Handhelds are getting color and power, and wireless networks are getting rich media friendly features. The relationships between the device manufacturer, the telco or gateway, the infrastructure provider, platform or protocol developer and finally the content provider can be best understood as huge interlocking systems of ventures, partnerships and syndication relationships. In this session, we will try to understand how these relationships are evolving and what the business models and marketplace of the wireless portals and their content of the future will look like. Simon co-founded the Zomba Group of music companies. Zomba and its Jive Records is the world's most successful and leading independent music publishing and recording organization. In 1993, he became Executive Vice President of Capitol Records and Blue Note Records in Los Angeles where he founded EMI's New technology & New Media division. In 1996, Simon was appointed European President of Rondor Music International and Almo Sounds record companies in the UK and Ireland, Holland, Germany, France and other European Union territories.In 1998, Simon returned to Los Angeles and became Chairman of Santa Monica-based Global Music One and founded Yourmobile - the first company of its kind in the USA specializing in the development, distribution and application of mobile entertainment, intellectual property and publishing rights of the emerging mobile entertainment industry. Simon was responsible for concluding the sale of Yourmobile to Vivendi-Universal's VU Net USA in January 2002. Tiina Zilliacus, Senior Manager, Media and Music Applications Area, For um Nokia, Nokia Mobile Phones: Tiina Zilliacus is responsible for media, music and messaging applications development for Forum Nokia, Nokias developer community. She heads the team with whom applications developers, content providers and network operators interface to promote mobile media, music and messaging applications. In 2001 and 2002, Ms. Zilliacus group was instrumental in stimulating Multimedia Messaging (MMS) application development for Nokia's terminals as well as getting MMS applications to the mobile services market. In July 2002, the team also assumed responsibility for helping branded as well as non-branded mobile content developers and owners to develop mobile media and music services for Nokia's terminals. Before joining Nokia in August 2001, Ms. Zilliacus worked for Finnish telecommunications operator, Sonera, in several business and strategy development projects and positions. In 1999, she helped found Sonera Zed, the global mobile portal offering mobile value-added services. During two years as business development manager for Sonera Zed, she was responsible of various internationalisation, global partnering, business modeling and product development related efforts. Ms. Zilliacus holds a Masters Degree in Economics from Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration in Finland.Jennifer Herman, Director of Marketing, Sorrent: Jennifer Herman brings more than a decade of sports and entertainment technology experience to her role as head of marketing for Sorrent, a leading developer and publisher of mobile games. As part of her responsibilities at Sorrent, Ms. Herman oversees international licensing relationships with key brands, including FOX Sports and Chinese basketball star, Yao Ming. Prior to joining Sorrent, she held several key positions in the sports division at gaming powerhouse Electronic Arts. While at EA SPORTS, she worked with several major sports properties, including the PGA TOUR and Tiger Woods. Before moving west to work at Electronic Arts, Ms. Herman worked at Hearst New Media and in several Viacom divisions, including Viacom New Media and MTV News where she was a producer on the "Choose or Lose" bus tour. Ms. Herman holds a B.A. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania. Rio Caaeff, Vice President, Wireless Services, Sony Pictures Digital Entertain ment: As Vice President of the Wireless Services Group, Caraeff manages the Wireless Services Group and its consumer businessSony Pictures Mobilewhich develops and distributes entertainment applications and services featuring Sony Pictures Entertaiment properties through global carriers. Prior to joining Sony Pictures Digital in 2001, Caraeff co-founded Fabric, a corporate consultancy whose roster of clients included Sony Pictures Entertainment, Miller Brewing Company, and Music Match. Caraeffs history with Sony includes senior positions at 550 Digital and Sony Music Entertainment where he secured partnerships to facilitate the distribution of Sony content and services worldwide and developed online ventures to digitally distribute music and video directly to consumers. Prior postings for Caraeff include such companies as Capitol Records Group, Propaganda Fims/Polygram Filmed Entertainment, Generator Digital Post, and Crunch Media Group.Mike Yuen, Director, BREW Developer Relations, Consumer Content & Applications, QUALCOMM Internet Services, QUALCOMM Incorporated: Mike Yuen is director of BREW developer relations for QUALCOMM Internet Services (QIS). QIS is the QUALCOMM division chartered with driving development of next-generation wireless data applications and services, and is responsible for QUALCOMM's BREW solution, a complete technical and business system for wireless devices; QChat, a push-to-talk VoIP technology for 3G CDMA networks; and Eudora® email software. Yuen manages the developer relations team responsible for working with consumer application publishers, developers, and branded media content providers in the communication, entertainment, games, m-commerce, and productivity segments as well as application import/export. His team has been responsible for closing deals with companies such as Disney, Sony, Sega, Bandai, Namco, THQ, Mattel and numerous others. Prior to joining QUALCOMM in 2001, Yuen was vice president of marketing for Hammerhead Entertainment, a CD-ROM game publishing company he co-founded. Yuen has also held product marketing management positions with several global game publishers including Accolade and GTE Interactive Media, where he worked on the launch of the best-selling computer game "Titanic: Adventure Out of Time." He also previously worked as an engineer for AMD and NCR. Yuen has been a speaker at numerous events such as CTIA, Mobile Entertainment Summit, CES, Internet World, Andy Seybold's Wireless Data University, UCLA Wireless Internet Data & Enterprise Application Summit and iWireless World. He has been quoted in publications such as the New York Times, PC World, Wireless Week, Wireless Gaming Review and Consumer Electronics Daily. He holds a BACS from the University of California-San Diego (UCSD) and an MBA from the University of California-Davis (UCD). He is a member of the International Game Developers Association (IGDA).Sang Y. Rhee, CEO, Mobile Culture: Sang Y. Rhee is the founder and CEO of Mobile Culture, Inc., a global publisher of mobile entertainment content based in Seoul. Under his leadership, Mobile Culture currently provides Java games, video on demand, MMS, ring tones and ring back tones to more than 15 mobile operators world-wide, including Singtel, Hong Kong CSL, Orange, AT&T Wireless and Vodafone. Prior to founding Mobile Culture, Sang was a management consultant with Deloitte Consultings Global Communications Practice with their Hong Kong, Seoul and New York offices, where he specialized in strategy formulation and new service planning for mobile operators in Asia Pacific.
