Its here today and a flood of content is about to be unleashed on the user. The entire entertainment industry is getting involved. With millions of users at stake, this rush to market is only expected. However the obstacles to full operability and financial profitability are still in up in the air. In this session, we will here from the various practitioners in the wireless content space, from the technology experts to the content suppliers. What does content mean in a narrowband wireless universe and how is it about to change? Shawn Conahan, VP & Head of MP3 Mobile, MP3.Com Raymond K. In this role, he is defining MP3.com's next-generation mobile applications to increase the value of the company's content and technology to its partners in the wireless arena. As the premier Music Service Provider, MP3.com provides music content and the infrastructure to serve it to any device, anywhere. Prior to his role as Director of Wireless Strategies, he was the product release manager for the controversial My.MP3.com service which launched earlier this year and is now the subject of much debate. The My.MP3.com service is a "jukebox in the sky" which allows a user to listen to his or her music from any net-connected device. A recent music industry expatriate, Shawn briefly worked at Universal Music Group prior to joining MP3.com in July of 1999. While at Universal, he was a global program manager for the Electronic Commerce Advanced Technology group. Ray Uhlir, Vice President Marketing, DataPlay: As vice president of marketing for DataPlay, Inc., Raymond K. Uhlir, Jr. is responsible for developing and overseeing the daily execution of marketing and channel development strategies. Mr. Uhlir came to DataPlay from IBM, where he most recently served as global marketing executive for IBM's customer relationship management (CRM) e-business division. Mr. Uhlir was responsible for the marketing strategy behind the deployment of three major websites. Mr. Uhlir was also program director for IBM's licensing and business development division. In just over a year, he facilitated 10 strategic partnerships with more than 12,000 reseller outlets and a guaranteed profit annuity of over $40 million. Prior to working for IBM, Mr. Uhlir worked as a program manager for Raytheon Corporation and as an engineering supervisor for E-Systems, Inc. Mr. Uhlir holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Auburn University and master of science degree in engineering management/marketing from George Washington University. Anthony Stonefield, founder & CEO, Premium Wireless Services and YourMobile Networks: Anthony Stonefield is founder and CEO of Premium Wireless Services (PWS) and Yo urMobile Networksthe leading global wireless media network, which provides immediate turn-key solutions for network operators, mobile device manufacturers, and media companies seeking to provide value-added wireless entertainment products and services to their customers. The companys YourMobile Networks is a branded wireless distribution network that services more than 10 million consumers worldwide. Under his leadership, YourMobile Networks has grown to become the most popular wireless consumer site in the world, delivering 55 million individual downloads of custom ringtones and logos since April 2000 and attracting almost 20,000 new membership sign-ups per day. Stonefield and his research and development team laid the groundwork for PWS and YourMobile Networks in 1994, when he founded Global Music One (GMO). The company specialized in the secure delivery of electronic entertainment over land-wire networks. GMO partnered with AT&T Corporation to create the worlds first electronic song distribution platform. GMOs innovative work with AT&T also led to the development of the "Digital Audio Postcard," an acclaimed viral, bundled-media marketing application. Previously, Stonefield was an independent music producer and manager. In 1993, he began developing the publishing, licensing, and broadcasting business for the Internet Underground Music Archive (IUMA), the pioneer of MP2 downloads, which cultivated his interest in online media marketing and distribution. Stonefield first became interested in new technology when, in 1988, he began working for Brooks/Cole Publishing, a leading publisher in the adoption of electronic book publishing techniques. Stonefield has been an advisor to AT&T Corporation, Nokia Ventures Organization, and Nortel Networks, and has spoken as an expert panelist at a number of international conferences including Plug.In, Webnoize, iWireless World, MforMobile, IBC, eMedia, MB5, and eMediatainment World. Stonefield pursued higher education in the areas of science and creativity and earned his bachelors degree from the University of California at Santa Cruz.Michelle Tobin, Director of Strategic Alliances for Luxxon Corporation: Michelle is responsible for driving all of Luxxon's content and applications-related stategic relationships worldwide. Her background includes international consulting and business development at companies such as Associates for International Research and Australian Trade Commission. Prior to joining Luxxon, Michelle served as Director of Content Alliances at Clearband, a broadband software company, and worked in international distribution at both Twentieth Century Fox and Warner Brothers. Michelle received an MBA in Marketing and Entertainment Management from the University of Southern California in 1996. Greg Clayman, co-founder & VP of Marketing, UPOC: Prior to Upoc, Greg serv ed as Vice President at the Sterling Group in New York City. While at Sterling, he led brand strategy projects for a number of media, entertainment and retail companies including MTV Networks, Liberty Digital, and Levi's. Before Sterling Group, Greg worked at Bright Sun Consulting, a brand strategy start-up, where he developed positioning, corporate identity and communications strategies for Qwest Communications and Exxon. Greg graduated cum laude from Harvard College with a B.A. in English and American Literature.Alice Rodd O'Rourke became Executive Director of the New York New Media Ass ociation (NYNMA) in 1998. Under her leadership, membership has nearly quadrupled to nearly 8,500, making it the largest regional Internet association in the world. She was selected to Crains New York Business IT 100 in 2001 and named one of 50 New Yorkers to Watch by The New York Daily News in 1999. Under her direction, NYNMA's full array of panels, trade shows, conferences and other member benefits have expanded to serve an industry that has become one of the City's most important industries. She launched NYNMA's most recent additions, a nationally recognized internship program and an institute for training Internet entrepreneurs. In the past two years, attendance at all NYNMA's signature events has soared, and the association's role in influencing New York City and State government policies has grown. Alice has an extensive background in government, law and business. At Colgate Palmolive, she held the positions of Vice President of Colgate Venture Company, where she developed and funded new businesses, and Associate Director of Colgate's US oral care products. She was Senior Vice President of Marketing at Empire State Development (ESD) where she managed a staff of 300, implementing New York State's economic development policy worldwide. Alice also held a senior position at the New York Power Authority and led the ROR Group, a marketing consultancy. Her career began as an attorney, working for both Colgate and the New York District Attorney's Office, and she was an adjunct professor of law at Pace University and Mercy College. She is a frequent speaker at new media and other business and civic events.Joe Laszlo, Senior Analyst, Jupiter Media Metrix: As a senior analyst covering broadband and wireless technologies, Joseph Laszlo plays a key role in Jupiter Media Metrix's strategic analysis of new interactive platforms. Laszlo has contributed to several Jupiter reports on consumer adoption of broadband technologies, as well as to research on broadband applications and business models. He also served as lead analyst on one of Jupiter's primary reports on the potential of the mobile Internet. A common theme through Laszlo's research is the deployment of infrastructure at all levels of the network that will enable companies to exploit the growth of both broadband and mobile interactivity. Laszlo has an extensive background of research experience examining the deployment of new media and Internet technologies, including issues related to content distribution and wireless and non-PC access. His opinions have been sought by The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times and National Public Radio, and he has appeared on ABC World News Tonight and CNN. He has spoken at numerous industry conferences and events, including Internet World and CTAM**, as well as Jupiter's own Media, Advertising, Entertainment and Global Wireless forums. Laszlo joined Jupiter Media Metrix in March 1999 after working as a consultant with Economics and Technology, Inc., a Boston-based research firm specializing in telecommunications, economic and regulatory policy issues. Laszlo holds an M.A. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University and a B.A. in East Asian studies, magna cum laude, from Columbia University. He lives in New York City. |
