Ryan OHara is president of TV Guide Network, an entertainment network with original and acquired TV programming distributed in more than 83 million homes with 2006 revenues of $129 million. Mr. OHara is charged with managing TV Guide Networks strategy and growth and overseeing all aspects of the business, including programming, marketing, publicity, advertising sales, operations, business affairs and finance. Mr. OHara is also president of TV Guide Broadband, an advertising supported video programming service which is currently marketed and distributed on You Tube, Veoh, Comcast The Fan, AOL Video and Hulu. Previously, Mr. OHara served as president of TVG, a horseracing television network and web business. During his tenure, he was responsible for the overall business operations and the P&L. During that time, revenues grew from $39 million to $52 million and distribution grew 26%. He also managed TVGs rights activities with track and on-line partners and coordinated with the companys affiliate sales group to secure long-term carriage deals. Mr. OHara has also served as senior vice president of business development and strategic planning for Gemstar-TV Guide. In that role, he was responsible for corporate strategy and deal making across numerous media segments including publishing, cable and satellite, and consumer electronics. Prior to joining Gemstar-TV Guide, Mr. OHara was director of interactive TV strategy for BSkyB, based in London. While at the Sky UK satellite platform, he focused on creating interactive content that differentiated the platform from cable and Internet competitors. Before BSkyB, he worked for Fox Cable Networks and Fox/Liberty Networks. As director of business development, he helped launch the Regional Sports Report on 17 Fox Sports Nets. He also worked on rights acquisitions with NASCAR, ACC Basketball, Major League Baseball and regional sports buys that aired on FSN, FX, Speedvision and Fox Sports. Prior to joining News Corp/Fox, Mr. OHara worked as an entertainment management consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers and in brand management at Nestle USA. Mr. OHara serves on the Board of Directors of the Hollywood & Radio Television Society and is a member of the Paley Center of Media. He is also on the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Young Presidents Organization. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Stanford University and a Masters of Business Administration from the Harvard Business School.
Stephan Shelanski is executive vice president of programming for Starz Entertainment, LLC. In this role, Shelanski licenses programming for all of Starz Entertainments platforms: 16 linear channels, On Demand services and Starz Play, as well as acquiring content for Anchor Bay Entertainment. In addition, Shelanski is responsible for the original programming content for all of the Starz networks, as well as oversees materials operations for Starz, and supervises the creative services area for interstitial programming. Recent originals include the companys first drama series Crash, the comedy series Head Case and Party Down and the stand-up comedy series Martin Lawrence Presents 1st Amendment Stand-up. In addition, Shelanski has overseen documentaries including New Orleans Music in Exile, Bullets Over Hollywood, Going to Pieces: The Rise and Fall of the Slasher Film, Comic Books Unbound, Bloodsucking Cinema, Fantastic Flesh, and Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride, a feature film documentary on gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson. Prior to joining Starz Entertainment in 1994, Shelanski was with Home Box Office (HBO) working as the director of Cinemax scheduling. Shelanski is a graduate of Harvard with a BA in Mathematics and holds a Masters in Cinema Studies from New York University. Raised in Philadelphia, Shelanski resides in Denver and is married with three young children.
Jason Cieslak, Managing Director, Interactive Media, Siegel+Gale: As Managing Director, Jason is responsible for Siegel+Gales operations on the West Coast. Jason oversees key West Coast based clients which include Activision, Microsoft, Sony PlayStation, and Yahoo! to name a few. Jason has helped Sony PlayStation launch the PlayStation3, The PlayStation Network and a variety of its specific product offerings including Home, Qore and Pulse. Hes worked with Activision on Guitar Hero and he helped Microsoft relaunch Windows in 2008. In his previous role of Executive Director, Interactive Media, Jason oversaw Siegel+Gale's Interactive Media practice. The practice provides Strategy + Concept Development, Information Architecture + Process Simplification, User Experience Design + Development, Content Strategy + Development, and Online Brand Training for a global client base. Key clients he led included Capital Research, The College Board, Experian, Lexus, Jiffy Lube, Nestle, and Qtel. Jason is a frequent speaker and panelist at industry and trade conferences and has been featured at American Marketing Association, The Conference Board, CTI Expo, Internet World, KMWorld, PCIA GlobalXchange and Southern California Software Association. Prior to joining Siegel+Gale, Jason was the marketing director for Lee & Associates, San Diego, where he established a full-service marketing department that developed regional advertising, marketing collateral, standardized proposal systems, and electronic presentations for the company's regional offices. He also led the company's corporate initiative to design and implement a database management system that seamlessly integrated a variety of databases among the company's offices. Jason attended the University of California, Riverside, where he received a BS in Business Administration.
