Some of the tough problems of managing and distributing rich media are being addressed through next generation tools and end-to-end automated services. Solutions that reliably deliver quality of service, cost control and improved time-to-market are strategic for content owners developing premium services. Are content owners now realizing hoped-for cost control and time to market benefits? What about the needs of marketing departments and advertisers – key stakeholders in the rich media value chain. Another area for improvement is rich media collaboration in the enterprise. What are some of the requirements for improving collaboration, and how close is the industry to addressing them?

Darcy Lorincz is the Vice President and General Manager of Global Rich Media Services at SAVVIS Communications. SAVVIS, a leading global IP network and Web hosting provider, has just released its new Web-based, user-interface Digital Media Management Platform, IMAS, to provide an end-to-end and automated solution for media management, ingestion, encoding, storage and distribution of digital content. He has over 20 years building, implementing, and managing technology strategies, products, and solutions for the IT, telecommunications, and networking industries. In his current role, Lorincz will be managing rich media managed network services. Prior to joining SAVVIS, Lorincz set the global strategy for the Networking and Communications segment of the BBC Technology product and marketing focus. Prior to joining the BBC, Lorincz was the Global SVP at Global Crossing. There he worked in the Technology & Engineering for the Media & Entertainment division whereby he created the technology strategy and operating plan for a global applications-enabled media extranet for on-demand and consumption based network services. Successfully bridging the gap between business problems and technology, and then generating the solution, has been a recurring theme over the past 20 years of Mr. Lorincz’s career.

Shoba Purushothaman, President and Chief Executive Officer, The NewsMarket, Inc.: The NewsMarket is a pioneering broadcast news distribution service that brings newsmakers and journalists together via a single Web-based platform to create a more efficient environment for the exchange of video news content. Shoba has 20 years of experience in the news and marketing industries. She was a business journalist for nine years, including at the Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones in Washington D.C., New York and London. The NewsMarket is her second enterprise in the news and marketing industry with the same co-founder, Anthony Hayward. Their first company, a broadcast consultancy, was created in 1989 in London and grew to become a leading global broadcast public relations consultancy with operations across Europe, Asia and the U.S. It was successfully acquired in 2001 by a publicly-listed, top-ten global marketing group. Shoba and Anthony co-founded The NewsMarket in 2000 to leverage the emerging digital technologies that are transforming how the marketing industry interacts with the news media. The NewsMarket began generating revenue from Fortune 500 clients in January 2001 and today boasts a top-drawer global customer list. The venture-backed company, a leader in digital media, is headquartered in New York with operations in Europe and Asia. Shoba completed a BA in English Literature and Japanese language from Monash University (Melbourne, Australia), an MA in Economic Communication from American University (Washington D.C.) and is a 2000 graduate of the Owner-President Management program at Harvard Business School.

Robert Flynn, CEO, Zetools: Robert Flynn was most recently the Co-Founder and SVP Business Development of Liquid Audio, Inc., Mr. Flynn was responsible for all of the corporate and business development activities of the company. Liquid Audio was the first company to develop a complete software platform for the legal distribution and commerce of digital media on the Internet. In addition to business and corporate development, Mr. Flynn’s responsibility included the Company’s sales and business affairs activities, development of its strategic relationships with entertainment industry and technology partners of the company, and in helping to set the strategic direction for the company. At founding, Mr. Flynn was also the CFO of the company, and after it went public was appointed to its Board of Directors. Prior to this, Mr. Flynn was a partner in Entertainment-Media Venture Partners, a institutional venture capital fund investing in technology companies focused on the entertainment and media industries, and in buyouts of entertainment and media companies, such as television stations, cable systems and movie theatre chains. At EMV, Mr. Flynn was responsible for setting investment strategy as well as finding, analyzing, investing in and monitoring portfolio companies. Prior to this, Mr. Flynn was Director, Corporate Development for Oldcastle, Inc., an investment holding company, where he was primarily involved in the company’s active program of acquiring businesses. Mr. Flynn started his career in management at AT&T’s Pacific Telephone subsidiary. In addition to the Liquid Audio Board of Directors, Mr. Flynn has sat on the Board of Directors of Integrated Media Systems, EMV Cable Corp. and Act III Theatres. Mr. Flynn has a BA from Stanford University and an MBA from the Anderson School of Management, UCLA.

Donald Leka, CEO, and the architect of the company’s business model. His vision to create Trans Media Exchange is a product of his background in media & technology and his executive management experience. Prior to launching TMX, Mr. Leka served as Senior Director of New Media for RxRemedy, a traditional/new media producer and distributor of consumer health-related media content. At RxRemedy, Mr. Leka conceived the business model and developed the business plan and P&L for the streaming media and cable television program, HealthSCOUT iTV propelling it through a distribution network of over 3,000 affiliate extranet sites. Mr. Leka established strategic partnerships with industry leaders including Apple Computer and Microsoft and throughout the HealthSCOUT Syndicated Network of over 3,000 sites (e.g. Yahoo, USA Today, NBCi, iWon, Juno, AT&T, Prodigy). Previously, Mr. Leka was a co-founder and Executive Director of The Fultz Foundation in Washington, DC where he was instrumental in securing funding from the George Soros Foundation and USAID among others. Mr. Leka developed and directed various international projects focused on business development and management training including telecommunications and the internet. Mr. Leka holds a Masters in Business Administration as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations, both from The American University in Washington D.C. Mr. Leka is also a composer, arranger, and producer of classical and popular music.

Katherine Parker is Principal of her own solution marketing business helping digital media companies establish and expand their markets. She brings over 18 years experience in media solutions go-to-market, business development, and strategic alliance management to teams and projects. Current projects include solutions consultancy for Avid Technology's http://www.avid.com/products/activecontentmanager/ Active Content Manager, and participation on the Agenda Committee for the Global Society for Asset Management's http://www.g-sam.org/ GSAM03 Symposium. As Business Development manager for Entertainment & Media Industry at Sun Microsystems, Katherine hosted the monthly Sun Entertainment & Media user group in Los Angeles. From 2000-2003, SEMUG LA provided a lively community forum for a wide range of digital media topics including digital asset management, digital distribution, digital rights management, interactive TV services, wireless content delivery, Java gaming, content portals and personalization, and media storage. Recently Ms. Parker was a member of Sun's web services software organization, specializing in Digital Identity solutions and Liberty standards. During her career at Sun Microsystems, Ms. Parker managed partnership activities with market-leading companies including Adobe, Agfa, Artesia, Bulldog (Documentum), iKnowledge (Avid), Kodak, NDS, Oracle, PricewaterhouseCoopers, RealNetworks, Sony, Vignette, and Xerox. Her Silicon Valley alliances expertise includes building go-to-market plans with partners based in North America, Japan, France, Germany, UK, Israel and many other countries. Additionally, Katherine led PR and Marcom activities for Sun at venues such as NAB, IBC, and Seybold Seminars, and is a presenter on digital media topics at industry conferences.

Tim D. Napoleon has over 10 years of experience developing interactive advertising and digital media strategies for studios, universities and Fortune 500 clients.
