| Friday, April 1st 11:05 AM - 12:20 PM Track II: Technology Infrastructure for the Delivery of Broadband Entertainment As we settle into a ubiquitous broadband universe, the delivery of entertainment, information and communication services to the consumer requires an ever growing and scalable technological infrastructure. Without the development and enhancement of broadband technologies, the entire future of the entertainment industry will be in question. Creating the new "Digital Hollywood" is not possible without the framework to support the structure itself. The products and services that will redefine technology require an infrastructure capable of supporting bandwidth intensive applications. Much of it is here today, but just as much is to come. In this session we will explore the capabilities of the systems in place, understand what kind of content we can deliver, as well as investigate what alternatives the production community has in reaching its marketplace. Kris Alexander, Director of Media and Entertainment Solutions, Akamai Bill Keating, CEO, Xtend Networks Troy Snyder, President and CEO, Nine Systems S.V. S.V. Vasudevan, Vice President, Systems Engineering and Chief Architect, BigBand Networks: S.V. Vasudevan ("Vasu"), Vice President of Systems Engineering and Chief Architect for BigBand Networks, is an SCTE member experienced in working with digital video and high-speed networking technologies. An electrical engineering graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, Vasu began his career at 3Com designing networking adapters. At that time, 10BASE-T, the first commercial implementation of twisted-pair Ethernet, was just emerging from IEEE standardization, and would later help catalyze the rapid global proliferation of IP communications. Vasu also worked at portable networking pioneer Xircom, developing a prototype and first generation wireless adapter that years later would later become standardized and popularly known as 802.11 or Wi-Fi. Vasu joined video compression startup DiviCom during its first year of operation to work on a then-emerging digital television technology called MPEG-2. He co-designed one of the first broadcast MPEG-2 encoders and remultiplexers, and developed the first commercial product to carry MPEG-2 transport over ATM networks. He also led the design of the first encoder in a highly-integrated 1RU form factor. Vasu later joined DiviCom's highly-renowned Professional Services group as a systems architect, working with R&D and 3rd party subsystem vendors on open solutions for worldwide digital television deployments. As Chief Architect for BigBand Networks, Vasu leverages his pioneering experiences in both networking and digital video. His responsibilities are to apply BigBand's flexible and powerful Broadband Multimedia-Service Router (BMR), Broadband Multimedia-Service Edge (BME) and Cuda CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System) platforms to develop solutions that serve today's needs and tomorrow's possibilities. Cuda was recently added to BigBand Networks offerings through the companys acquisition of the IP Cable business unit from ADC Telecommunications. Vasu plays a leading role in defining and evangelizing how the companys broadband multimedia and CMTS offerings converge towards the development of the industrys first triple-play platforms that optimize across video, voice and data services. He is also responsible for engineering qualification and integration of BigBand products, providing him perspective and involvement in current real-world deployments while he architects future solutions. Vasu represents BigBand networks in numerous technology standardization committees, and has several patents awarded or pending in the area of compressed media networking technologies. He has authored several published technical papers and has been an invited speaker at many industry conferences. Troy Snyder is the president and CEO of Nine Systems.
