Just as Internet shopping is now a fully embraced consumer experience, the bar code, short code, marketing-advertising value-chain will find its way into the everyday use of the technology. The entertainment industry is the natural partner in the mobile retail consumer experience. From ticket sales and music sales to promotions and brand extensions for advertising partners, the entertainment and mobile industries are natural partners in the excursion into mobile retailing. In this session we will explore the consumer acceptance timeline, the technological advances which will impact growth, to the partnering groups necessary to make this sector of the industry evolve. Chung Liu, Chief Technology Officer, and Vice President of Engineering, ACCESS Systems America Dale (Ty) Roberts, Chief Technology Officer, Gracenote Carles Guillot, Business Development Director, MobileWay Koji Ono, Senior Vice President of Strategic Alliances, NTT DoCoMo USA Shawn Conahan, President, Conahan Consulting, Moderator Additional speakers to be announced Dale (Ty) Roberts, Chief Technology Officer, Gracenote: Ty Roberts is wi dely recognized as one of the inventors of enhanced CD technology and is accredited with producing the industrys first enhanced CDs. He joined Gracenote in November of 1998 after the company acquired ION, a multimedia and music technology company that he founded in 1993. Roberts serves as Gracenotes chief technology strategist, providing technology direction and overseeing the creation of products and services that leverage the power of the Gracenote database to deliver information services. While at ION, Roberts produced the recording industrys first enhanced audio CD titles, including David Bowies "Jump" and "Headcandy" from Brian Eno. He was the companys lead technologist and innovator in adding multimedia content to traditional audio CDs. ION was also widely recognized as a leading provider of enhanced CD production tools utilized by recording and multimedia development companies. In September 1993, Bertlesmann Music Group created the first interactive record label after acquiring a 50 percent interest in ION. Prior to founding ION, Roberts was a founder and senior manager of LightSource, a software development company that produced multimedia and graphics editing software. Previously, he was a senior engineer at Pixar, where he created several award winning, Apple-based music applications including "Studio Session" and "Jam Session." Roberts is Gracenotes representative to the Secure Digital Music Initiative (SDMI), organization that is chartered with establishing standards for digital music and music playing devices. Well-known within the music industry community, Roberts has spoken at numerous conferences and events, including CES, Digital Hollywood, Plug-In and ISMIR.Koji Ono is Senior Vice President of Strategic Alliances, based at th e NTT DoCoMo USA Office in New York. NTT DoCoMo USA is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTT DoCoMo, the largest wireless carrier in Japan and the first to introduce 3G mobile service based on W-CDMA technology. Currently, Mr. Ono is responsible for developing strategic alliances in the field of mobile multimedia contents and applications. Before joining NTT DoCoMo, Mr. Ono worked at Mitsubishi Electric Corporation in Japan, France, and North America. In France and North America, he was the Executive Vice President of the Mobile Communication Research and Development Department in charge of the development of handsets to be used in satellite communications. Also, he played a leading role in the creation of a consortium with Nokia, Ericsson, and Nortel regarding GSM/GPRS networks and handsets, and developed strategic relationships with over 40 European carriers. Mr. Ono received a masters degree in Engineering from Waseda University and a master of computer science from Syracuse University.Chung Liu, Chief Technology Officer, and Vice President of Engineerin g, ACCESS Systems America, Before joining ACCESS Systems America, Chung Liu was Master Architect at Palm Inc., where he defined the overall architectural solutions for wireless services for the MyPalm mobile portal. Prior to Palm, Chung worked as a Senior Systems Analyst for Maxitel (Telecom Italia Mobile) in Brazil. Earlier in his career, he held senior engineering positions at Geoworks and Claris Corporation. While at Geoworks, Chung was responsible for the architectural design and software project management of communication modules for the GEOS-SC operating system. Chung Liu holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley.Shawn Conahan, Conahan Consulting, is former president of Moviso LLC, a subsidiary of Vivendi Uni versal Net USA and the leading provider of mobile media products and services in North America. Since April 2000, Moviso content has been distributed in 85 countries, with 90 million content downloads and more than 12 million wireless customers worldwide. With leadership in key areas for wireless industry growth, Moviso is driving and supplying demand for wireless media and entertainment. An expert in emerging technologies with an extensive background in the wireless industry and worldwide product marketing, Shawn defines and drives the vision at Moviso, focusing on delivering the highest quality content, widest distribution and innovative technologies that advance the wireless industry. Prior to joining Moviso, Shawn was vice president and head of the mobile division at MP3.com, where he defined next-generation mobile applications to increase the value of the company's content and technology to its partners in the wireless arena. In addition, Shawn spent years at Universal Music Group, Gartner Group and Warner Group consulting firms. Shawn received his degree in Business Administration from California State Northridge University in 1992. |
