| Monday, March 29 9:00 AM - 10:15 AM Track II: Music Industry - Brand Extension in Games, Wireless and TV While the traditional music industry revenue streams continue to erode, a new music industry dynamic and revenue model is emerging in the industrys relationship to the worlds of wireless, games, TV and other brand integrated experiences. From the emergence of wireless ringtones as bestsellers and cell phones as listening devices to "American Idol" and half-time appearances as kick-offs to careers or CD sales, the integration of the music industry and the other medias and technologies has never been stronger. How important and long-lasting is this phenomenon and what is to come? In this session, we will try to probe the question of how the music industry is evolving. Jason Hirschhorn, Senior Vice President, Digital Music and Media, MTV Networks Ken Hertz, Senior Partner, Goldring Hertz & Lichtenstein LLP Michael Goldstein, Vice President of Interactive Programming, Fuse Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Audio, Electronic Arts Don Maggi, President, intertainment, Moderator Additional speaker to be announced Jason Hirschhorn, Senior Vice President, Digital Music and Media, MTV Networks: As Senior Vice President, Digital Music and Media, Jason Hirschhorn, is responsible for managing the online operations of MTV, MTV2, VH1, CMT, CTN and Comedy Central. He oversees the overall growth and strategy of digital music and media operations for the networks. Prior to being promoted to this position in November 2003, Hirschhorn was Senior Vice President of CMT.com and VH1.com. In his new role, Hirschhorn is responsible for overseeing the interactive strategies for MTV Networks, ensuring that each brand is in every media, including digital music, VOD, satellite, wireless and electronic devices. Prior to his appointment at VH1.com in May 2001, Hirschhorn had served as General Manager of Sonicnet.com since August 2000. During that time, Sonicnet.com set a new all-time traffic record and was consistently ranked as one of the top online music sites by Media Metrix. Before that, Hirschhorn was MTVis Vice President of Product Development for Sonicnet.com. Hirschhorn joined MTVi in March 2000 when MTV Networks bought Mischief New Media, a leading web site design and content development firm that he founded to serve the music industry. Hirschhorn subsequently founded several successful music entertainment destinations including RockOnTV.com, MusicStation.com, ShowbizWire.com, and MusicNewswire.com. Hirschhorn has a B.S. in International Business and Marketing from New York Universitys Stern School of Business. He is also on the board of Computers for Youth, which improves the educational, social and economic prospects for low-income students and their families by providing them with home computers and the skills to use them.Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Audio, Electronic Arts: As Worldwide Executive of Music and Audio for Electronic Arts, Steve Schnur works closely with EA production, publishing teams and the international record industry to supervise and select in-game music for EA GAMES, EA SPORTS BIG and EA SPORTS franchises. A 15-year music industry veteran, Mr. Schnur has brought both established stars and new breakthrough artists that include Snoop Dogg, Avril Lavigne, DMX, Fabolous, Sum 41, Nelly, Jimmy Eat World, Good Charlotte, Queens Of The Stone Age, Blink 182, Nappy Roots, Radiohead, Fat Boy Slim and scores more to EA Games, and was recently selected by Entertainment Weekly in their 2003 "It" issue as One Of the 100 Most Creative People In Entertainment for his work in bringing together the worlds of music and gaming. His accomplishments include managing the EA TRAX initiatives which resulted in the first RIAA certified platinum video game soundtrack with NBA LIVE 2003, as well as helping to establish the collaborative partnership with legendary hip-hop lifestyle company Def Jam to produce the top-selling, ground-breaking Def Jam VENDETTA. Prior to joining EA in January 2002, Mr. Schnur was Staff Producer/Senior Vice President of A&R at Capitol Records. He began his career in the 1980s at MTV where he worked in programming during the networks formative years. Mr. Schnur also has held various executive positions with Elektra Entertainment, Chrysalis Records and Arista Records, was instrumental in breaking and establishing the careers of such major artists as Natalie Merchant, Sarah McLachlan, Metallica and Bjork, and has supervised and produced music for films including CRUEL INTENTIONS and MISS CONGENIALITY. In less than a decade at only three major labels, he was involved in marketing, promoting and producing albums that totaled sales of more than 60 million units. Mr. Schnur has been an invited guest speaker on the gaming industry and international youth culture at The Rolling Stone New Technology Seminar, The Jacobs Media Conference and The Billboard Plug-In Festival, and delivered the Keynote Address at The 2003 NXNE Music Conference. Steve Schnur is also a voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS), on the Board Of Directors of the Lili Claire Foundation and is Chairman of the Music Committee for the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences.Kenneth Hertz, Senior Partner, Goldring, Hertz & Lichtenstein: Hertz, managing partner in the Beverly Hills law firm of Goldring, Hertz and Lichtenstein LLP, specializes in representing talent in the entertainment industries. The firms clients include Will Smith, Destinys Child, Beyonce Knowles, Christina Aguilera, No Doubt, Hillary Duff and Alanis Morissette. Prior to joining the firm, Hertz was vice president, music -- business and legal affairs -- for The Walt Disney Company. Marc Juris. President, muchmusic usa: In his position as President of muchmusic usa, Marc Juris is spearheading the rapid growth and evolution of the nations only viewer-driven, all-music network. Since assuming leadership in January 2002, Juris has overseen all strategic planning, programming, marketing, advertising and sales efforts for the network. His first order of business has been to reinvent muchmusic usas programming model. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Programming and Production for Select Media, the countrys largest producer/distributor of short-form programming. Before joining Select, Juris served as Creative Director at GM Communications, a boutique advertising agency with major entertainment clients Viacom, New World Pictures and Warner Bros. Prior to that he was a production executive at CBS Inc. Marc Juris is a native New Yorker and graduate of Syracuse University, where he majored in business. He is an active member of the many important industry associations, including the Television Academy of Arts and Sciences New York and Los Angeles branches. Michael Goldstein is the Vice President of Interactive Programming for Fuse. Goldstein, who joined the network in 2000, is responsible for the development and ongoing production of all interactive products (Web, VOD and mobile) built to support Fuse programming, affiliate, ad sales and marketing initiatives. Prior to joining FUSE, Goldstein was vice president of Interactive Production for Cablevision, where he developed interactive products while building an in-house production facility and staff for development and consulting services. Before that, Goldstein was the vice president of Interactive Services for Rainbow Media Holdings, Inc. Goldsteins other professional experience includes general manager/executive producer for DIC Interactive/DIC Animation (Burbank, CA), where he developed games and other multimedia products based on the companies animated properties; president of Media Resources, Inc. (a manufacturer and distributor of multimedia hardware and publisher of software for personal computers and a founding member of the Multimedia PC Marketing Counsel); and managerial and directorial positions with the PCC Group, Inc. He attended the University of Illinois, Chicago, majoring in Comparative Religion. |
