Virginie L. Parant, partner, Artist Law Group: Her practice encompasses all aspects of the entertainment and media industries, with a focus on the convergence of content and technology. Prior to co-founding ALG, Ms. Parant was Vice-President of Business Affairs for XingMail, Inc., an online music marketing company. Ms. Parant started her career at Gunderson Dettmer, LLP., a leading Silicon Valley law firm, where she developed a cutting-edge practice, representing a broad range of clients in new media transactions. Ms. Parant received an LL.M. from the University of California at Berkeley, School of Law (Boalt Hall). She also holds a D.E.A. de Droit de la Propriété Littéraire, Artistique et Industrielle (LL.M. in Intellectual Property Law) with Honors and a Maîtrise en Droit Privé (J.D.) with High Honors from Paris University (known to many as the Sorbonne). A European Union Erasmus Scholar and former Assistant Editor for ABA publication the Entertainment and Sports Lawyer, Ms. Parant has published numerous articles on copyright law. Her 1996 article, Copyright Enforcement in a Digital Environment, was selected for republication in the American Bar Association’s Best-Of-The-Year issue. Named by Southern California Super Lawyers a “Rising Star” for 2005, Ms. Parant is regularly featured as a speaker at various industry events. She was also featured as regular on-air legal analyst on E! Entertainment (French affiliate) for the 2005 Michael Jackson trial.

Cindy Charles, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, MediaNet: Ms. Charles is responsible for MediaNet's business and legal affairs, which includes overseeing content licensing, partner contracts and government relations. In addition, she also serves as Corporate Secretary. Previously, Ms. Charles held a variety of positions for MTV Networks over a six-year period including Vice President of Law and Business Affairs for MTVi, an interactive division of MTV Networks, which included MTV.com, VH1.com, Sonicnet.com and CMT.com. Before that Ms. Charles was Vice President of Law and Business Affairs for MTV Networks. Prior to MTV Networks, Ms. Charles was General Counsel for WarnerVision Entertainment. Ms. Charles also served in various legal positions at Worldvision Enterprises, the Screen Actors Guild and the law firms of Lawrence Waldman and Robert Mauer, Esq. Ms. Charles received her law degree from Pace University School of Law and a BA in Political Science from State University of New York at Buffalo.

John M. Gatti, Partner, Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP: John M. Gatti has over 21 years of litigation and trial experience in state, federal and bankruptcy courts. His practice includes representing individuals and corporations in complex business and commercial disputes. Mr. Gatti has had extensive trial experience in a variety of industries, with a specific emphasis in the entertainment and media industries. The Hollywood Reporter named him one of the nation’s 100 most influential entertainment attorneys in its “Top 100 Influential Attorneys in Entertainment” in 2007, 2008 and 2009. He represents studios, television networks, film financers, talent, gaming and sports entities, and independent entertainment production companies involved in the media, entertainment, sports, internet and game industries. These representations include actions for breach of contract, unfair competition, copyright and trademark infringement, profit participation claims, idea submission claims, media torts including defamation, invasion of privacy and right to publicity and use of celebrity name and likeness in all media, including the Internet. Prior to joining Stroock in 2009, Mr. Gatti was a principal shareholder with the law firm of Greenberg Traurig, where he was the Co-Chair of its National Media and Entertainment Litigation Group.

Alan Friel is a partner in the Intellectual Property Department of Wildman Harrold. He
counsels his clients on contractual transactions, intellectual property, regulatory compliance, financing, licensing, distribution, acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic alliances. His clients span a number of industries, including advertising and promotions, film, television, animation, music, publishing, technology, interactive games, software, Internet and eCommerce, manufacturing, telecommunications, apparel and consumer products. Alan is a member of the entertainment, intellectual property, technology and advertising sections of several bar associations and is AV® Preeminent™ 5.0 out of 5 Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell. He is also active in philanthropic activities, serving or having served as outside general counsel or on the board of several charitable institutions and trade associations.






Christopher Kenneally, Director, Author Relations, Copyright Clearance Center: At Copyright Clearance Center, Christopher Kenneally is responsible for organizing and hosting programs that address the business needs of authors and publishers of all backgrounds and sizes. Among other activities, he is host and moderator for an ongoing series of writing conferences called, “Beyond the Book” (www.beyondthebook.com). The programs have been broadcast nationally on C-SPAN’s Book-TV and in Canada on BookTelevision; the series is also now a podcast, available from iTunes.com. In addition, Kenneally’s articles on such topics as blogging, search engines, and the impact of technology on writers have appeared in the Boston Business Journal, Washington Business Journal, and BookTech Magazine, among other publications.
