Telcos, IPTV & the Technology Food Chain: From the Broadband Infrastructure to the Headend, ITV Services and the Set-Top
The technology behind the introduction of the IPTV system provides a unique group of products and services. In this session we will take a look at the entire foodchain of hardware and software that is being developed in this rollout. From the broadband technology that connects the global networks and the home, the headend servers and services to the set-top options, the IPTV system will have access into millions of homes. IPTV may well become the broadband backbone to the entire country. In this session we will find out what that future looks like and what it will take to make it happen.

Keith Kocho is President and CEO of ExtendMedia, a company he founded in 1991 that has become one of the world's leading software providers for the digital content and media industry. Keith is a graduate of the Radio and Television Program at Ryerson University. ExtendMedia is a leading provider of software solutions to the digital content and media industry. For nearly 15 years, we have worked with such industry leaders as ESPN, WWE, HBO, Cablevision, Sony, BCE, MTS, and Tribune to help them drive revenues and retain customers by delivering intuitive content and communication services.








Bo Ferm, general manager, The Americas, Irdeto Access: Bo Ferm joined Irdeto Access in 2003 in San Diego as a general manager, The Americas. Prior to Irdeto, Bo was with Philips Electronics for 25 years, most recently with Digital Networks for eight years in various management positions for the MPEG-2 systems activity, set-top box group and content protection unit. Prior to that he had several international postings with Philips: six years in Hong Kong as software manager for Asia Pacific, three years in Kuala Lumpur as senior consultant, two and a half years in Los Angeles as marketing director for the In-Flight Entertainment unit and two years in Mexico with Philips Data Systems. A native of Sweden, he holds a BS in mathematics and computer science.

Fadi Malak is Business Development Manager for Harmonic Inc. and has been focusing on Harmonic’s next generation compression systems. Mr. Malak has written several white papers and has evangelized Harmonic's technical and commercial positions at industry conferences around the world. Prior to his role in Business Development, he was Product Marketing Manager for Harmonic’s industry leading MPEG-2 encoder product line. Prior to joining Harmonic, he worked at USWeb as a Multimedia Technology Analyst , and for Apple Computers where he represented Apple at the DVD Forum. Mr. Malak also serves as a representative of the MPEG-4 Industry Forum, and the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers’ DVS New Video Technologies group.



Allan MCLENNAN Managing Director PUREMAC ADVANCED DIGITAL MEDIA: Allan McLennan is a key figure in the IP/iTV entertainment sector. A multi-faceted senior marketing and business development executive with proven global success as an experienced start-up to corporate senior executive with integration, merger and acquisition experience. Founding PUREMAC DIGITAL in the later part of 2001, McLennan and produced some of the most compelling projects over the last few years. Some of the projects include: MPEG4 five year global forecast; Brazilian market expansion plan for leading US-based telecommunications corporation; MipTV / Milia international iTV / digital media awards 2003 / 04; and a Music video-on-demand cable network. Prior to founding PMD he was engaged as the interim EVP Marketing, Business Development & Sales for Lumenati/NetTV where under his leadership the company developed key strategic relationships with technology and licensing partners for advanced residential media management centers for IP/iTV. McLennan was instrumental in bringing together and repositioning the company's four convergence product lines and brands into one that focused together on immediately providing revenue solutions for network operators such as DSL service providers, cable MSOs and DBS operators. As EVP he was responsible for the global positioning and marketing of Lumenati's interactive television applications and advanced home media center solutions and to that end managed several departments including hardware and software product marketing, marketing communications, business development and sales. Prior to Lumenati/NetTV, McLennan was a driving force behind Media Station, Inc.'s transition from the software development sector to the pioneering broadband provider of on-demand games, entertainment, education and productivity software. McLennan, joined Media Station in 1997 and was co-creator and responsible for developing the strategic direction, strategic alliances and the market awareness that accelerated the worldwide deployment of the company's SelectPlay subscription service. As Senior Vice President, Strategic Market Development, McLennan was instrumental in shaping the growth not only of Media Station and SelectPlay, but of the broadband on-demand media sector as a whole.

Scott Newnam, President and CEO, GoldPocket: As President and CEO of GoldPocket Interactive, Scott Newnam drives the company’s strategy and overall vision. He is a recognized expert in building efficient and strategic organizations and the economics and development of nascent industries, specifically iTV. Newnam has a proven track record of identifying and implementing technology trends in emerging industries. Under his direction, GoldPocket has attained 75% market share and produced more than 6,000 hours of iTV programming for shows including CSI, Friends, Greed, and Survivor. Before founding GoldPocket, Newnam was Treasurer at IAC, a billion-dollar, publicly traded company based in Southern California. Prior to serving as Treasurer, he ran the company’s Corporate Finance and Strategic Planning group and was responsible for design and implementation of its information technology strategy. Newnam has also founded and managed a private hedge fund that consistently outperformed the market. Before that he worked in the Corporate Finance Group at Merrill Lynch in New York, covering private equity and technology companies. Newnam is the Chairman of the Board of GoldPocket Interactive and has been on the board of several privately held companies. He has been featured in the Wall Street Journal and has appeared on Good Morning America, CNN, CNNfn, MSNBC, and other technology news programs. He regularly speaks at major media and technology events and conferences. Newnam has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Economics from Davidson College.
