And that is the job of the DRM technology industry, to make the film, music and mobile technology delivery systems safe for mass use. In this session, we will explore, from the point of view of the technology companies, the possibilities and potential of DRM in the evolving content landscape. From CDs and DVDs to broadband and wireless delivery, DRM and content protection represents the bottom line of the future of our industries. Janet Snowdon, Business Development Manager, IBM Digital Media Group Katherine L Parker, Global Business Development Manager, Media & Entertainment Industry Sales, Sun Microsystems, Inc., Moderator Robert Fransdonk, Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Entriq: Robert Fransdonk conceived the idea of a service for facilitating and securing Pay Media over the Internet while at Irdeto Access, a conditional access company based in The Netherlands. He founded Entriq in 2000 as the platform-agnostic solution to control and track Internet content. The architecture is based on several patents filed by Robert Fransdonk that describe the secure process of authorizing content in a distributed environment with multiple content and service providers. Fransdonk has a wealth of Pay Media experience, having worked with Irdeto Access for over seven years. While there, he led the technical realization of many large Pay Media platforms, including CANAL+, Tele+, Stream, Multichoice, Shinawatra and Galaxy (Austar). Robert Fransdonk holds a Master's degree in computer science from the University of Amsterdam. He began his career in 1993 at Mindport Irdeto Access, the world leader in conditional access technology for analog and digital networks. Robert Fransdonk has been awarded several patents in the field of content security, and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences. Chris Parkerson, DRM Evangelist, RSA Security: Chris Parkerson is the DRM Evangelist at RSA Security. In his role, Chris is responsible for market strategy for RSA DRM solutions. Chris has worked with several pioneering companies in data integration, content management, and Web Services technology prior to joining RSA. He has worked as a product manager for two Valley start-ups including Vianeta Communications which provides XML-based solutions for health information management and Ipedo which provides XML-based solutions for content and data integration and management. Prior to the move to the West, Chris was a product manager for eXcelon Corp. where he was responsible for the first XML database, XIS, and first XML application development environment, Stylus Studio, on the market. Chris has spoken at numerous industry events including Digital Hollywood, the RSA Conference, Jupiter Content Management Conference, and numerous XML and Web Services technology events. Chris graduated from Boston University with a BS in Computer Systems Engineering.Pallavi Shah, Digital Rights Management Strategist, Hewlett-Packar d: Pallavi Shah is industry recognized thought leader, spokesperson and champion in digital media and rights management. She has led cross-functional alliances and global teams to bring advanced media technologies to market for the last 12 years. She is responsible for HPs Digital Rights Management strategy for Digital Entertainment business since 2004. Prior to HP, Pallavi was Sr. Market Segment Manager for Sun and was responsible for recruiting and managing strategic partners in the streaming and rich media infrastructure market. She chaired ISO's MPEG4-Java standards group and formed multi-company alliances. Prior to Sun, Ms Shah was with the Sarnoff Corporation (RCA research lab). She represented the HDTV Grand Alliance during the development of HDTV and pioneered the world's first E-Commerce application of interactive HDTV at NAB-95. She has served as a panelist/speaker at over 50 industry conferences and published papers. She has two patents in the architecture of interactive digital media. She holds M.S. from Utah State University and B.S from University of Pune, India.Carter Laren, Senior Security Architect, Cryptography Research: Carter Laren is Cryptography Research's technical liaison to Hollywood studios, content owners and consumer electronics manufacturers. Affectionately referred to as the "Anti-Pirate," he has extensive experience designing and evaluating secure communication and pay-television systems, tamper resistant devices, and content protection technology. Prior to joining Cryptography Research, Carter designed secure communication systems for both commercial and classified government applications. As a Weapon Systems Engineer at Lockheed Martin, he also designed and tested critical components of the AEGIS Combat System. Carter holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, where he was awarded the elite Chancellor's Scholarship.Rajan Samtani, Director, Sales & Marketing, ContentGuard: As the Dire ctor of Sales & Marketing at ContentGuard, Inc., Rajan Samtani is responsible for all market-facing activities, including marketing, PR and customer engagements. Before ContentGuard, Rajan was a founder of TheDealerNetwork, Inc., a B-2-B exchange in the personal computer industry. Prior to that he was VP of Sales and Marketing at REAL Software Systems, the leading application software vendor dealing with business rights and royalties in the entertainment, media, publishing and software markets. Rajan has a BA in Economics from UCLA and has taken several executive education courses at the Wharton school of Business.Janet Snowdon, Business Development Manager, IBM Digital Media Group: Janet Snowdon, Business Development Manager, IBM Digital Media Group, is responsible for the development of IBM's strategy for content protection, including building on-going alliances with target companies within the content distribution area. Prior to her current position, Snowdon was responsible for Solution Sales for IBM Media and Entertainment Industry. Since joining IBM in 1983, Snowdon has held a variety of sales, marketing and engineering positions within IBMs consumer electronics, transportation, manufacturing and telecommunications industries. A graduate of University of California, Davis, Snowdon earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. She has completed IBM Presidents class and International Presidents class and received numerous sales awards and recognition from clients. Snowdon has also been awarded IBM Presidents award for her work with semiconductors. Katherine L. Parker, Global Business Development Manager, Media & Entertainment Industry Sales, Sun Microsystems Inc.: Katherine is responsible for solutions initiatives in digital asset management and digital distribution across broadcast, film,cable, online media and publishing sectors at Sun. In her current role she manages worldwide go-to-market activities with leading vendors and customers. Earlier at Sun, she developed strategy and roadmaps for Sun in media, entertainment and publishing markets. Additionally, Katherine was a member of Sun's web services software organization, specializing in Digital Identity solutions. Ms. Parker is a recognized market expert in driving B2B adoption of digital asset management and distribution technologies and a frequent presenter at NAB, Digital Hollywood/ CES, and Jupiter DRM Conference. She also serves as VP, Chapter Development for the Global Society for Asset Management (G-SAM), and is author of the G-SAM DAM Report.Reed Stager is the vice president of Corporate Licensing, Marketing and Public Policy for Digimarc Corp. In this role, Mr. Stager leads Digimarcs strategic alliance and licensing relationships with entertainment, consumer electronic and information technology companies, and standard-setting bodies around the world as well as directs Digimarcs state, federal and international policy activities regarding copyright protection and media distribution. Mr. Stager serves as a board member to the Oregon Regional Alliance for Infrastructure & Network Security (RAINS) and is also chairman of the Government Affairs Committee of the Document Security Alliance (DSA), which is a public/private partnership of 15 federal agencies and more than 60 companies focused on improving document security. Mr. Stager has spoken about and worked extensively on digital media distribution, content protection and digital watermarking issues involving music, movies and digital images. Mr. Stager has more than 20 years of executive and management experience in high-technology and security companies and holds an M.B.A. from Portland State University and a B.S. in business from Lewis and Clark College. |
