While the developing relationship between the consumer and content provider may be dependant on platforms, technology, standards and gateways, the goalposts are now in full view. And most importantly, the consumer is ready to embrace the relationship, both as participant and paying customer. In fact, the resistance of the consumer to mobile add-on fees has easily out-paced the early barriers experienced by the first generation broadband content pay packages. In this session we will explore the mobile entertainment experience, from product packages to the advertainment and branding experience. Joyce Schwarz, Author & founder, JCOM, Moderator Additional speaker to be announced Adam Flick, Director of Marketing, Sony Pictures Mobile: Adam Flick brings over 11 years of new media management experience with a focus on successfully bridging media properties with new distribution platforms - spanning video game development to mobile entertainment distribution. As Director of Marketing for Sony Pictures Mobile, Adam is responsible for all aspects of marketing Sony Pictures' mobile products and services; including consumer, partner and product marketing. Adam's team is also responsible for leading product management and the creative development and lifecycle of Sony Pictures' mobile products. Most recently, Adam was the senior producer and manager at AT&T Wireless, responsible for the consumer user experience and promotions for mMode, ATTWS' consumer data service. Prior to that he served as Vice President of New Platforms for AtomShockwave, a leading online entertainment company comprised of AtomFilms and Shockwave.com, where he successfully managed the company's mobile entertainment and new platform strategy, distribution and marketing. Adam has also held positions at Getty Images, where he was the Director of Product Development and Strategic Alliances. Prior to that experience, Adam was a games producer for Hal America, a Nintendo licensee. Andy Volanakis, Senior Vice President, Business Development, Zingy: As Senior Vice President, Business Development, Andy Volanakis oversees all new business initiatives for Zingy's global operations. Prior to joining Zingy Andy served as General Manager over Sprint's key premium content businesses. In this role Andy built one of the most successful wireless content businesses in the U.S. and launched a series of U.S. industry firsts including Licensed Master Recording Ringtones, Voice Ringtones, Animated Ringtones and the U.S.'s first Streaming Music Subscription Service. Before joining Sprint Andy held positions at BBDO Worldwide and Grey Global Group and oversaw key clients including Visa U.S.A. and The Procter & Gamble Company. Andy holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Georgetown University and studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Greg Ballard, Chief Executive Officer, Sorrent: Over his distinguished c areer in the gaming, entertainment and multimedia industries, Mr. Ballard served as CEO at SONICblue, makers of ReplayTV and Rio digital music players; MyFamily.com, a successful subscription-based Internet service; and 3Dfx where, over a three-year period, he grew the company from $4 million to an annualized rate of more than $400 million. He previously served as CEO and COO for Warner Custom Music, a Division of Time Warner, Inc. Mr. Ballard was also president of Capcom Software, the U.S. subsidiary known for hits such as Street Fighter, Mega-Man and Resident Evil, as well as COO and CFO of Digital Pictures, a leading video game developer for Sega CD. Mr. Ballard currently sits on the board of directors for THQ (NASDAQ: THQI) and Pinnacle Systems (NASDAQ: PCLE). He holds a B.A. from the University of Redlands and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.Joyce A. Schwarz is an author/speaker/consultant and one of the leaders i n the emerging entertainment and media arena. She heads JCOM, a new product launch and branding consulting firm located in Marina Del Rey, California. Joyce has created marketing and advertising campaigns for more than 100 consumer and B2B technologies and products ranging from emusic.com to projects for Philips, France Telecom & AT&T. She combines more than 20 years experience in advertising and marketing for international ad agencies such as Foote Cone & Belding with a masters degree in film from USC and extensive production experience in film, television, video and interactive. She wrote "Reinventing Hollywood" for the NAB in 1992 and then co-wrote "Multimedia: Gateway to the Next Millennium" in 1993, "How to Break Into the New Hollywood" in 1995. Her latest book is "Cutting the Cord: Guide to Going Wireless" Que Publishing, June 2002. Schwarz is well known as a business writer and colu! mnist for more than 150 articles in such publications as: Business 2.0, Conferenza, Digitrends.net, 'Christian Science Monitor", 'Sales and Marketing' (SAM), LA Times and more. She was the chair and organizer for the first Paris, France Internet/ITV conference from 1995-1997, Digital Day LA , 1993-1996 and is a popular keynote speaker at such conferences as the Invention Convention and the San Diego Computer Fair. She specializes in developing partnerships and alliances for emerging entertainment and new technologies.Tricia Han, Vice-President, Product Development. Vindigo: Tricia Han led the team that designed, built and launched one of the first truly successful, consumer applications for mobile devices, Vindigo® www.vindigo.com City Guide, which has won more than twenty awards, has been downloaded by more than 1 million people and proved that there is a compelling business model for mobile applications and services in the U.S. Recognizing that the coming generation of mobile phones, powered by technologies such as BREW and Java, would allow developers to create and sell thousands of useful, entertaining, and powerful applications for consumers, Tricia and her team built a dozen new consumer applications for the mobile phone market in the space of a few months, including MapQuest Mobile, The New York Times Mobile, and Mobile Vibe Magazine. Vindigo Studios went on to accept the "Best Use of BREW" award from Qualcomm and Vindigo Studios is now one of the best-known and most experienced developers and publishers of information and entertainment applications for mobile phones on every major wireless carrier in the U.S. Deloitte and Touche recently recognized the company as a "Rising Star" for its rapid revenue growth.Peter Mauro, Manager Wireless Product Development, Warner Bros. Online: Pete Mauro is the Manager of Wireless Product Development for Warner Bros. Onlines recently launched international Wireless Group. In his role managing the companys worldwide product strategy, Mauro is responsible for delivering innovative consumer products and services that help drive promotion, revenue and brand awareness for Warner Bros. entertainment properties. This includes developing wireless applications that further leverage the companys classic brands like Looney Tunes, Scooby-Doo and DC Comics and also maximizing awareness for upcoming film, DVD and television releases. A veteran of the entertainment industry, Pete has 12 years of experience in digital entertainment working for both licensed developers and brand owners. |
