As the consumer alters its relationship to media, integrating broadband into every aspect of everyday life - from the mobile, to the public space and into the home - the power of the electronic message, whether delivered as advertising or via movies, TV, games, news or even as a function of the communications device itself, is a transformational tool. The industry is now experiencing its first steps in the fusion of marketing, entertainment and content. The real excitement will be found as the creative talent in the industry gets to experiment, innovate and produce new forms. He began his career by producing the teen hits I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER and I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER for Columbia Pictures and the teen comedy SLACKERS, also for Sony. After developing projects for most of the major studios and networks, he was under an overall producing deal with Artisan when Summit recruited him to run their film activities. In that capacity, he oversees development and co-productions with Summit's client companies, including Alcon Entertainment, Beacon Pictures, Intermedia, Mandalay Pictures, Newmarket Capital Group, Walden Media, Artisan Pictures, and Escape Artists. Erik is also responsible for creating a slate of in-house produced titles for Summit. He is currently in production on MR AND MRS SMITH, starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and directed by Doug Liman (BOURNE IDENTITY). He is in pre-production on ME AGAIN and THE ALIBI for Spring '04 starts and an as-yet-untitled teen music-driven film from the writer of SAVE THE LAST DANCE for a summer '04 start. His recent producing credits include WRONG TURN, a teen thriller for Fox, starring Eliza Dushku and with creature effects by Stan Winston. As well, another recent production, DOT THE I, a romantic thriller from first-time director Matthew Parkhill, starring Gael Garcia Bernal, won the audience award at the Deauville Film Festival and was accepted into the Premiere section at the Sundance Film Festival. Erik received a BA in English from Columbia University, 1992. Michael Kassan, Entertainment and Media Consultant: Michael E. Kassan i s a nationally recognized leader in the area of media and entertainment. Mr. Kassan is a strategic/brand development consultant presently to brands and companies including Home Depot, National Lampoon, Visible World, DIC Entertainment, Mindshare Worldwide, Ideal Entertainment, Brandsense, Warner Home Entertainment, Revolution Studios, Entertainment Industry Foundation, Microsoft, Verizon, Constellation Ventures (Bear Stearns), Cerberus Capital Management and The Leverage Group. Previously, Mr. Kassan was the President/Chief Operating Officer and Vice-Chairman of Initiative Media Worldwide a division of The Interpublic Group of Companies (IPG:NYSE), at the time, the largest and most diversified media management company in the world, with more than 75 offices in North America, Europe and Asia. In 1997, he was named one of the top media executives in America by Advertising Age magazine. Mr. Kassan joined Initiative Media Worldwide in 1994 and was instrumental in the sale of the company to IPG. While there, he oversaw the day-to-day operations in North America and was the architect of the firms international expansion and grew media billings from $1.5 billion to over $10 billion. Mr. Kassan, an attorney was counsel to the Los Angeles law firm of Christensen, Miller, Fink, Jacobs, Glaser, Weil & Shapiro. He had been President and Chief Operating Officer of International Video Entertainment (Artisan Entertainment). Mr. Kassan is a director and advisor to many charitable and community organizations, currently serving on the Board of the Hollywood Radio and Television Society, and previously serving on the Commission on California State Government Organization and Economy. He also has been Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on the Entertainment Industry in California and in 1998 was elected to the Board of the American Advertising Federation. Mr. Kassan serves on the following Boards as Director: H.E.L.P Group, Big Brothers of Los Angeles, Stephen S. Wise Temple and Skirball Cultural Center.Kristin Patrick Petersen, Senior Vice President, National Promotions, Universal Pictures: Kristin Patrick Petersen was named senior vice president, national promotions, for Universal Pictures in February 2003. Reporting to Eddie Egan, co-president of marketing, Ms. Petersen is responsible for developing and securing national promotions programs for Universals domestic film releases and home video titles, as well as classic library properties. She will also work closely with The Brand Group in its efforts to extend the value of all Universal Pictures brands. Since joining Universal, Ms. Petersen has worked on the promotional campaigns for such 2003 releases as 2 Fast 2 Furious, The Hulk, Seabiscuit, Dr. Seuss The Cat in the Hat and Peter Pan. Shes currently working on such upcoming Universal releases as Van Helsing, The Chronicles of Riddick, Thunderbirds, Curious George, Spy-Hunter and King Kong. Ms. Petersen comes to Universal from Revlon, where as vice president, brand exposure and global licensing for more than two years, she was responsible for developing and integrating innovative brand-building activities, licensing efforts and establishing key partnerships with major brands and entertainment companies. Ms. Petersen joined Revlon in December 1998 as director, licensing and business development, and was responsible for developing programs to build brand identity, retail awareness and profitability for Revlon brands globally. Previously, Ms. Petersen worked as director, cK for Calvin Klein, where she led efforts for licensing and business development to expand the cK brand globally. Ms. Petersen also spent three years at Disney Consumer Products, where she was assistant manager of accessories, toys and sporting goods, and was responsible for overseeing product development, as well as advertising and promotions to support Disneys animated films, television and branded properties, including Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse. Chris Gebhardt, Partner, Integrated Entertainment Partners: Christopher Gebhardt has unique background building brands and businesses over the past 15 years. He has client and agency experience, financial and marketing academic pedigrees, has worked on new and well-established brands, and has worked across traditional media and advertising channels yet is at the forefront of emerging media and technologies. Prior to joining IEP, Christopher was with Ogilvy & Mather where he managed integrated marketing programs and consulting projects for Coca-Cola, Kodak, Unilever, Motorola, Sears, Arthur Andersen, AIG, Ameritrade, and others. Most recently, he was Senior Partner and Executive Director of Emerging Technology and Innovation, responsible for driving new marketing models including branded content and entertainment integration across all of the Ogilvys clients. Prior to Ogilvy, he was with Pepsi-Cola and started his career as consultant at PriceWaterhouseCoopers. Mr. Gebhardt has an MBA from Kellogg and speaks frequently at emerging marketing technology conferences and business schools on the topic of the future of marketing and advertising. |
