Whether it is called DTV, ETV, TVs with Interactive Programming, on-demand TV viewing, or customized or Personalized TV, there are a group of companies who have set the stage for this next TV generation, and we are pleased to have them represented at this session Dr. Eduardo Pérez, V.P., Marketing, Media Excel, Inc. Ed Forman, Marketing Manager, ICTV Martijn Lopes Cardozo, Executive Vice President Distribution and Partnerships, GoldPocket David Jensen, Vice President of Business Development, Zetools Bill Niemeyer, Chief of Analysis and Research, DiMA Group, Moderator Colin Dixon is a Senior Consultant and Analyst with The Diffusio n Group where he focuses his practice on enhanced TV applications including Guides, iTV, iAD and Middleware in the cable, IPTV and satellite industries. He has held senior positions at companies such as Microsoft, Liberate and Oracle and is currently an Executive Consultant to the rich media industry working with companies like GuideWorks, Alticast and Myrio. He has overseen the successful delivery of products such as Electronic Program Guides and Video Servers and created Interactive TV Games services and Broadcast Interactive Systems. In addition to his experience in the rich media industry, he has extensive experience in the communications, networking and network management industries working at companies such as Novell and Bay Networks. Mr. Dixon has a Masters Degree from the University of Florida and has post-graduate business education experience from Stanford. He is a published author.Jeff Berenson, Senior Manager, BearingPoint, Inc.: Jeff Berenson is an industry veteran in telecommunications and networking. For over 20 years, Jeff has worked with both domestic and international operators and vendors in the Communications industry. Mr. Berenson specializes in enabling Telecommunications, Broadband, Cable, Satellite, and Consumer Electronics firms to build and deploy state-of-the-art emerging networks and technologies. His experience includes business opportunity analysis, systems design and integration, services operations, and consulting. Currently leading the North American Video practice for BearingPoint, Jeff advises clients on how to build, integrate, and deploy state of the art broadband and interactive television systems for commercial and consumer marketplaces. These systems incorporate emerging technologies such as IPTV, TCP/IP (Broadband), Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), and MPEG video distribution systems. His prior experience includes building and running OpenTVs Professional Services practice in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa for the delivery of systems integration projects and support services in Interactive Television, VOD, Broadband, and PVR technologies. Jeff provided these services to Set-Top-Box manufacturers, Cable MSOs, Satellite operators, and applications developers. Jeff has also worked on projects defining interactive application environments with technologies for web browsing on consumer devices and televisions utilizing the Device Mosaic embedded browser technology and has provided consulting to Cablelabs, evaluating, analyzing, and selecting technologies for the OpenCable (OCAP) specification. Today, Jeff is taking an active role in working with his clients to bring emerging technologies and services to the market. These include all digital cable networks, Commercial Broadband Services, DOCSIS systems and applications deployments, video-over-IP, including network based PVR (nPVR) technology and services. Bill Niemeyer, Chief of Analysis and Research, DiMA Group: Bill Niem eyer is the Chief of Analysis and Research of The DiMA Group. Bill provides DiMA Group clients and program members with research, information, analysis and insights to assist them in making critical tactical and strategic decisions regarding DVRs, VOD and other advanced TV services. Bill has been in the interactive and new media industry since 1991. Previous to joining The DiMA Group, Bill founded Centrimedia, a consultancy focused on DVR, VOD and Interactive TV and their impacts on television industry business models. His clients there included Fortune 100 firms and investment funds. Prior to founding Centrimedia, Bill was a key member of the executive team at Spiderdance, a leading provider of infrastructure and technology to television networks for creating and operating interactive TV programming. Venture-funded Spiderdance developed and deployed six groundbreaking and award-winning ITV enabled series for TV networks including "Weakest Link" for NBC, "No Boundaries" for WB and "webRIOT" for MTV. Bill has also been a member of the team at venture-funded firms in PC/platform gaming and 