Hollywood and the Digital Consumer: How Technology, Content and Services Establish the Next Level of Consumer Entertainment Experience
The next generation of technology within the digital home will bring with it not only more content to the consumer, it will bring with it greater choice and more individual personalization into the process. While the actual definition of the digital home is still emerging, the idea of a fully connected consumer, living in a high speed DTV, PVR, HD, broadband and wireless environment is a good jumping off place. Hollywood, the provider of the content will not only flourish in this environment, it will probably enter a new golden age of production as it discovers how best to relate to it consumer base. How Hollywood will respond to a fully realized OnDemand television, film and games universe is the latest challenge to be faced. The technologies now finding their way into the home are disruptive, not only to the content community, but to the consumer electronics community as well. The brave new world of the digital home is not only an exciting new market opportunity for Hollywood, it is also brings with it a complex labyrinth of difficult options.

James A. Pitaro is currently the Vice President of Yahoo! Media. Pitaro is responsible for guiding the strategic growth and continued development of Yahoo!’s media properties which reach more than 70 million unique visitors per month. In that role, Pitaro oversees the programming, content and regional business strategies for Yahoo! Finance, Yahoo! Sports, Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Entertainment (Movies, TV, Music, omg!), Yahoo! Games, Shine and more. In 2006, Pitaro became Vice President and General Manager of Yahoo! Sports where he was credited with leading Yahoo! Sports to its current position as the #1 online sports destination. He led Yahoo! Inc.’s acquisition of the college destination Rivals.com and managed partnerships with the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, NASCAR, UFC, and Turner Broadcasting to deliver compelling video, including live games and highlights. Pitaro was previously Vice President and Head of Business Affairs for Yahoo! Music. In this position Pitaro managed the Business Affairs operations for the business unit and helped Yahoo! Music become the web’s #1 music site, giving consumers the ability to watch, listen to and control their digital music experience directly on Yahoo!. He was integral in helping Yahoo! Music forge unique and valuable relationships with all of the major record labels and with such major brands as Nissan, Pepsi, and Saturn. Pitaro joined Yahoo! in August 2001 with the company’s acquisition of LAUNCH Media, Inc. Before joining the Yahoo! team, Pitaro was Vice President of Business Affairs for LAUNCH Media, Inc. Prior to joining LAUNCH Media, Inc., Pitaro worked as an associate at the law firms of Marshall, Conway & Wright and Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, Edelman & Dicker, both based in New York City, focusing initially on commercial litigation and subsequently on media and entertainment transactions. A New York native, Pitaro graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics, and received his J.D. from St. John’s Law School, where he was a member of the Law Review, Bankruptcy Division. Pitaro is a member of the advisory board of PACER, an organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children with disabilities. He resides in Southern California with his wife and two children, and is a passionate Yankee fan.

Ron Lamprecht, Senior Vice President, Sales Business Development, NBC Universal Digital Distribution: Ron Lamprecht was appointed Senior Vice President, Sales Business Development, NBC Universal Digital Distribution, in February 2007. Lamprecht’s responsibilities include overseeing the digital sales and distribution of NBC Universal's television content across multiple platforms, including wireless, Internet and emerging digital customers. In addition, he supports the TV Networks Distribution team with distributing the company’s cable network and content portfolio. Lamprecht reports to Jean-Briac (JB) Perrette, President, Digital & Affiliate Distribution and Content Distribution Strategy. Most recently, Lamprecht played a pivotal role in the success of NBC Universal’s 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the most watched event in the U.S. television history, through securing the distribution of Olympics content on multiple platforms including wireless. In addition to his work for the 2008 Olympics, he was instrumental in the return of hit NBC Universal programming to the iTunes® Store. The renegotiation between NBC Universal and iTunes allows customers to have access to standard definition and HD programs with pricing flexibility and choose programming from NBC, USA Network, SyFy Channel, Bravo, Sleuth and NBC News. Additionally, Lamprecht has executed a number of industry-leading distribution deals on emerging platforms, including Amazon Unbox and Microsoft's Xbox and Zune platforms, as well as leading mobile Web site (WAP) content deals with wireless distributors AT&T, Verizon Wireless, T-mobile, Alltel, Nokia and RIM. He also played an integral role in the launch and content distribution of Hulu, NBC Universal's online video joint venture with News Corp. In Lamprecht’s previous role as Vice President, New Media, NBC Universal Cable, he oversaw the distribution deals for mobile channels on MediaFLO, Verizon Wireless, MobiTV, Alltel and AT&T. Prior, he managed the launch of Universal HD, which offers the best of NBC Universal's library in HD with award-winning series, films, sports and special events. He first joined NBC in 2000, and has held various Business Development positions at NBC Universal. Previously, Lamprecht was an electrical engineer for a firm specializing in the design of large-scale trading floors and technology center. An industry leader, Lamprecht was selected for Multichannel’s “40 under 40” list and TV Week’s “Hot List” in 2007. Lamprecht holds an MBA from NYU’s Stern School of Business, and is a graduate of the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art with a degree in electrical engineering. He is currently an adjunct instructor at Columbia University in the Executive Information Technology Management program. He lives in Manhattan with his wife, Susanne, and their children, Julian and Lucia.

