Games and News & Information Content Distribution The conversation is about revenue generation, advertising, subscription and download purchase. Whether its the cable, satellite and Internet SVOD/VOD industry, the music streaming and MP3 industry, the radio industry or the information content industry, everyone is experimenting with forms of pay access to content. In the cable industry, the original subscription model is being gussied up with new packages, genre choices and greater access to content. In the music industry, the goal is to strike some a necessary answer to the upside down world of illegal P2P, and in the news and content industry, subscription models are being tested out every day to determine customer appetites. The question of which subscription or download model will serve which type of product is yet to be determined. In this session however, we bring together companies who are investing their futures on the answer. Prior to his involvement with MusicNow, Cohen was the founder of several organizations, including Sapean Corporation, a profitable international investment and consulting firm, and Cruise Technologies, the leading supplier of wireless network computers, where he served as chief operating officer. Along with being responsible for daily operations at Cruise, Cohen established successful distribution partnerships with IBM, Motorola, Telos and Wyse Technologies. Garys depth of experience can also be attributed to his position leading operations and finance at Zenith Data Systems. Scott Roesch, Vice President, Marketing, AtomShockwave: Scott is responsible for marketing, consumer revenue, creative direction, and site management at AtomShockwave. His career in Internet media spans 10 years, the first half as an editor-producer with pioneering Web properties Mr. Showbiz and ESPN.com, and the latter half with AtomShockwave. He joined AtomFilms in 1998 as a member of the startup's small launch team, and has since served the company in several capacities, including marketing, content acquisition, business development, editorial, and programming. Scott earned a BA in English from the University of Washington. Jan Steenkamp, CEO, Entriq: As CEO of Entriq, Jan Steenkamp brings to t he company his extensive experience in pay television operations, gained from a range of management positions within MIH Limited (MIHL) since 1985. Before joining Entriq, Steenkamp was CEO of MIHLs technology division and Chairman of OpenTV Corp. until August 2002. Prior to this, he was CEO of OpenTV, where he was instrumental in its development as the leading provider of cost-effective solutions for the delivery of digital interactive services to television viewers around the world. Previously, Steenkamp was the Commercial Director of Irdeto Consultants in The Netherlands, and held various management and new business initiative positions at both Irdeto and the MIH Group from 1985 to 1997. During that time, he initiated the introduction of pay television in Greece, managed a project team to establish pay television in Italy, worked with Shinawatra in Thailand to establish digital television, worked with Galaxy in Australia to launch the first DVB digital DTH platform in the world, and was active in the acquisition and development of the European Nethold operations in The Netherlands, Belgium, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Steenkamp studied electrical engineering at Witwatersrand Technicon in South Africa and has a television broadcasting background. Today, he is a sought-after speaker on the topics of Pay Media over the Internet and the future of broadband.Brad Singer is Executive Vice President of Products and Markets for PaymentOne, a leading online payment solutions provider. Brad leads the companys overall market strategy, new product initiatives, and partnership activities. Brad has over 18 years of business and general management experience in the media, payment and technology markets. Previously, Brad served as Vice President of Strategic Marketing and Content Licensing at NewsEdge, an early pioneer in content syndication, which achieved annual growth rates of over 40%, consistent profitability, and a successful IPO during his 8-year tenure (later acquired by Thomson Corporation). Brad also served as General Manager of the NewsPage.com business, an early innovator in on-line fee-based services. Most recently, Brad served as Vice President Marketing and Business Development at TeleKnowledge, a billing and e-commerce infrastructure company. Brad has also held management positions at Citibank and General Electric and served on the Dun and Bradstreet executive Advisory Board. He earned a BS in Computer Science and Economics from Tufts University, and holds an MBA in Finance from the Wharton Business School. Brad has been featured in the technology and business press, and has been a frequent speaker at industry events.David Pakman, President & CEO, eMusic / President, Dimensional Mobile Entertainment / Managing Director, Dimensional Associates: David Pakman is a Managing Director of Dimensional Associates, the parent company of eMusic, The Orchard, Dimensional Music Publishing (formerly DreamWorks Music Publishing) and Dimensional Mobile Entertainment. He also serves as President and CEO for eMusic and Dimensional Mobile Entertainment. Pakman is a pioneer and entrepreneur in the world of digital music. He was the Co-founder and President of Business Development and Public Policy at Myplay, Inc., the broadband application services company founded in 1999 that introduced the "digital music locker" and pioneered the locker category. After selling Myplay to Bertelsmanns eCommerce Group in 2001, Pakman was named Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and Public Policy for BeMusic, a division of Bertelsmann. Prior to Myplay, Pakman was an early principal force and co-creator of Apple Computers Music Group, co-founding the Macintosh New York Music Festival and co-producing the then-largest industry webcast to date, the 1997 GRAMMY Awards. After Apple, he became Vice President at N2K Entertainment. He served as a board member of the Digital Media Association (DiMA) and was co-chair of its licensing committee. Pakman has advised scores of companies in the digital entertainment space, and remains a board member of Knitting Factory Entertainment, and an avid musician and songwriter. Pakman has spoken at more than 100 events over the past decade, including Plug.in, Webnoize, Digital Hollywood, PFF Summit (Progress and Freedom Foundation), Paul Allen's conference, Billboard, Winter Music Festival, SxSW, NxNW, AES, NAMM, Leadership Music in Nashville, Macworld, Digital Music Summit, Music 2.0, MobileMusicCon, and more. He has testified in front of Congress on issues related to music copyright in a digital age, and has published in the American University Law Review.
