Timeline to Broadband Wireless - Delivering Rich Media to Handhelds
The first generation of applications for delivering media rich content into a mobile environment has appeared. Video on a PDA is here, but what does that mean in the race to bring wireless video to the market as a whole. Wireless broadband is definitely the killer app that will spawn a transformation of every digital device, from the PDA and cellphone to the at home PC. What can we expect in the transition to broadband wireless? What services can we expect to see and what relationships will likely emerge between the media companies, content companies and the device or networking companies? In this session, we will take a three year look at the delivery of video into the mobile.

Steven Canepa, Vice President Marketing and Strategy, IBM Global Media and Entertainment Industry As Vice President Marketing and Strategy, Global Media and Entertainment Industry, Steve Canepa is responsible for IBM's strategy, market-share, business attainment, industry solutions and product offerings for entertainment, sports, broadcast, cable, publishing and advertising customers worldwide. In addition to his management responsibilities, Mr. Canepa has participated in the structuring and negotiation of numerous consulting, services, product and partner agreements; leading the development of IBM's Global Media and Entertainment solutions business from startup to a profitable worldwide organization with over 250 members. In addition, he has developed the business strategy and plans for two Interactive WWW joint ventures and is a regular speaker at industry events, including keynote addresses at NAB and Broadcast Asia. Mr. Canepa has extensive knowledge of how the application of technology can be used to create value for an organization. He has consulted extensively with many senior executives regarding how they can enable new revenue sources, extend their brands, and create value by better managing, distributing and repurposing digital content; gaining better customer insights and knowledge by using interactive techniques -- linking their existing physical goods processes/infrastructure to their digital initiatives.

Diana Longarzo is vice president of international strategy and business development for the Walt Disney Internet Group (WDIG), leading strategic product development and business development for WDIG's mobile and broadband businesses. Longarzo brings to WDIG nearly 20 years of experience. She joined the company from Longarzo Consulting, a consultancy she founded that specialized in business strategy for entertainment and media companies such as Palm, Inc. and QBEO, Inc., an interactive television company. Before opening her own consulting practice, she was responsible for corporate development at Lightspan, Inc., a leading provider of innovative educational internet services and CD-ROM products. Longarzo was previously with The Walt Disney Company for more than a decade, most recently as senior vice president of new media development at Disney TeleVentures. She began her career at Disney with the Disney Channel and also has held posts with Twentieth Century Fox Television and Bain & Company. An active member of industry associations, Longarzo has been honored by the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing (CTAM) with its esteemed "Tami" award. She earned a Masters of Business Administration from Stanford University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematical Economics from Pomona College.

David Andrade, General Manager of Entertainment and Media for the Americas, Hewlett Packard: David is responsible for HP's Vision, Strategy and Execution for the E&M Industry. David's organization is dedicated to achieving steady growth of new revenue in the E&M marketplace by establishing Hewlett Packard as the industry leading powerhouse within the digital value chain that stretches from content creation to consumption. David and his organization are working with customers to move to more advanced interactive technologies that brings with it unprecedented divergence - a fragmentation beyond TV, radio and print into new modes of content acces(cable, satellite, DSL, and wireless) and new modes of content consumption (PC, handheld, PVR, iTV, and 3G telephony). David joined HP as General Manager of HP Global Invent in September 2000 after serving as Regional Director of Southern California for Sun Microsystems. David holds a bachelor's degree in marketing from San Jose State University. He serves as member on the Board of Trustees for The Foundation of The International Council of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Saranjit Saund, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, ActiveSky: As vice president of sales and marketing for ActiveSky, Saranjit Saund is responsible for managing strategic relationships and business opportunities with telecom and mobile operators, hardware manufacturers and content partners. Prior to joining ActiveSky, Saund spent nearly 15 years with high tech companies. Most recently, he served as vice president of business and product development for Virtual Purchase Card, an enterprise procurement company, where he solidified market positioning to secure early round funding in less than three months. Previously, Saund managed marketing and business development for ReachCast Corp., developing enterprise-level XML software applications for wireless application service providers. As director of business development, Saund also led CyberCash's IPO to a $2 billion market cap. He also honed his streaming media experience as founder and chief technology officer, Equity Interactive, directing the company to a successful merger with PictureTel in 1995. Previously, Saund served in product management for Xerox, where he helped guide the first commercial deployment of the company's STAR enterprise desktop productivity software, winning Xerox's Intrapreneur of the Year in 1987. Saund is an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Saund holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from Birla Institute of Technology, Pilani, India, and a master's degree in computer science from Penn State University.

Joyce A. Schwarz is an author/speaker/consultant and one of the leaders in the emerging entertainment and media arena. She heads JCOM, a new product launch and branding consulting firm located in Marina Del Rey, California. Joyce has created marketing and advertising campaigns for more than 100 consumer and B2B technologies and products ranging from emusic.com to projects for Philips, France Telecom & AT&T. She combines more than 20 years experience in advertising and marketing for international ad agencies such as Foote Cone & Belding with a masters degree in film from USC and extensive production experience in film, television, video and interactive. She wrote "Reinventing Hollywood" for the NAB in 1992 and then co-wrote "Multimedia: Gateway to the Next Millennium" in 1993, "How to Break Into the New Hollywood" in 1995. Her latest book is "Cutting the Cord: Guide to Going Wireless" Que Publishing, June 2002. Schwarz is well known as a business writer and colu! mnist for more than 150 articles in such publications as: Business 2.0, Conferenza, Digitrends.net, 'Christian Science Monitor", 'Sales and Marketing' (SAM), LA Times and more. She was the chair and organizer for the first Paris, France Internet/ITV conference from 1995-1997, Digital Day LA , 1993-1996 and is a popular keynote speaker at such conferences as the Invention Convention and the San Diego Computer Fair. She specializes in developing partnerships and alliances for emerging entertainment and new technologies.
