Since joining Sun in 1995, she has been involved in bringing key components of Sun's advanced digital media technology to market. She chaired ISO's MPEG4-Java standards group and formed multi-company alliances to promote Java and protect Sun's strategic interests. Prior to Sun, Ms Shah was with the Sarnoff Corporation (RCA research lab). She represented the HDTV Grand Alliance during the development of HDTV and pioneered the world's first E-Commerce application of interactive HDTV at NAB-95. She has served as a panelist/speaker at several industry conferences, published papers and has several pending patents. She hold M.S. from Utah State University. Dale (Ty) Roberts, Chief Technology Officer, Gracenote (formerly CDDB): Roberts join ed Gracenote (formerly CDDB) in November of 1998 when Gracenote acquired ION, a multimedia and music technology company that he founded in 1993. Roberts serves as Gracenotes chief strategist, providing technology direction and overseeing the creation of products and services that leverage the power of the Gracenote database to deliver multimedia content to consumers. He is Gracenotes representative to the Secure Digital Music Initiative (SDMI), organization that is chartered with establishing standards for digital music and music playing devices. While at ION, Roberts was the companys lead technologist and was widely recognized in the music industry as one of the inventors of enhanced CD technology. ION was an innovator in adding multimedia content to traditional audio CDs and produced some of the recording industrys first enhanced audio CD titles, including David Bowies "Jump" and "Headcandy" from Brian Eno. ION was also widely recognized as a leading provider of enhanced CD production tools utilized by recording and multimedia development companies. In September 1993, Bertlesmann Music Group acquired a 50 percent interest in ION and together created the first interactive record label. Prior to founding ION, Roberts was a founder and senior manager of LightSource, a software development company that produced multimedia and graphics editing software. He was also a senior engineer at Pixar and a creator of a number of award winning Apple-based music applications including "Studio Session" and "Jam Session."Carlos Montalvo is the Chief Marketing Officer at Virage, Inc. Carlos joined Virage in 1998 to lead their product and marketing organizations. Over the past two years he has helped Virage bring to market such products as the Virage VideoLogger(TM), the Virage Video Application Server(TM) and the Virage Internet Video Guide(TM). Today, these products are redefining how content owners publish, manage and syndicate video on the Web. Prior to joining Virage, Carlos was corporate vice president of Apple Computer's Interactive Media Group, where he was responsible for Apple's suite of QuickTime technologies and products, including QuickTime, QuickTimeVR, QuickDraw3D and QuickTimeTV. As director of marketing for Apple's Entry Systems division, he led the product management and introduction of Apple's first integrated video-in/video-out architecture for consumer PCs. Prior to Apple he held several positions at Xerox, including program lead for the Xerox J-Star project. Carlos began his career in government service where he served as a presidential appointee with the Reagan Administration and held several positions at the National Science Foundation.Deepak Srinivasan, CEO, enScaler: Mr. Srinivasan brings to enScaler a blend of entrepr eneurial, marketing and technology experience with over 15 years in broadband, home networking, consumer video applications, consumer marketing and strategic information systems. Prior to enScaler he was with ShareWave, a startup pioneering the home networking market, where he managed the wireless networking and video compression chipsets. From 1994 to 1997 Deepak held the positions of Director Product Marketing and Business Development with Elcom Technologies, a home networking startup, where he launched several products into consumer retail, OEM and service provider channels. From 1985 to 1994 Deepak consulted in software /IT in US, Europe and India. Deepak has a BS in Aerospace Engineering from IIT Kanpur (India). He is an aviation enthusiast and counts photography and geopolitics among his many interests.Armistead Whitney, Chief Executive Officer, Fast-Talk Communications: In Septem ber 2001, Armistead Whitney was named President and CEO of Atlanta-based Fast-Talk Communications. Armistead's responsibilities include overseeing all business operations, strategy and technology development. His experience in raising capital, developing strong clients and partners, and building sustainable business models will be instrumental in the next stage of the company's development. Armistead's broad experience in the digital media industry includes a strong background developing and launching businesses around industry-changing technology. In 1999, he founded Sekani, Inc., a leading digital media management and licensing solutions company headquartered in NYC. He still maintains a board of directors seat with the company. At Sekani, Armistead was responsible for overseeing all business activities relating to corporate and business development, product development, financing, alliances, and mergers and acquisitions. He raised over $25 million of capital while developing partnerships and clients with companies such as NBC, IBM, Time Warner, Corbis, and WWF. Before Sekani, Armistead was an early principal at iXL Enterprises, an early pioneer of the Internet services industry. Armistead launched and managed iXL's successful digital media solutions groups in both Atlanta, Georgia and New York City. Armistead has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Sports Illustrated, New York Times, Broadcasting and Cable, Advertising Age, Atlanta Business Chronicle, Atlanta Journal-Constitution and others. He has participated as a key speaker at such industry conferences as Red Herring Venture Market South, Champion Ventures Annual Conference, International Television & Video Association, Big I 2000, Media Asset Management West 2001, Content World 2001 and numerous other conferences. Under his leadership Sekani received industry awards including Red Herring's Venture market South's Top 50 Companies to Watch, Bear Stearns Digital Media Equity Research Report March 2001 and PriceWaterhouseCoopers' Georgia's Top 25 Venture Capital Deals of 2000. Armistead graduated from the University of Georgia in 1991 with a B.A. in Broadcast Communications. He and his wife remain active in the Atlanta community with organizations including Zoo Atlanta, PATH Foundation, and Egleston's Children's Hospital.Max Bloom is a streaming media consultant and founder of Integrated Streaming, a media s ervices company based in Santa Monica, California. He has an extensive background in broadcast television and film as a writer, producer and technical director for major studios and networks including CBS, ABC, NBC, 20th Century Fox, and Sony (Columbia-Tristar).