Robert Tercek was named President, Digital Media for OWN in October 2008. Tercek
oversees the multimedia ventures for OWN and Oprah.com and, as such, is responsible for leading the team that creates and markets multi-platform opportunities for OWN and Oprah.com content. With a strong background in social media, he is charged with spearheading initiatives to build a significant social media presence for the brands. A seasoned media executive, Mr. Tercek’s experience spans two decades in creating and marketing content on all digital distribution platforms, including cable, broadband, game consoles, and mobile. Since 2006, he has headed his own company, Multimedia Networks, Inc. Headquartered in Los Angeles, Multimedia launched the social startup media ventures Comedy.com and PeopleJam.com. Both ventures were driven from conception through venture financing to successful launches under Mr. Tercek’s leadership. Prior to forming Multimedia Networks, Mr. Tercek served as Chief Marketing Officer for M Forma Group, one of the world’s largest publishers of entertainment for mobile phones. There, he oversaw content programming and marketing strategies, forming key partnerships with Paramount, Universal, Atari, Activision, Hasbro, CBS Sportsline, and Marvel Comics, among others. Before that, he served as President of the Applications and Services Division of Packetvideo Corporation, the first company to provide multimedia in mobile networks. Mr. Tercek’s cable career began as Creative Director at MTV, where he led the groundbreaking pop culture network’s on-air creative department. He moved into online programming as Senior Vice President of Digital Media at Sony Pictures Entertainment, where he launched more than twenty online properties, including interactive versions of the top-rated syndicated programs Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Williams College. Mr. Tercek is based in Los Angeles, but he spends much of his time in Chicago.

Greg Clayman is Executive Vice President of Digital Distribution & Business Developmen
t for MTV Networks (MTVN). In his role, Clayman manages digital business development across MTV Networks, working closely with its brands to develop new opportunities for distribution of digital content and to strike deals with online partners. Based in the company’s New York City headquarters, Clayman reports to Mika Salmi, President, Global Digital Media, MTVN. Clayman also oversees the MTVN Mobile Media group, supporting the company’s brands in developing and distributing a wide portfolio of mobile content and applications. Additionally, Clayman partners with MTVN’s International division on global partnerships and distribution strategy. Previously, Clayman served as Senior Vice President, MTVN Mobile Media, managing mobile partnerships and content distribution for the company. Prior to joining MTVN, Clayman co-founded Upoc Networks and served as its Vice President of Marketing, Sales, and Business Development. Previously, Clayman served as Vice President of Brand Strategy at the Sterling Group in New York City. At Sterling, Clayman led brand strategy projects for a number of media, entertainment and retail companies including MTV Networks, Liberty Digital, and Levi's. Clayman graduated cum laude with a degree in English & American Literature from Harvard College.

