| Wednesday, March 31 2:15 PM - 3:30 PM Session C: Charting Media Platform Economics: Using Research & Analysis to Determine How Media Platforms Impact Consumer Consumption Habits With the platforms of digital distribution, branding and sales of entertainment product multiplying and becoming increasingly complex, the need for analytical tools to chart return on investment is a must. Solutions to this problem are becoming more sophisticated. In this session, we will explore how entertainment companies are using sophisticated data analysis to track performance and impact of content delivered across multiple channels (box office, home video, gaming, rentals, sell through, wireless, VOD, etc.). Are additional media delivery channels providing new incremental revenue, or cannibalizing traditional/linear media? Content owners and research specialists weigh in about how consumer consumption habits are shifting as a result of more distribution channels and availability options. Lamberti, Vice President, Entertainment & Media Solutions, comScore Networks, Inc.: As head of the Entertainment and Media Solutions groups at comScore Networks, James Lamberti leads the development of comScore analysis and marketing solutions customized for firms in the music, movies, gaming and media industries. Mr. Lambertis background combines expertise in market research, CRM and business intelligence. Prior to comScore, Mr. Lamberti served as Marketing Director at Tickets.com where he was responsible for consumer marketing, implementation of CRM processes and development of a product line which included consulting, direct marketing and Web design services. Previously, Mr. Lamberti was a research manager at The Clorox Company, where he managed the design and launch of a product line extension that drove the brand to become number one in its category. He began his research career at Information Resources, Inc., a major international research company, where he was responsible for analytical support and business development efforts across a variety of leading marketing organizations. While honing his marketing research skills, Mr. Lamberti also explored his more artistic side as a signed artist with an independent label for several years. Mr. Lamberti holds a B.S. in Economics from Colby College. KARIM SANJABI, EVP Creative & Technology, Carat Interactive: Kari m leads both the technology team and emerging media practice group at Carat Interactive. In this role, Karim ensures that creative, technology, and media blend together on every client project, guided by a higher-level strategy. He serves account teams by being a catalyst for new ideas on clients such as Electronic Arts, EarthLink, Macromedia and RadioShack. Before joining forces with Carat Interactive, Karim was founder and CEO of Freestyle Interactive, a full service digital agency. Formed in 1997, Freestyle combined hard-hitting media with innovative design, well before the Internet boom. Serving as CEO, Karim built a profitable, independent, industry leading organization known for delivering brilliant results for clients. He is married, and has a MS in Computer Science from California State University at Chico.Richard Jalichandra, Vice President of Business Development, IGN Entertainment, Inc.: Richard Jalichandra serves as IGN and GameSpys Vice President of Business Development, where he oversees the companys mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances and business strategy. Richard brings over 20 years of diverse marketing and business development experience, including nine years of international experience in Asia and Europe. He began his career in politics, advising candidates, political action committees and ballot initiatives on marketing and fundraising strategies. After leaving the political arena, he held senior sales and marketing positions for premier brands like Ford Motor Company, IBM and Siemens. In addition to working on client side marketing, Richard has also run three successful marketing agencies, including K23 Creative Services, a business he founded while living in Singapore. Prior to joining IGN, Richard directed the national accounts team at Terra Lycos, was VP of Business Development at Neopost Online, and served as SVP/Managing Director of Answerthink (formerly THINK New Ideas). He has also performed some interesting side jobs, like publishing over 130 travel stories and doing voice-overs for radio and TV commercials. Richard earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California and his Masters of Business Administration in Marketing and Finance from the University of Washington. In his spare time, he drags himself through the occasional triathlon and loves traveling.Chris Roberts, Sr. VP Sales & Marketing, Rentrak: Chris Roberts brings 16 years of experience in the video business to Rentrak Corporation, an information management and video and video game distributor. Mr. Roberts has recently launched Rentrak's Video Game distribution services, which includes Video Game Essentials, Rentrak's video game data processing and management services. Mr. Roberts is also the owner of Go! Productions, Inc., a music and voice production company. Mr. Roberts previously served as Vice President of Sales at Rentrak, the position he had held since 1993 where he focused on managing sales for the Companys Video Essentials products. While Vice President of Sales, Roberts notable achievements included helping to grow the companys home video business from 2,000 to 6,000 stores and overseeing www.formovies.com, a comprehensive consumer source for home video information. Before joining Rentrak, Roberts was an Account Executive at National Video, Inc. Mr. Roberts serves as a member of the IEMA Interactive Entertainment Merchants Association (IEMA) and the Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA). Mr. Roberts studied Business Management/Music at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon.Larry Gerbrandt is Chief Operating Officer and Senior Analyst of Kagan W orld Media, a Media Central/Primedia company. He is responsible for all Kagan media research, consulting and publishing activities. Kagan produces 18 newsletters covering entertainment and communication sectors ranging from cable to broadcasting, home video to broadband, as well as wireless and new media technologies. The company also produces some 40 annual research reports and holds more than a dozen media-related conferences worldwide. He joined Kagan in 1984 and has served as senior analyst on more than a dozen newsletters, including CABLE PROGRAM INVESTOR, STREAMING MEDIA INVESTOR, VOD INVESTOR, THE PAY TV NEWSLETTER, CABLE TV ADVERTISING, MOTION PICTURE INVESTOR, DIGITAL TV INVESTOR, THE DBS REPORT, INTERNET MEDIA INVESTOR, TV PROGRAM INVESTOR and KAGAN MEDIA MONEY. Kagan was acquired by Primedia in October 2000 and he became COO in early 2001. In addition, he is a consultant in a wide range of new and traditional media and entertainment companies and has an extensive background in appraising media and entertainment properties--with a particular emphasis on program networks and movie/TV libraries and Web content properties--and has testified as an expert witness in dozens of litigations and arbitrations. Mr. Gerbrandt's broad knowledge of television, film and cable programming trends has made him a frequently quoted source in such national publications as Time Magazine, Newsweek, The New York Times, USA Today and The Wall Street Journal, as well as being sought after for appearances on such national TV shows as Cable News Network, Financial News Network and ABC's Good Morning America. His other duties include moderating at the nationally and internationally renowned Kagan seminars, including the DIGITAL HOUSEHOLD SUMMIT, STREAMING BROADBAND SUMMIT and VIDEO-ON-DEMAND SUMMIT. Prior to joining Kagan, he held executive positions with the cable division of Orion Broadcast Group and Brimstone Films, a Dallas, TX-based TV and film production company he helped found in 1980. While at Brimstone, Mr. Gerbrandt was an award-winning producer of television commercials, industrial films, museum documentaries and live television events. Mr. Gerbrandt attended Colorado State University and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Loretto Heights College (now Regis University) in Denver, Colorado. |
