Video on a PDA is here, but what does that mean in the race to bring wireless video to the market as a whole. Wireless broadband is definitely the killer app that will spawn a transformation of every digital device, from the PDA and cellphone to the at home PC. What can we expect in the transition to broadband wireless? What services can we expect to see and what relationships will likely emerge between the media companies, content companies and the device or networking companies? In this session, we will take a three year look at the delivery of video into the mobile. Thomas Sulzer, founder and CEO, MoodLogic Richard Doherty, CEO, The Envisioneering Group, Moderator Ed Valdez, Director of Marketing, Wireless and Mobile Systems Division, Motorola: E d Valdez joined Motorola in 1991 and is director of marketing for the Wireless and Mobile Systems Division (WMSD) in Motorola. WMSD provides wireless platform solutions for cellular phones, PDAs, two-way radios and smart messaging products. Each system solution includes chipsets, reference designs, software, development tools and other key technologies for the wireless portable and multimedia markets worldwide. Valdez is a recognized wireless industry spokesperson. Recent speaking engagements include "The Technology Challenge For 3G Wireless Systems" at the Wireless OEM Executive Summit, "Exploring the Future, Emerging Markets" at PCIA 2001 (upcoming), "Solutions for a Connected World," at Motorolas press club, "Motorolas Wireless and Mobile Platform Strategy," at Motorolas Financial Analyst Trade Show 2001. Prior to joining Motorola, Valdez has held positions in product management, product engineering and technical marketing at IBM and AMD with international experience. He received a B.S.E.E. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and holds an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin.Nitin J. Shah, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Internet Products Group, ArrayComm: Executive Vice President and General Manager, Internet Products Group: Nitin joined ArrayComm in January, 2000 from Lucent Technologies, where he was Vice President in charge of Wireless Internet Applications for the Wireless Networks Group. Nitin is driving the development and rollout of i-BURST, ArrayComm's recently announced broadband wireless Internet technology. Over the past few years, Nitin has overseen the development of a fixed Wireless Internet Access System (WIAS), as well as the development of the technologies for packet networking and radio access systems for the evolution of Second Generation wireless systems and the emerging Third Generation mobile systems. He completed his Ph.D. in Microelectronic Engineering at Cambridge University in England, and holds a B.A in Natural Sciences. Nitin was named one of Wireless Week's Top 50 Newsmakers of 2000. Simon Wegerif is the General Manager of the Business Line Media Processing at Philips Semiconductors, one of the world's > largest semiconductor suppliers. Based in Sunnyvale, CA, Mr. Wegerif is responsible for Philips Semiconductors' innovative TriMedia VLIW processor solutions, providing media processing, coding & decoding for a wide range of streaming formats. These solutions enable manufacturers to quickly design complex, cost-effective infotainment applications for use in cars, LCD TVs, web PADs and other internet streaming appliances Mr. Wegerif joined Philips Semiconductors in the UK as a designer and project leader for the TV receiver signal processing and broadcast data programs. Prior to his work at Philips Semiconductors, Mr. Wegerif spent six years in engineering research and development at the BBC where he designed the BBC's first chip that enabled an all digital broadcast chain. For this work he was jointly awarded two patents. Throughout the past few years, Mr. Wegerif has been selected to present Consumer Systems' position in the digital television market at industry tradeshows, including the Windows Hardware Electronics Conference (WinHEC) in Los Angeles and Asia, and the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Conference in Las Vegas. Mr. Wegerif earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Sussex, in the UK. Anttoni Vesterinen, CEO, oplayo: Anttoni Vesterinen joined oplayo in June 2000, wit h the goal to lead the innovative high-tech company with growth potential to the international market. His background is in international sales and operations management in the technology sector. Prior to joining oplayo, Anttoni Vesterinen worked for Cognex Inc. where he was sales director, SISD, Europe and South East Asia. Before Cognex, Mr. Vesterinen worked eight years for Measurex Oy in Finland, and then two more years with Honeywell-Measurex, Inc. in Singapore, where he advanced to Vice President, Asia Pacific Field Operations. Born in Finland, Anttoni Vesterinen has lived and worked in several countries. He holds a masters degree in engineering and eMBA from the Helsinki University of Technology. He is married with two children.Thomas Sulzer, founder and CEO, MoodLogic: Founder and CEO Thomas Sulzer is a vi sionary and passionate entrepreneur with more than 15 years in executive management, strategic marketing, and technology management experience in both startups and Fortune 500 companies. Sulzer founded MoodLogic in 1999, and has led the company to be one of the few remaining independent online music companies. Prior to founding MoodLogic, Sulzer led a successful repositioning of the $150 million Concord and Movado Watch companies, effectively quadrupling the company's stock value. Previously, he co-founded Swiss Investment Graphics, a provider of online financial data and charting software for Swiss financial institutions. Sulzer also controls a private equity firm in Switzerland, and serves on the board of several European companies. Sulzer started his career as a systems control engineer in robotics. Sulzer has a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering, and has completed several executive programs at IMI and Wharton Business School. He is an alumnus of the Young Presidents Organization |
