And that is the job of the DRM technology industry, to make the film, music and mobile technology delivery systems safe for mass use. In this session, we will explore, from the point of view of the technology companies, the possibilities and potential of DRM in the evolving content landscape. DMOD provides secure digital media workflow and distribution solutions for the media and communications industry. An accomplished editor, designer and inventor, Ohanian was formerly chief editor and corporate fellow at Avid Technology, and was the firms primary software and workflow designer. He is a board member and advisor to several digital media technology firms, a frequent judge and lecturer at film festivals, and author of Digital Nonlinear Editing and co-author of Digital Filmmaking, the industry leading textbooks on the subjects. Ohanian holds a BS in broadcasting and film from Boston University, an MS in instructional technology from Rhode Island College, and an honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Rhode Island CollegeJan Steenkamp, Chief Executive Officer, Entriq: As CEO of Entriq, Jan Steen kamp brings to the company his extensive experience in pay television operations, gained from a range of management positions within MIH Limited (MIHL) since 1985. Before joining Entriq, Steenkamp was CEO of MIHLs technology division and Chairman of OpenTV Corp. until August 2002. Prior to this, he was CEO of OpenTV, where he was instrumental in its development as the leading provider of cost-effective solutions for the delivery of digital interactive services to television viewers around the world. Previously, Steenkamp was the Commercial Director of Irdeto Consultants in The Netherlands, and held various management and new business initiative positions at both Irdeto and the MIH Group from 1985 to 1997. During that time, he initiated the introduction of pay television in Greece, managed a project team to establish pay television in Italy, worked with Shinawatra in Thailand to establish digital television, worked with Galaxy in Australia to launch the first DVB digital DTH platform in the world, and was active in the acquisition and development of the European Nethold operations in The Netherlands, Belgium, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Steenkamp holds a degree in electrical engineering from Witwatersrand Technicon in South Africa. Today, he is a sought-after speaker on the topics of pay media over the Internet and the future of broadband.Bruce Davis, chairman and CEO, Digimarc Corp.: Bruce Davis has more than 20 years experience developing major new consumer technology markets, most recently and most recently digital watermarking-based applications. Davis has served as Digimarcs chief executive officer and director since December 1997. In that time, Digimarc has developed a stream of innovative media applications that address major technology issues of today counterfeiting and piracy deterrence, digital rights management, and simplified Internet access. Davis holds 13 patents and began his career as an intellectual property attorney.Steve Weinstein, Executive Vice President and General Manager Enter tainment Technology Group, Macrovision Corporation: Weinstein was promoted to executive vice president and general manager of the Entertainment Technologies Group (ETG) in May 2003 when the Company was reorganized into two primary business units focusing on entertainment and software. Weinstein joined Macrovision as chief technology officer in December 2002. He brought more than 25 years of experience at leading technology companies to his role as CTO, where he was responsible for determining the technology strategy and expanding the core intellectual property of the company. Mr. Weinstein was most recently CTO at Vicinity (acquired by Microsoft), the leading provider of Location Based Information and Services, where he provided technical and M&A expertise. Previously he was a founder of Backstage Pass, a business focused on digital identities and online communities for major music talent. Prior to that, he spent over four years at Liberate Technologies, joining the company as a founding executive and chief visionary. While at Liberate Technologies, he played a pivotal role in managing the technology innovations and product development and executed strategic acquisitions. >From 1993 to 1996, Mr. Weinstein was the studio head/general manager of gaming company Microprose, Inc. Other career experience includes executive leadership roles in engineering at Electronics for Imaging, Media Cybernetics, Inc. and Ship Analytics, Inc. Mr. Weinstein has one issued and four pending patents in the appliance/broadband space, and serves on the advisory board of several companies. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Vanderbilt University.Channels, QVC and Sky News Australia.Bruce Gitlin, VP Business Development, ContentGuard, Inc.: Bruce Gitli n's responsibilities include all business development, marketing and sales. Prior to ContentGuard Gitlin was Director, Strategic Alliances at Xerox where he was responsible for establishing alliances with key computer industry leaders. At Xerox, his responsibilities included VP Strategy for the Office Systems Division and for the Office Products Division, VP and General Manager Personal Computer Division, and a range of positions in marketing, international planning, product development, solutions development and program management.Russell P. Reeder, President, CEO and Chairman of the Board, Founder P rior to founding RightsLine, Reeder spent 12 years in information technology, both in sales management and software development. Reeder led the sales teams for several ERP and point solution vendors, including executive positions at Oracle Corporation. Reeder also spent several years in systems development and leading the build of financial and manufacturing applications for FORTUNE 500 companies including Mobil Oil Corporation, AT&T, Bank of America and Core States Bank. After creating the enterprise applications and e-Commerce strategy for U.S. Postal Service, Federal Reserve and Visa, Reeder moved into an executive position at RightWorks, a start-up backed by Sequoia Capital, where he established B2B web strategies for cutting-edge technology companies including Embion.com, Fasturn.com, Applied Materials and financial organizations including Silicon Valley Bank. As employee #18 at RightWorks, Reeder grew revenues from zero to $7 million in nine months. Two months later, 51% of RightWorks was sold for $600 million to Internet Commerce Group and then in Fall 2001, 100% was sold to i2 Technologies for $123 million. Reeder holds a BS degree in Computer Information Systems from James Madison University.David E. Leibowitz is Managing Partner of CH POTOMAC, a strategic ser vices company focused on the entertainment, media and technology industries. Mr. Leibowitz brings twenty-five years of experience in copyright, media, communications, and technology matters, as well as business issues facing the entertainment, new media, consumer electronics and information technology industries. Among other activities, Mr. Leibowitz serves on the Industry Advisory Boards of Peppercoin, 13 Colonies Software, and Neurok Optics. Earlier in his career, Mr. Leibowitz Co-Founded VERANCE and served as it Chairman. VERANCE offers innovative technology solutions to protect, manage, and monitor audio and audiovisual content, including broadcast monitoring and verification, copy protection and content management. Before that, Mr. Leibowitz was Executive Vice President and General Counsel of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), responsible for business and legal issues facing the industry with particular emphasis on how to position the industry to utilize new physical and electronic format systems. During this period, Mr. Leibowitz chaired the worldwide recording industrys International Steering Committee on DVD Audio, the RIAA New Technology and Multimedia Committee and the RIAA Legal Committee. Prior to his work at the RIAA, Mr. Leibowitz was a partner in the Washington, D.C., law firm Wiley Rein & Fielding.
