Personalized Mobile Experience Social Networking: Breakthroughs in Search, Messaging, Entertainment, Video Capabilities & Advertising Mobile communications, as a voice and data network is by definition a social experience, so that it is not a great leap of imagination to see how the future of social networks which engage untold millions of broadband users will naturally migrate to the mobile platform. Staying in touch, as an audio, video, text based as well as a community-based idea is a concept that is only beginning to be addressed and explored. Mobile Next represents the future of what most of our lives are about to be immersed in. Mobile Next is communications, entertainment, commerce as well as exploration. In this session, we will begin to explore the ideas and technologies that will make up that future. Roland Deal, Co-Founder and Vice President Marketing, Roland Deal is the Co-Founder of Kadoink. In this role, Mr. Deal is responsible for leading the companys marketing strategy initiatives and product expansion efforts. Before joining Kadoink, Mr. Deal served as Senior Vice President at Grey Worldwide advertising in San Francisco where he was responsible for managing engagements with several global B2C and B2B firms including SanDisk, McAfee, Experian, WellPoint, Macrovision and Cisco. During his tenure, Mr. Deal spearheaded the development and planning of strategic positioning for clients and was responsible for their integrated marketing communications activities. While at Grey, Mr. Deal directed the launch of the highly successful SanDisk Sansa MP3 player aimed at the Gen Y youth market as well as the branding and market introduction of Tonik, WellPoints first ever insurance product aimed at 19-29 year olds. Previously, Mr. Deal was a Co-Founder of bSource.com which was acquired by Computer Associates in 2005. Prior to bSource.com, Mr. Deal held several senior level positions including Director of Business Development at Desktop.com, Vice President of Marketing for Visible Interactive and Account Director at Saatchi & Saatchi. Mr. Deal has extensive speaking experience and has participated at high-level industry engagements including MIDEM, Under The Radar, Digital Hollywood and The Canadian Music Week conference among others. Mr. Deal holds dual MBA degrees from Columbia University and University of California at Berkeley and a B.S. in Marketing/English from Penn State University.
Dhana Pawar, co-founder & VP of Products for Yojo Mobile: As Co-Founder & VP of Products for Yojo Mobile, Ms Pawar manages the development of Yojo's mobile products. She was responsible for launching Mizpee, one of the most popular location based applications. She was also instrumental in growing MizPee's usage to over 100K members and 1.2 million hits in less than 5 months. Ms Pawar has contributed a wealth of experience in to the wireless industry. She has worked extensively with a list of leading carriers like Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and brands like P&G, Disney, Rand McNally & Toyota. While with Kivera (now TeleCommunication Systems), Ms Pawar was responsible for taking Kiveras traditional Internet business mobile. She successfully conceptualized and launched some of the most successful wireless applications on AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and Alltel decks. Ms Pawar was responsible for managing and developing these carrier relations, as also working closely with partners like Rand McNally, Zagats, IBM & Sun Microsystems. It was owing to the mobile initiatives and applications; Kivera was subsequently acquired by TeleCommunication Systems (TCS). Following Kivera/TCS, her product development skills were put to work as the Senior Product Manager in charge of the BeVocal (now Nuance) voice enabled mobile storefronts. At BeVocal, Ms Pawar developed mobile storefronts for leading carriers with an in-built Intelligent Offer Management engine leading to higher purchases by users. Most recently, as the Director of Products for Limbo 41414, the worlds largest mobile entertainment company, she took on the task of creating strategic product and marketing initiatives, and mobile campaigns for some of the industrys biggest brands. While at Limbo she was responsible for growing the Limbo community from 100K users to over a million members within 8 months. She was also responsible for successful mobile marketing campaigns for Covergirl, P & G, NBC/Bravo, Lifetime Disney, Toyota, Island Def Jam, Sony Music, Mini USA, Vespa USA, Dolce Resort and, Spike TV among others.
