| Wednesday, March 31 2:15 PM - 3:30 PM Session B: The Telco-Entertainment Partnership - From TV to Broadband Services It was only a matter of time before the Telcos made their presence known to the world of entertainment, content and information. What was a cable and satellite world, may soon have a new competitor in the area of content delivery to the consumer. First came the dial tone. Then long distance and that was followed by an international wireless network. Now that DSL has made its move as a leading technology into the home, moving the customer into a broadband video, broadcast services, movies on demand and other video services is only a few steps away. Telcos have the customers and the infrastructure, soon it will have entertainment content as well. Dick Jones, Director of Programming, Verizon Steve West, Director of Product Marketing Broadband Media & Entertainment, Alcatel Leif Street, Director of Marketing, Wood County Telephone Bill Correll, Corporate Strategy & Development, Broadband & Digital Media Technologies, Sun Microsystems, Inc. Margot Cathcart, Entara Media Group Inc. Ken Pyle, Viodi, LLC, Moderator Steve West is Director of Product Marketing for Alcatels Information, Communication and Entertainment Group and is based in Canada at Alcatels St. John, New Brunswick offices. As a marketing lead, Mr. West is responsible for global product marketing activities for the Open Media Suite of software and services. Prior to Alcatels acquisition of iMagicTV in 2003, Mr. West was Director of Product Management, Media Manager IPTV platform. Prior to iMagicTV, Mr. West was responsible for consumer broadband services marketing at Aliant, Atlantic Canadas largest telecom service provider. Mr. West holds a Diploma in Marketing and International business from St. Marys University in Halifax, Nova Scotia and a Diploma in Electronic Engineering Technology from DeVry Institute in Toronto, Ontario. Bill Correll, Corporate Strategy & Development, Broadband & Digital Media Technologies, Sun Microsystems, Inc: Bill is responsible for corporate alliances and strategic investments, across a range of substantive areas at Sun, including broadband and, wireless entertainment services, and telecommunications infrastructure., A fifteen year veteran of the industry, he has spearheaded Sun's market, and product efforts in digital television, video over IP, multiplayer, online games, digital asset and rights management, and content workflow. Bill has appeared on numerous industry panels and forums as an expert, in digital media and telecommunication trends, technology and business, models. Leif Street, Director of Sales and Marketing, WCTC: Leif Street is the Director of Sales and Marketing for WCTC, formerly known as Wood County Telephone Company. Leif is responsible for overseeing product pricing, development, sales and marketing for voice, video, data and wireless operations at WCTC; a company that was founded in 1896 and continues to thrive today among ever changing technologies and service offerings. WCTC is among the 54 largest telcos in the US and is considered to be an industry leader in new technology innovation and implementation. Leif began his career in telecommunications in 1996 when he acted as an advanced technologies project manager for the Q-7 Group. He then began work for several of the larger cable MSOs such as Bresnan Communications, Helicon Cable Communications and Charter Communications. He started for WCTC as their advanced digital TV services manager in 2000 and in 2001 was promoted to fill the role of Director for all of WCTCs service sales and marketing responsibilities. WCTC is a successful triple-play service provider.Dick Jones, Director of Programming, Verizon: Richard A. Jones is a communications executive who has been working in radio, television, cable TV, film, and public relations/marketing for the last thirty years. He is a published author, television, stage and film director, actor, musician, singer, songwriter, and radio announcer. Jones is listed in Whos Who in Entertainment and accredited by the Public Relations Society of America. He holds a Masters degree in Journalism and Bachelors degrees in Radio/TV/Film production and Theater from The Ohio State University. Jones has been married to his lovely wife Diane for 31 years and has two children, Justin and Chelsea, both actors. An Army veteran, he proudly served his country as a 1st Lieutenant during the Vietnam War era. Jones resides in Dallas, Texas, with his wife, kids, two birds, one snake, a cocker spaniel, hermit crabs, and several tropical fish. Richard started in cable TV in 1971 and has been working with television programming and marketing for Verizon for the last ten years. He is currently working on Verizons transition to a fiber to the premise network and a new national video offering.Margot Cathcart, Entara Media Group Inc., has had a wide variety of roles of in the television and broadband arena, currently working on product development strategy for MTSs (Manitoba Telecom Services) television service in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Ms. Cathcart began her career in the industry 15 years ago with Westman Communications Group, a mid-size, innovative cable company where she managed the marketing and customer care team through the introduction of high speed internet; the development and implementation of retention strategies as competition was introduced into the Canadian cable industry; and the shift to digital technology. During her tenure on the Westman Board of Directors Executive Committee, she was instrumental in the development of the companies diversification strategy. Following Westman, Ms. Cathcart joined the Womens Television Network (now W), managing cable and satellite accounts throughout Western Canada. She led the development of interactive web learning for both cable operators and their staff and the development of relationship marketing strategies. Ms Cathcart has, through Entara Dental Media Inc., recently launched a niche media streaming communication and entertainment solution into the North American dental market. Ken Pyle is co-founder of Viodi, LLC and has been intimately involved with a ll of Viodis clients. He created Digital Rights Management Reports that were approved by studios for several clients. He created processes for clients to use for their PPV and VOD operations. He has long standing relationships with service vendors such as Technicolor and Microspace, as well as many telecommunication manufacturers. Additionally, he produced the Video Solutions for Independence interactive CD-ROM, edited and produced interactive CD-ROMs for NTCA and USTA, is the producer of the Independent Telco Video Content Conference and publishes the monthly Viodi View newsletter, which is sent to over 1,300 recipients. Prior to Viodi, LLC, Pyle was Director of Technical Sales for Demand Video, a Video On Demand application service provider which targeted cable television overbuilders. His independent telco experience dates to 1991 with product, project and sales management roles at Raynet and E/O Networks. His experience in the cable industry dates to 1979 with manufacturing, engineering and field service roles at companies such as Catel and C-Cor.