Lewis Henderson was named chief executive officer of Davie Brown Entertainment in March 2009, replacing the retiring James Davie, who co-founded the agency in 1985. Prior to joining Davie Brown, Henderson spent nearly 20 years with the William Morris Agency, most recently serving as head of William Morris' digital practice. In that role, Henderson built WMA's digital entertainment businesses on behalf of the agency's clients across film, television, music, publishing, theater, sports, corporate and international. Henderson drove a number of the industry's most notable technology and media partnerships, having counseled many of today's leading companies from the broadband, mobile and video game arenas. Prior to the launch of William Morris Digital in 2006, Henderson was a co-founder of WMA's corporate consulting division. In this post, he advised Fortune 500 companies on entertainment marketing as well as content development, licensing, acquisition and distribution. Henderson has consulted with a number of international brands and organizations, including Nokia, Pfizer, 24 Hour Fitness, Monster.com, U.S. Olympic Committee, NFL, British Telecom and Compaq. Henderson earned a bachelor's of science degree from Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas.

Richard Cooperstein is Chief Executive Officer of Media Investment Group, an investment advisory and management services firm that focuses on technology, media and content companies. In his twenty years of operating roles, Richard, most recently served as Head of International Business Development and Strategy at Facebook Inc. where he managed international bd expansion efforts including exploring global and regional distribution partnerships, strategic relationships, media and monetization prospects, as well as numerous growth-oriented initiatives and operations for Facebook. Since the early spring of 2008 - during its period of most rapid growth - Richard managed and/or participated in an extensive array of international business, corporate development and/or financing efforts for the company. Richard also served as a leader of various programs and collaborations with media, sports, entertainment, communications and technology companies as well as on-boarding and directing numerous global public personalities to utilize the platform and its newest functionalities. During his tenure, Richard actively participated in and helped accelerate the success of Facebook's growth from approximately 60 million active users less than two years ago onto its trajectory now well over 400m active users worldwide. Prior to Facebook, Richard served as the Senior Vice President of Disney's Worldwide Television Group. In that capacity, Richard managed Finance, Business Development and Equity Ventures for Disney ABC Worldwide Television and managed consolidation of the global distribution group's substantial revenue for The Walt Disney Company. Reporting to the group president, Richard served in chief financial officer, strategic and operating capacities. Previously, he served in operational and management roles within Media Investment Group (President/General Partner, 1999-2004), Viacom Entertainment Group/Paramount Pictures Corp (Senior Vice President, 1995-1999), Time Warner/ HBO International and Warner Bros International Television (1989-1995). Richard holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Harvard College, a master's degree in law from Cambridge University, England and a master's degree in business administration from Harvard Business School. He has also completed the Executive Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School and completed the pre-law program at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Ira Rubenstein, Executive Vice President, Global Digital Media: Ira Rubenstein has built a career on identifying and implementing new marketing and distribution opportunities for entertainment across a wide array of platforms. In his role at Marvel Rubenstein is responsible for the company's Global digital strategy and implementation for all of Marvel's properties across digital and games channels. Prior to Marvel, Rubenstein spent 12 years with Sony, most recently as executive vice president of Sony Pictures Digital where he was responsible for overseeing the division's production efforts to extend Sony Pictures properties into the digital marketplace through SonyPictures.com, mobile games and personalization products, casual games, and innovative strategic partnerships. Rubenstein managed the digital growth of the studio's most important brands including Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! - leading the expansion of these properties into broadband, interactive television, mobile, and the PSP and PS3 platforms. In addition, Rubenstein oversaw production for all Sony Pictures properties breaking into the growing mobile marketplace, developing an array of successful mobile entertainment offerings including the award-winning Spider-Man 2: The Hero Returns and Ratchet and Clank: Going Mobile, as well as the first Movies for Mobile Phones on Memory Cards. Also during his tenure at Sony, Rubenstein oversaw the establishment of Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment's on-demand movie initiative, Movielink, to offer theatrically released motion pictures via digital delivery for broadband Internet users. Before the establishment of Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment, Rubenstein was vice president, marketing, Columbia TriStar Interactive. In this role, he managed the strategic implementation of media planning, promotional and creative advertising campaigns for more than 100 film sites. Before joining Columbia TriStar Interactive, Rubenstein worked in film research and new media for Twentieth Century Fox. Rubenstein was recently included on the highly regarded "Digital 50" list, a distinction given to fifty new media innovators by The Producers Guild of America's New Media Council. Recognition for his work also includes Webby Awards, a Mobie award for games, a Gold Clio and several Key Art Awards. Rubenstein holds a B.A. in Management Science from UC San Diego and is a graduate of the Peter Stark Producing Program at USC.
