Whether it is going to be called ETV Enhanced Television, TVs with Interactive Programming, multi-plexed TV viewing, or Customized or Personalized TV, there are a group of companies who have set the stage for this next TV generation, and we are pleased to have them represented at this session. David Limp, Chief Strategy Officer, Liberate Technologies Arthur Orduna, Vice President Marketing, Canal+ Technologies Anup Murarka, VP, Strategic Product Marketing, OpenTV Haig Krakirian, Senior Vice President Software Engineering, Pioneer Chuck Kaplan, Vice President Marketing, PowerTV Phil Corman, Director of Partner Business Development, Microsoft TV Group Gene Feroglia, Chief Executive Officer, iSurfTV Rob Glidden, Market Development Manager, Broadband & iTV, Sun Microsystems, Moderator David Limp, Chief Strategy Officer, Liberate Technologies: David Limp is responsible for Li berates strategic planning, technology licensing, corporate partnerships, and mergers and acquisitions. He is also tasked with guiding the companys initiatives on standards and guarding intellectual property issues. Dave assesses merger and acquisition opportunities and manages the allocation of investments, defining the companys strategic direction for investment and corporate development. Prior to assuming his current responsibilities, Mr. Limp was senior vice president of corporate development, and vice president of marketing at Liberate. Previously, Mr. Limp spent nine years with Apple Computer, Inc. where he was director of Apple Computer's North and South American PowerBook division. In that position, he oversaw the daily operations of the business, including manufacturing and channel development, as well as Apple's efforts to renew the PowerBook line of products. Mr. Limp holds B.S. degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics from Vanderbilt University and an M.S. degree in Management from Stanford University, Graduate School of Business. He is a frequent speaker at industry events, including the Western Cable Show, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), and The Progress & Freedom Foundations annual Aspen Summit.Phil Corman is director of partner business development for the Microsoft TV Group at Microsoft Corporation. In this capacity, Corman is responsible for extending Microsoft TV into a total end-to-end solution for network operators around the world. Corman is responsible for developing and managing marketing, product and development relationships with strategic partners for Microsoft TV. These include OEMs, independent hardware and software vendors, and various solution providers and systems integrators for video on demand (VOD), electronic programming guide, conditional access and subscriber billing management. Prior to joining Microsoft in March 2001, served as general manager, Interactive Digital Systems at Mitsubishi Electronics America. In this capacity, Corman proposed, launched and staffed the entire division including product marketing, sales and technical directors. He also started a commercial VOD business unit for Mitsubishi that delivered VOD and Internet browsing over the TV to hotels, cruise ships and hospitals. Corman also spent 15 years in the computing industry with Digital Equipment Corporation (now Compaq). Corman is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and Association for Computing Machinery. He holds a bachelors of science in mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Haig Krakirian, Senior Vice President Software Engineering, Pioneer: As vice president of software engineering at Pioneer, Krakirian is responsible for developing and producing interactive a pplications for digital set-top boxes. Pioneers Passport, is a comprehensive digital navigation suite of applications incorporating an interactive program guide, impulse pay-per-view, and video on demand features. Prior to joining Pioneer, he was director of engineering at Time Warner Cable Broadband Applications, where he led the software development group in creating CDROM and ITV applications, including shopping and sports applications for the companys Full Service Network trial in Orlando, FL. He is a frequent presenter including Digital Hollywood and SCTE Cable Tec Expo. Haig holds a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern California.Anup Murarka, VP Strategic and Product Marketing, OpenTV: Anup Murarka is Vic e President, Strategy and Product Marketing. He is responsible for a worldwide team that assists in helping OpenTV's customers and the market at large understand more about OpenTV's offerings and technologies. From product definition and requirements to product release and positioning, Murarka is involved in all aspects of OpenTV's solution offering. He is an active spokesperson for the company with customers, technology and financial analysts and industry events. Murarka comes to OpenTV from Spyglass, Inc. an Internet technology company that merged with OpenTV in July 2000. At Spyglass, Mr. Murarka held a variety of management roles in engineering, professional services and sales. Most recently, he was Vice President, Interactive TV and was responsible for defining and directing Spyglass efforts within ITV. He has also held a variety of management positions at leading technology companies such as Apple Computer, Inc., The 3DO Company and SurfWatch.Gene Feroglia, Chief Executive Officer, iSurfTV: As a co-founder and senior executive, Mr. Feroglia has been instrumental in the formation and management of several startups. His expertise includes building strategic alliances, negotiating equity financing, mergers and acquisitions, and developing and implementing innovative sales and marketing strategies. Formerly President of HoTV (now Innovatv), a company providing technology for interactive video production; Executive Vice President, Corporate Development at CarSmart.com, where he negotiated the sale of CarSmart to industry leader Autobytel Inc.; Senior Vice President of Paragraph International (a 3-D tools company he helped to sell to SGI); and interim President of Worlds Inc., a pioneer in 3D interactive applications. Mr. Feroglia previously held various sales and marketing positions at IBM. Arthur Orduna, Vice President Marketing, Canal + U.S. Technologies: With more than 15 years of experience in the media, interactive TV and embedded systems industries, Orduna is responsible for creating and executing integrated and product marketing plans targeting digital interactive and enhanced television networks. Orduna is a long-time player in the interactive television industry. He helped develop partnerships and business relationships at the executive level with key companies in the interactive television industry such as Bell Atlantic, US West, Tele-TV, Americast, HongKong Telecom, Phillips, MEI/ Panasonic, Mitsubishi, and Motorola. As the vice-president of marketing for DIAB-SDS, a wholly owned subsidiary of ISI, Orduna was responsible for developing strategies targeting consumer electronics and other embedded software markets that generated record revenues. Before joining the Canal+ Technologies team in Cupertino, California, Orduna led the marketing team responsible for the embedded consumer electronics market for Wind River, the embedded software systems industry leader. Orduna is a long-time supporter and participant in the open standards-based initiatives, Orduna helped lead early marketing efforts to embed Java technology in Interactive TV, wireless networks, and interactive appliances. Orduna holds a MFA degree from NYU and a BA in Theatre Arts from Cornell University.Chuck Kaplan is vice president of Marketing for PowerTV, Inc. Chucks responsibilities include all aspects of the companys strategic communications and overseeing product management. Chuck has substantive experience in growing brands, developing sales teams, and executing marketing strategies for cable organizations. Previously, Kaplan served as vice president and general manager of the North American cable set-top box business at Philips Electronics. He was responsible for all cable broadband access products for North America including cable set-top boxes, voice and data modems, Internet and personal TV products, home networking products and retail products. In addition, he was responsible for financials, organization management, investment, partnership and product strategies, and sales and marketing. Previous to that, he was vice president of marketing at Scientific-Atlanta, working on analog and digital set-tops for both domestic and international markets. He also spent 15 years in the telecom industry at Bell Telephone Labs and at Hitachi America involved in switching systems, fax and video conferencing products. Kaplan, who resides in Atlanta, holds a masters degree in computer science from Georgia Tech and a bachelors degree in mathematics from Emory University. |
