including Media Player, Media Server, codecs, DRM, and the windowsmedia.com portal. Previously, Mr. Bay served as general manager of Microsoft's Commercial Systems Division. He was responsible for core components of the Internet services platform including ISP and carrier infrastructure, web site development, content management, and e-commerce. Mr. Bay joined Microsoft in 1994 as part of the MSN management team and was responsible initially for Internet strategy and engineering. He was appointed general manager of all MSN development and systems. Mr. Bay managed the development organization that shipped the original version of MSN with Windows 95. Mr. Bay spent eight years at Apple Computer, including three years at Apple's European headquarters in Paris. He served as general manager of Apple's Online Services in Europe, general manager for Enterprise Systems Europe, and product line manager for Apple's Workgroup Systems. Before joining Apple, Mr. Bay was a principal in two Silicon Valley start-up companies: Grapevine Communications, an online services company, and Groupware Systems, a workgroup applications company. Mr. Bay has a bachelors degree from the University of California Los Angeles and an MBA from California State University San Jose. He also has studied at INSEAD in Paris, France, and at Goerg-August Universitaet in Goettingen, Germany.
Ali Diab, Co-Founder, President of Products & Technology, Ripple: As Co-Found er and President, Products and Technology at Ripple, Ali Diab has overall responsibility for engineering, marketing, operations and product management at the company. Before co-founding Ripple, Ali was Vice President at Yahoo!, where he managed Yahoo!s Web Search, Image Search, Video Search, Local Search, Maps and Yellow Pages product groups. Previously, he was Senior Director of Search Products at Yahoo!. Prior to Yahoo!, Ali was the General Manager of the MSN Mobile and Broadband product groups at Microsoft, where he oversaw the growth of MSN Mobile to become the Worlds #1 wireless Internet services portal. Previously, he served as Group Product Manager for MSN Messenger, where he oversaw the growth of MSN Messenger from less than 10 million users to over 75 million users. Before Microsoft, Ali was Co-Founder and President of BuildPoint.com, the Worlds first online commerce site for the construction and real estate industries. Ali has spoken at more than 30 industry conferences during his career, including Search Engine Strategies (SES), the Kelsey Group Conference, Web 2.0, AdTech and the Goldman Sachs Internet Conference. He has also been a guest speaker on several university speaker panels at Stanford, Berkeley, Caltech, Harvard and MIT. Ali is a graduate of Stanford University and Oxford University
David Brewster, Senior VP, Marketing and Creative Services, PlayNetwork: David joi ned PlayNetwork in July 2005 after a period of consulting work, and was appointed Senior Vice President, Promotional Services in November 2005. From 1997 to 2004, David directed the music and entertainment business at Starbucks Coffee Company. He helped craft a seamless customer experience with the Starbucks brand through music, at multiple touch points including in-store programming, custom compilation CDs, targeted sponsorships and through the retail operations of Hear Music stores and website. David understands the methodology, effects and business results of national brand enhancement through the power of music and entertainment. David's previous career was in trade book publishing, with roles in editorial, sales and marketing for Houghton Mifflin Co. and PenguinPutnam (formerly Viking Penguin). He has a degree in English from Reed College.
David Wolf, Partner, Media & Entertainment, Accenture: David Wolf is a Partner in Accentures Media & Entertainment practice where he is responsible for Accentures global entertainment industry segment. He has over 16 years experience leading and delivering large innovative technology programs. With Davids deep entertainment industry expertise, he has been on the forefront of technology changes, including eCommerce and Digital Asset Management. For the past 9 years David has been instrumental in helping define Accentures digital content services point of view, developing capabilities, establishing and managing relationships with emerging technology companies and delivering strategic engagements. David has been responsible for leading engagements that pioneered new technologies or applied existing technologies in new and innovative ways, including helping a leading global entertainment company deliver an enterprise digital asset management capability for advertising and publicity materials, helping a leading interactive entertainment company launch a new interactive gaming business, and helping a startup technology company pioneer eCommerce. David graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a BS in Computer Science.
Dave Adams, Manager, Strategic Planning of Best Buy Co, Inc.: David Adams is a strategy and business development director with 12 years of domestic and international experience in industries ranging from commercial real estate and education to energy and retail. He has been with Best Buy for 5 years. In his role as Director, Entertainment Growth and Strategy Video, Dave is responsible for developing strategies that will position Best Buy to compete in the changing competitive landscape of entertainment. Currently, he is leading efforts to develop an in-store media on demand strategy for digital music, movies and games. Previous to Best Buy, Dave was a real estate strategic consultant for Equis in Chicago, a freelance English teacher in Indonesia and Brazil and an associate in energy services in Houston, Texas. Dave graduated with a BA in History and Business from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and an MBA in International Finance from Thunderbird, the Garvin Graduate School of International Management in Phoenix, Arizona.