Rob Hayes, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Showtime Digital Media: Hayes leads Showtimes Digital Media Group including both strategy and the day-to-day operations for Showtimes broadband, mobile and interactive television (ITV) initiatives. In this capacity, he oversees digital business development, multi-platform content, digital platform marketing, production and technical operations. In addition, Hayes holds responsibility for developing new revenue streams through product distribution (iTunes, Amazon, etc.), ad sales/sponsorships, ecommerce, etc. Previously, Hayes served as Senior Vice President, New Media and Vice President of New Media for Showtime Networks Inc., positions he had held since April 2001. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Business Development and was instrumental in the strategy and launch of Showtime's digital multiplexes. Hayes also served as Vice President, International Business Development, charged with assessing opportunities for Showtime and other Showtime Network brands in the international marketplace focusing on Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. He joined the company as Director of International Business Development in 1995. Before Showtime Networks, Hayes worked at HBO for five years in their International Business Development and Operations group launching HBO's first networks overseas. His speaker engagements include CNBC, NPR, NAMIC, Consumer Electronic Show (CES), Jupiter Media Metrix, Pro Max/BDA, Digital Hollywood, Streaming Media West. He is based out of the New York headquarters.
Don Steele, Vice President of Digital Marketing, MTV Networks: Don Steele is the Vice President of Digital Marketing for the MTVN Entertainment group. There he is in charge of setting the strategy and implementing digital marketing initiatives for the websites and digital brands of Comedy Central, Spike and TV Land. In this roll he has implemented very effective Search, Viral, Mobile, Email and Social Marketing strategies. He has spoken previously at SES events in San Jose, Chicago and New York as well as at OMMA and eTail. Prior to Comedy Central, Don ran the e-commerce business for the Food Network. He began is career in the digital space working for DELiA*s.com after a background in the catalog industry
Michael Kernan, Chief Executive Officer, NuMedia Studios (former executive ICM) Based in the Los Angeles office of ICM, Michael leads and coordinates the company's digital and new media assets, including working with ICM's London and New York offices. With its recent acquisition of The Broder Webb Chervin Silbermann Agency, ICM is the premier agency for creators of television and new media programming. Michael joined ICM in 2000, and has packaged numerous new media projects. He has been a leader in Internet deal making, in addition to developing content for the new media platform. Michael is a strategic advisor for technology and new media company clients on growth and financing. Prior to ICM, Michael practiced entertainment law at Lavely & Singer and Behr Abramson & Kaller, and consulted on patents and patent related issues at Gauntlet and Associates. Michael completed his undergraduate studies at The University of Illinois, and attended The University of California, Hastings College of Law, where he served as the Executive Associate Editor of "The Hastings Entertainment Law Review."
Mark J. Kapczynski, Chief Operating Officer, Kontrol Media: Mark Kapczynski has a successful track record as a serial entrepreneur, chief executive and media industry expert. His current venture, Kontrol Media Corp., is an idea incubator for startups and senior professionals in the media and technology markets including Web 2.0, mobile, and television. Prior to that, he was founder and CEO of MESoft, a media and entertainment software company, for which Kapczynski raised two rounds of seed and venture capital funding exceeding $8MM. Under his leadership, the company also grew its distribution to a global level and partnered with leading IT companies, such as IBM, Sun and AMD, and media companies that include Avid, Ascent Media and Sony. Additionally, he received a patent for a digital media workflow process. From 1995 to 2002, Kapczynski worked at Microsoft Corporation as their Director of Worldwide Media & Entertainment Solutions Group. During that time, he worked with numerous digital media and internet start-ups such as Homestore (now Move.com), Movielink, and MeTV. Mark Kapczynski got his first taste at being an entrepreneur in 1993 when he founded Digital Genesis-a pioneer in the internet/e-commerce space-which was sold to publicly-traded Netgateway, Inc. (NGWY, now IIG) three years later. Mr. Kapczynski graduated from UCLA film school and continues to be active in multiple industry associations that span media, mobile telecom, technology, and Internet Web 2.0. In his free time, Mr. Kapczynski enjoys car racing and playing the drums.