3D virtual community technologies. Bill is a member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. He is a regular panel moderator and speaker at industry events including the Consumer Electronics Show, NAB and Digital Hollywood.Martijn Lopes Cardozo, Executive Vice President Distribution and Partnerships, GoldPocket: As Executive Vice President of Distribution and Partnerships, Martijn Lopes Cardozo is responsible for developing and managing key strategic partnerships for GoldPocket. He oversees the distribution of GoldPocket's interactive television technologies to cable, satellite, telecom, and wireless providers. During his tenure at GoldPocket, Mr. Lopes Cardozo led the Company's entry into the wireless and operator business as SVP of Distribution and Product Development. Prior to GoldPocket, Mr. Lopes Cardozo was a Product Manager at Akamai Technologies, where he arranged and coordinated reseller agreements including a critical arrangement with WebTrends. He previously worked with EOS in London, Unilever in Germany, Shell International in Egypt and OC&C Strategy Consultants in the Netherlands. Mr. Lopes Cardozo holds a Master of Science in Applied Physics from the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School. Dr. Eduardo Pérez is currently the V.P. of Marketing at Media Excel, Inc. Along with his marketing responsibilities, Dr. Pérez also assists Media Excel in formulating the companys product strategies based on client needs and demands and strategic business alliances. Dr. Eduardo Pérez has nearly 20 years of experience in the multimedia development and solutions industry of which more than 15 years have been dedicated to providing unique high-quality real-time video and synchronized media solutions. He assisted in founding Media Excel in early 2000. Prior to Media Excel, Dr. Pérez worked for Intellinex, an Ernst & Young enterprise, where he was responsible for global deployment of multimedia services for corporate communications and training. He provided similar services to Galactic Group, Aperian, SBC Communications, Array Microsystems, VTEL, and National Instruments. Additional accomplishments include: Global multimedia network for eLearning with 99.98% up-time over a period of two years, provided nearly 3 years of live and on-demand web casting services for Yahoo! Broadcasting Services with 100% success rate, assisted SBC Communications in launching SBC Internet Services on-time and under budget, assisted SBC in the successful field trials and deployment of ADSL and related services (now Yahoo! DSL), and team member of the 1st ever live video stream over ISDN in 1994 (demonstrated at Comdex). A native from Mexico, Dr. Pérez immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 18 to pursue higher education. He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering in the areas of Telecommunications, Image Processing, and Real-Time Digital Imaging Systems, respectively, all from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Pérez holds a variety of patents on high quality video encoding, remote computing, and streaming delivery mechanisms. Dr. Pérez was a member of the 1976 Mexican Olympic Swimming team. David Jensen, Vice President of Business Development, Zetools: Da vid Jensen's 15 years of experience in the delivery of information, interactive media and entertainment has made him a leading member of many industries. Most recently in the consulting world, he built and led Razorfish's Broadband/Future Television practice, in addition to managing Razorfish's Media and Entertainment practice for North America. Under his leadership, his team helped more than 100 media companies with technology, strategy and branding solutions. Clients included: DirecTV, Sony, Columbia Tri-Star International, I-Blast, News Corp, Fox, HBO, RAI, BSKYB, Arte, ZDF, Tivo and Vivendi/Universal. Prior to Razorfish, Mr. Jensen worked in the education sector creating interactive and community network initiatives for the world's largest operating foundation, the J. Paul Getty Trust. Projects ranged from building community networks to launching broadband and interactive television channels for education. Partnerships included working with Library of Congress, California Arts Council, American Film Institute, Xerox PARC, GTE, NEC, Oracle, Liberate, PBS, Time Warner Music and Disney. Trained as an architect and media-maker, Mr. Jensen previously worked as a designer for architectural firms Richard Meier and Partners and Kohn, Pederson and Fox, New York; Zaha Hadid, London and Frank Israel, Los Angeles. He has also produced and designed films, music videos, interactive media and television for HBO, MTV, Universal, PBS, Fox and Alive, among others.
