Advertising Innovation! Broadband, OnDemand, In-Game, Social Networks, RSS, Blogs, PODs & Mobile Advertising is finally discovering and finding its way into the next generation of technology media and entertainment industries. Broadband, mobile, IPTV, cable and interactive TV and of course in games, ads and branded information are being delivered in many forms. The technologies behind ad-insertion, ad serving, on-demand technologies and a full host of back-end management technologies are enabling greater creativity and enhanced options in the relationship between technology and advertising. In this session, we will open an ongoing conversation of how technologies are evolving, where they are heading and how the advertising and branding industries will gain further technology traction. Carolyn Everson, Executive Vice President, Strategy and Operations, U.S. Ad Sales, MTV Networks: Carolyn Everson is Executive Vice President of Strategy and Operations for U.S. Ad Sales for MTV Networks. In her role, Everson oversees strategic planning, operations and finance for MTVNs multi-billion dollar U.S. Ad Sales department. She reports to Hank Close, President, U.S. Ad Sales, MTVN. Everson oversees MTVN's domestic ad sales strategy, business development and commercial operations. Everson also helps shape MTVN U.S. Ad Sales' organizational design, plan and implement talent recruitment initiatives, and select technologies and solutions that allow MTVN to better serve its marketing partners. The finance arm of MTVN U.S. Ad Sales reports to Everson and Jacques Tortoroli, EVP and CFO, MTVN. Everson joined MTVN in 2003 as Director, mtvU Ad Sales, and has been a key architect of the structure of MTV Networks U.S. Ad Sales division. Under her guidance, mtvU tripled its ad sales business to take its place among Viacoms fastest growing businesses. In 2006, her responsibilities were expanded to include MTV, MTV2 and MTV.com in addition to mtvU, and she gained oversight of $100 million in revenue for MTV Networks most iconic brand. For her consistently outstanding performance, she was awarded the MTV Networks Ad Sales Presidents Award in 2006. Everson also served as SVP, Ad Sales Strategy and Business Development for MTVN, where she led strategic planning and evaluation of deals for emerging new advertising opportunities across MTVNs multiplatform portfolio of well-renown brands. Before joining MTVN, Everson worked at Primedia Inc., where she was vice president and general manager of several digital businesses, including Seventeen.com and ModernBride.com. Everson has also held new business development positions at brands including Zagat Survey and Walt Disney Imagineering. Everson holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a B.A. in Liberal Arts and Communication from Villanova University.
Irene Gustaitis, SVP Media & Entertainment, NeuroFocus, Inc. For the last 13 years, Irene has worked in the custom research field with clients who represent businesses in entertainment, consumer packaged goods and the education sector. She currently works for NeuroFocus, the Nation's leading company in neurological research that measures brain wave response to programming, messaging and advertising. Before NeuroFocus, Irene worked for The Nielsen Company where she led a team of Market Research Directors who managed both quantitative and qualitative custom studies for broadcast and cable television studios. She completed her undergraduate studies at UCLA as a Pre-Med/English Literature major and received her M.B.A. from Pepperdine University's Graziadio School of Business. Professional memberships include Market Research Association (SoCal President), American Marketing Association, Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing, Advertising Research Foundation and Step Up Women's Network.
Alicia Morga, CEO, Consorte Media: a leading online marketing firm targeting the Hispanic market. Prior to founding Consorte Media, Alicia was an investment professional focused on venture opportunities in the technology sector for The Carlyle Group's U.S. Venture Fund. She also worked at Hummer Winblad Venture Partners, where she focused on early-stage software investments. While at Hummer Winblad, Alicia served as VP of Operations for Napster and CEO of venture fund Zero Gravity Internet Group. Alicia has served on the boards of technology companies such as Ingenio, Ventaso, Secure Elements, Archetype-Solutions, Applied Semantics, Menerva Technologies and Discovercast. Alicia has also been a corporate attorney for Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. She started her career as an investment banker at Goldman, Sachs & Co. Alicia holds a J.D. from Stanford Law School and a B.A. from Stanford University. Alicia has been widely recognized for her new approach to bringing stringent methodology to Hispanic online advertising. She was recently named one of the 100 Most Influential Latinos of Silicon Valley by the Mexican American Community Services Agency, was Hispanic-Net Entrepreneur of the Year, appeared in Inc. Magazine and was profiled in the March 2008 issue of Fast Company. She has been invited to speak at SES New York, Toronto and San Jose, Ad:Tech New York, The National Association of Hispanic Publishers Annual Convention and several other leading industry events. She is also profiled in the new book: Building the Latino Future: Success Stories for the Next Generation, published by Wiley and Sons.
