Beginning the Rollout of New Content and Services Arguably as important as the VCR or even cable itself, the arrival of DTV, with its ability to deliver virtually unlimited subscription content, has poised the entertainment industry on the precipice of massive growth. For a decade, industry leaders have speculated on the future of the 500 channel universe and now it is here. With DTV rolling out in communities across the country, the opportunity to innovate, to offer unique and exciting subscription and VOD packages will be the ongoing challenge for the industry. The entire universe of pay services will be up for grabs in the coming five years. The combination of new technologies, new services,new partnerships, content innovation, aggressive marketing, not to mention new investment will remake the landscape. DePrez joined the company to implement its new SVOD service offering, Starz On Demand. DePrez is responsible for taking advantage of the new "transactional viewing" opportunities to add value to Starz Encores core premium television business. A 20-year cable and new media veteran, DePrez came to Starz Encore from City Media LLC, which he founded to provide video server vendors and cable operators with programming and marketing support for video-on-demand rollouts. City Media also crafted market-specific trial and launch strategies for its clients. Prior to that, DePrez spent eight years as an executive with TCI Communications and United Artists Cable Television managing their respective pay-per-view operations and associated business development activities. He has headed western region sales and marketing for the Request Television PPV networks and served in similar roles for Group W Satellite and Daniels Cablevision. DePrez has developed an industry-wide reputation as a knowledgeable and successful professional in the area of transactional services development and deployment. His reputation, coupled with his experience and industry relationships, position him as an ideal candidate for keynote addresses and panel discussions on interactive programming services. DePrez currently serves on the BroadBand Plus (formerly known as The Western Show) Organizing Committee. DePrez resides in Highlands Ranch, Colorado with his wife, Susie, and their two children, Stephanie and Danny.Daniel York is Senior Vice President of Programming and Developme nt at iN DEMAND L.L.C. He is responsible for the companys pay-per-view and VOD programming, including theatrical film and event acquisition, program planning, scheduling and development for all existing content franchises and new programming properties. He also manages the networks event sales and operations department, and is involved in the acquisition and management of the companys sports programming. Prior to joining iN DEMAND, York spent 13 years at Home Box Office, serving most recently as Vice President and General Manager of HBOs Time Warner Sports/TVKO Pay-Per-View. There he was responsible for programming operations, distribution, marketing, sponsorship and content acquisition and was involved in the networks finance and production of its event programming. York and his staff also had responsibility for the affiliate relations and marketing on behalf of sister Time Warner company, World Championship Wrestling (WCW). He started is career at Home Box Office in marketing. He has also worked at WXYZ-TV (ABC) in Detroit, the National Association of Broadcasters in Washington, DC, and as a freelance television writer. York is a graduate of Michigan State University, earning Bachelors and Masters degrees. Currently a member of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), the National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE) and the Cable and Telecommunication Administration and Marketing Society (CTAM), York sits on the Board of the Broadband and Internet Security Taskforce, where he serves as Treasurer. Dan resides in Los Angeles with his wife Sherri and their two children.Julia Veale was named Vice President, Business Development, Showtime Digital Media Group, Showtime Networks Inc. in July 2001. Veale is responsible for SHOWTIMEs SVOD and ITV business development initiatives and oversees the development of revenue opportunities based on emerging digital media platforms. She is also responsible for the management of SHOWTIMEs digital media investments and strategic relationships. She first joined SHOWTIME in 1999 as Director, Business Planning and most recently served as Director for the Business Development group. Prior to joining SHOWTIME, she was a Director for General Instrument Corporations Corporate Business Development group. She also served as Vice President for European American Bank. Veale received her M.B.A from the J.L. Kellog School of Management at Northwestern University and holds a B.A. from Trinity College. Veale will continue to work out of SHOWTIMEs Manhattan headquarters. Neil Goldberg, Senior Vice President, Programming, TVN Entertanment: As SVP Programming, Mr. Goldberg oversees all programming initiatives for TVN, including content acquisition, scheduling and rights for PPV, VOD and NVOD. His appointment reasserts TVN's commitment to provide its affiliates with the most comprehensive programming offerings and services. Mr. Goldberg brings unsurpassed experience in VOD programming. As Vice President, Entertainment at DIVA, a leading VOD entertainment company, he spent more than five years overseeing all aspects of entertainment, including programming, acquisitions and licensing. He also maximized revenue streams through developing DIVAs PVR, SVOD and advertising on-demand (AOD) initiatives. Prior to DIVA, Goldberg developed a broad understanding of the entertainment industry having served as VP Production at Witt-Thomas Films, Worldwide Acquisitions for Warner Bros., and Business Affairs for Trans Atlantic Entertainment. John Gilles, Director of Interactive Television, TechTV: John Gilles is the di rector of interactive television at TechTV, where he manages interactive television product development. Previously, Gilles was the director of strategic development, as well as senior broadband producer and supervising Web producer. Prior to joining TechTV, Gilles was an online producer for The Site, a television show on MSNBC. Gilles also was a technology columnist and news reporter for Gannett Newspapers. He has published articles in Wired News, Web Review, Whole Earth Review, and many other magazines, websites and newspapers. He is the former managing editor of Technology Access Report, and has been quoted as a broadband and convergence expert in many trade and consumer publications, including The Wall Street Journal and the San Francisco Chronicle.Michael Stroud, Business Journalist & and iHollywood Forum CEO and Founder: Michael has been a professional business journalist for 18 years, is the co-founder of iHollywood Forum and iWireless World, and is a frequent moderator for Internet business forums and trade shows on digital entertainment and technology in Los Angeles and San Francisco including Pentons Internet Everywhere, Upsides Digital Living, Room, eTV World, iHollywood Forum, CES, NAB, Digital Hollywood, and MB5.