Derrick Oien, co-founder and President, Intercasting: Derrick Oien is a seasoned operations executive with an extensive background in entertainment, media and technology. As co-founder and president of Intercasting Corporation, Derrick oversees the companys overall strategic direction, managing product development and negotiating strategic partnerships. Prior to co-founding Intercasting Corporation in March 2004, Oien was President of Vivendi Universal Net USA, a subsidiary of Vivendi Universal that operated MP3.com, Rollingstone.com, eMusic, and Trusonic from December 2001 until April 2003. Previously, he held a variety of positions with companies such as Universal Music Group, Computer Sciences Corporation, BDO Seidman, and Sony Pictures Studios in primarily operations or technology roles.
Rich Begert, CEO, SinglePoint: Rich Begert has been involved with the wireless industry since its infancy. He launched two of the industry's most influential initiatives: the first wireless data network in the U.S. (CDPD) and AT&T's Digital One rate, which dramatically increased wireless usage by eliminating roaming charges. Rich joined McCaw Cellular Communications in 1986 in a marketing position and rose quickly through the organization, first to general manager and later to regional president of the western United States for AT&T Wireless, a role he maintained until his departure in 1998. As president and CEO of ImageX, Rich led the company from private funding to its initial public offering in 1999. Under his leadership, the company completed five acquisitions, and Rich negotiated the company's acquisition by Kinko's, which was acquired by FedEx six months later. Before his tenure at McCaw Cellular, Rich spent nine years at Xerox in various sales and sales management positions. Rich is a 1978 graduate from the University of Washington with a BA in business administration with a marketing emphasis. He currently resides on both the board of trustees and the foundation board for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Families Northwest. Media.
Erik Schwartz, founder, Foneshow: Erik spent 15 years in Silicon Valley at the bleeding edge of the convergence of entertainment and technology. In the late '80s he was an independent developer of interactive videodiscs and CD-ROMs. In the early '90s he was employee number 7 at ICTV, a pioneer in interactive television. He was the product manager for the deployment of one of the first digital video on demand systems that ran on Cox Cable's Omaha, Nebraska system. In early 1997 he went to Yahoo! Inc. where he created the entertainment group. In that role he managed the team that built Yahoo! Movies, Yahoo! TV, Yahoo! Music, Yahoo! Radio and Yahoo! Entertainment. Erik drove the concept and managed the development of Yahoo! Games, the leading online casual games site. When he's not working in technology Erik sails across oceans singlehanded. Erik has more than 10,000 solo miles under sail, including the 2002 and 2004 singlehanded transpacific races and 3 solo transpacific passages. Infrequently you may also find Erik performing on stage in light opera, even more infrequently you may find him directing theatrical productions. Erik, his wife and their three kids live in Bath Maine where they are (slowly) restoring a 157 year old shipbuilding magnate's mansion overlooking the Kennebec River.
Frank S. Riva, Senior Director, Marketing & Business Development, Apptera: As Senior Director of Marketing & Business Development, Frank Riva helps guide the strategic direction and positioning of Appteras MobileAd Technology and closely monitors competitive and industry developments within the Mobile Marketing arena. Mr. Riva possesses over 17 years of sales and marketing experience with an emphasis upon marketing, advertising, and retail technology solutions. Prior to Apptera, he handled worldwide Business Development initiatives for EPCglobal US and directed Product Strategy at QRS Corporation. Mr. Riva holds a B.S. in Business Administration
Steve Bair, Vice President of Business Development, Ad Infuse: Steve Bair served as Jingle Network's Vice President of Business Development, where his responsibilities included negotiating and closing distribution agreements with advertising networks. Steve's efforts significantly contributed to the addition of over 50,000 advertisers to the 1-800-FREE411 platform. Before Jingle, Steve served as eBay's Director of Business Development, Strategic Partnerships. He successfully negotiated and closed deals including HP, IBM, Intel, Sun, AOL, Verisign, Expedia and Sprint. Before eBay, Steve held management positions at Buy.com, Microsoft, Meredith Corporation and Saatchi & Saatchi. Steve earned his undergraduate degree from WVU and his Master's degree from Pepperdine University.