Jennifer Black, Vice President, Marketing, Local.com: Jennifer Black has more than 15 years of experience in online and offline marketing, strategic planning, business development and e-commerce promotion. Her primary responsibilities include search engine marketing and optimization, promotion, branding, public relations, industry relations and corporate communications. Well-connected within the Internet business community, Black is often quoted among industry leaders, is a highly sought-after speaker having appeared at the Web 2.0 Expo, OMMA Hollywood and other industry events, and is active in several leading professional organizations. She was honored as a finalist for the 2007 Orange County High Tech Woman of the Year. Black was previously with Autobytel where she was instrumental in driving traffic and monetizing partnerships throughout the company's network of websites. During her tenure, she was responsible for spearheading traffic partnership deals with America Online, United Online and Earthlink. Prior to Autobytel, Black held senior marketing and strategic planning positions at Teleflora and Overstock.com. She holds a B.A. in Business Management from the University of Utah.
Mike Fitzsimmons, CEO, Delivery Agent: As Delivery Agent's founder and CEO, Mike Fitzsimmons has developed and commercialized the only multi-media platform that connects viewers with products SeenON! and related to their favorite television shows, movies, sports, and music videos. Under his leadership, Delivery Agent has become the leader in shopping-enabled programming for renowned content producers and distributors such as ABC, NBC, Fox, E! Networks and MTVN and was recently recognized as one of the "Hot 100 Companies" in the US by Price Waterhouse and Entrepreneur Magazine. Prior to founding Delivery Agent, Mr. Fitzsimmons led Product Marketing and Business Development for Something Now, Inc., which was acquired by CNET Networks in 2001. At Something Now, Mr. Fitzsimmons developed the industry's first synchronized e-commerce application that enabled real-time promotion of related consumer electronics products and services online. Before his work at Something Now, Mr. Fitzsimmons was a member of Circuit City Stores, Inc. Corporate Development and Direct Response Divisions, where his group brought in annual revenue in excess of $550 million. Additionally, he managed the company's start-up initiatives for their catalog, direct-mail and outbound call centers. Other Circuit City businesses from which Mr. Fitzsimmons has added to his product marketing and management expertise include: Circuitcity.com, CarMax, Circuit City Direct and DIVX. A recognized expert on e-commerce and convergence, Mr. Fitzsimmons has recently been featured in the Wall Street Journal, ABC News, Forbes, The London Times, Madison and Vine, Reuters, The Hollywood Reporter, The BBC, CNN/Money and Variety and on Branded Entertainment panels including The Media and Entertainment Forum and Ad Tech. A native of Virginia, Mr. Fitzsimmons is a graduate of Hampden Sydney College with a Degree in Economics.
Dan Adler, Founder and CEO, Fanista.com: a pioneering effort that allows artists and entertainment brands to engage a pre-qualified audience made up of passionate entertainment enthusiasts, prolific entertainment reviewers and creative connectors who have reach and authentic influence. His career has been defined by his ability to cross multiple disciplines and cultures, helping to develop businesses and drive synergies across different industries. He is recognized as a pioneer in the integration of talent and technology, a niche he began carving out back in 1991, when his visits to The MIT Media Lab, Apple, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Intel and other places led to his traveling the country to engage A-level talent in the media marketplace. Over the years, he has managed to work across the film, music, television and gaming industries, and has complemented that with CEO-level relationships across Fortune 100 companies. Dan has worked across the film, music, television and gaming industries including stints as head of the New Media division at Creative Artists Agency and as Vice President of Creative Development for Walt Disney Imagineering. Adler began his Hollywood career in classic fashion in the CAA mailroom. From there, he spent nearly 10 years as an agent where he worked closely with then-CAA Chairman Michael Ovitz.
