As the technology is refined and the networks become more powerful, the customer experience will become richer, in accessing content and information, locating and interacting in communities of ideas as well as being served more relevant commerce and advertising information. As the consumer pursues his/her areas of interest, joining and interacting in communities, content and advertising partners must respond in kind, by giving the consumer only the data that is relevant. As the mobile, computer and TV platforms become more elegant, both physically as well as in its software and operating system capabilities, the world of hypertageting and hyperselecting – from both the client and server sides will deliver a more satisfactory and sophisticated experience.

Chris Tolles, CEO, Topix: Chris came to Topix from Spoke Software, a business social networking company, where he was a co-founder and VP of marketing. Before Spoke, Chris was a Director of Marketing at AOL/Netscape for AOL Music, Netscape Search and Directory Products. Chris was a co-founder and VP of Marketing at NewHoo, and led the sale of the company to Netscape. After the acquisition, NewHoo was relaunched as the Open Directory Project at Netscape and became the world's largest human edited directory of the web, and is still used by companies like Google, Alexa and AOL. Previous to NewHoo, Chris held a variety of sales, marketing and management positions at Sun Microsystems. Chris graduated from the University of California at San Diego with degrees in Computer Science and Economics, where he was awarded the Michael J. Addison award for his senior thesis about the online information industry.



Bill Flitter, Founder/CEO, pheedo: Bill is an industry expert on RSS, distributed media, and online marketing trends and best practices, and speaks regularly on these topics at industry events. Prior to Pheedo, Bill founded Email Shopping Network (BTE Direct, Inc.) and directed its sales and marketing activities until its acquisition by eUniverse in 2002 (now: News Corporation; NYSE: NWS). Bill is widely recognized as a leading thinker on internet marketing trends and is a frequent speaker at advertising and marketing events. He recently spoke at AdTech, San Francisco, and OMMA, Hollywood, and has also spoken at the Syndicate Conference, AdForum, the Business Marketing Association, and the American Press Institute. He is often quoted on industry trends and his expertise has been cited on MarketWatch and in Adweek, Advertising Age, ClickZ, and other publications. Raised in Wisconsin, Bill graduated with a degree in advertising from the University of Wisconsin. He founded the University of Wisconsin Interactive Advertising scholarship to reward outstanding excellence in this innovative field. Lewis Rothkopf, Vice President, Network Development, BrightRoll: Lewis is charged with broadening BrightRoll’s audience reach and enhancing client value by building strategic partnerships with the web’s top publishers. Prior to joining BrightRoll, lewis was Head of Distribution for the national Broadband Company (NBBC), NBC Universal’s digital video syndication business, where he was responsible for connecting premium digital video owners with the web’s premier publishers. Active in the digital media community for a decade, Lewis spent five years at DoubleClick Inc.’s TechSolutions for Publishers business, most recently as a sales and account management leader. He was at LightningCast Inc., one of the first video advertising companies, as a director of sales for the video ad insertion technology business, where he helped ready the company for acqusition by AOL LLC. In those capacities, he spearheaded technology and media solutions for numerous industry leaders, including AOL, Washington Post, Newsweek Interactive, Disney/ABC, Scripps, Networks, MTV Newworks, CBS Inc., Knight Ridder Digital, United Online, among many others. Lewis holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Boston University and lives in Manhattan with his wife Nicole.

Ben Weinberger, CEO, Digitalsmiths: Ben Weinberger co-founded Digitalsmiths in 1998, and has grown the operation from a two-person college business into a market-leading technology company. Digitalsmiths entered the entertainment industry in 2001 when it introduced its proprietary technology platform, Media Access Pro®, a ground-breaking software platform allowing clients to search massive amounts of film and television content in a simple and methodical way. The technology underlying Media Access Pro has enabled Digitalsmiths to develop Videosense, an innovative system used to create contextual advertising opportunities related to broadband video. Videosense has propelled Digitalsmiths to the cutting edge of online advertising and marketing technology. Weinberger graduated with honors from Southern Illinois University, and serves on the board of directors for the Honors Program at Southern Illinois University.







Roger Barnette, founder & President, SearchIgnite: a leading provider of search management and optimization technology for major marketers and advertising agencies. Mr. Barnette founded SearchIgnite in 2004 and has since grown the company into a major search technology provider managing hundreds of millions in search dollars each year. As President of SearchIgnite, Mr. Barnette drives the vision of the company and leads its aggressive growth and technology leadership. He has extensive experience managing and growing emerging technology businesses and is a veteran of the online marketing industry. Mr. Barnette also co-authors quarterly white papers on the state of the search engines with RBC Capital Markets. These quarterly reports, which measure billions of ad impressions and millions of click across all of the major engines, are followed by the online ad industry and major media for key insights into the state of the search and auction media marketplace.Previously, Mr. Barnette was Founder and CEO of eTour, an Atlanta-based Internet marketing company that was acquired by Ask.com. At eTour, he raised over $52 million in equity financing and grew the company from its inception to 5 million registered users, 400 advertisers and 170 employees in under three years. Mr. Barnette is a frequent guest speaker at search and digital marketing conferences, including Ad:Tech, SES and the Search Insider Summit. He often appears in major media including Advertising Age, MediaPost, Forbes and MediaWeek. He has received numerous awards including the Atlanta Internet Marketer of The Year award and Emory’s Goizueta Business School Outstanding Recent Alumni award. Mr. Barnette received his MBA from Emory University’s Goizueta School of Business and holds a BS in Computer and Electrical Engineering from the University of South Carolina.



Amy Lipton, Director of Global Marketing for IBM’s Digital Media and Media & Entertainment industries, has served with IBM for more than 20 years, helping customers harness the latest emerging technologies, and turning them into competitive business advantages. The division serves all aspects of the exploding digital media marketplace, from traditional broadcast television to emerging communications technologies. Ms. Lipton develops, supervises, and implements IBM’s strategic marketing initiatives across the entire division. In addition to Media and Entertainment, Ms. Lipton has also served as a marketing executive for IBM’s wireless e-business services in the Americas. As such, she was responsible for creating brand leadership for the largest portfolio of wireless services in the market today. Her achievements included the development of market strategy for IBM’s consulting, architecture, integration, and wireless payment initiatives, among others. Ms. Lipton is also well-versed in interactive Web media, thanks to her extensive prior experience developing animated multimedia programs for IBM as well as her own company.
