Whether its the cable, satellite and Internet SVOD/VOD industry, the music streaming and MP3 industry, the radio industry or the information content industry, everyone is experimenting with subscriptions. In the cable industry, the original subscription model is being gussied up with new packages, genre choices and greater access to content. In the music industry, the goal is to strike some a necessary answer to the upside down world of Napster, and in the news and content industry, subscription models are being tested out every day to determine customer appetites. The question of which subscription model will serve which type of product is yet to be determined. In this session however, we bring together companies who are investing their futures on the answer. As General Manager of AOL Music, Mr. Harrison oversees the number one online music destination with more than 15 million unique visitors per month. Through innovative programming initiatives including First Listen and First View, AOL Music has become the leading outlet for today's top artists to debut their songs and videos. Mr. Harrison is responsible for helping extend many of AOL Music's successful programming offerings and franchises to AOL Entertainment's other properties, which include Games, Movies, Music, Radio, Sports, Television and Ticketing. Previously, Mr. Harrison was the Executive Director of Music Industry Relations for the group, focused on extending the reach of music into the online space by creating innovative ways to maximize artists connection with a vast and growing audience of consumers who discover, experience and buy music on the Internet. In that role, he managed the groups day-to-day operations, working with AOLs more than 90 record labels, artists and manager partners to create a compelling music experience across AOLs leading music properties. Prior to joining AOL in July of 2001, Mr. Harrison worked at BMG Entertainment in distribution and, most recently, in the Corporate Marketing Group as Senior Director of the Online Marketing department, which he started in 1999. He oversaw BMG's online marketing activities, and helped form partnerships in an effort to deliver BMG artists to a mass audience online with companies including AOL, Yahoo, Lycos, Egreetings/American Greetings, BET.com, Collegeclub, RealNetworks and PlanetOut among others. Mr. Harrison also helped launch BMG's own Click2Music.com site, which reached an audience of 1M unique visitors per month, according to Media Metrix. Prior to joining BMG in 1993, Mr. Harrison worked in Advertising Sales at the San Francisco Bay Guardian Newspaper. He started in the music industry in 1987, working at Sam Goody.Don Teague, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for PaymentOne, th e Internet's leading end-to-end Payment Service Provider. Teague is responsible for driving overall corporate marketing and brand strategies, as well as business development for the company. Under Teague's leadership, PaymentOne's PhoneBill solution has become the number one payment platform of choice by leading Internet Service and Content Provider customers. He has been instrumental in building the framework for PaymentOne's single source e-payment solution model. Prior to joining PaymentOne, Teague was co-founder and vice president of Sales and Marketing for UptimeOne, an eCommerce application service provider (ASP). He was responsible for taking the company's revenues from zero to $3 million within the first year, and securing major clients such as Hewlett-Packard, 3Com and National Semiconductor, among other Fortune 500 companies. Teague brings more than a decade of experience in senior management marketing, sales and business development roles. Teague attended San Jose State University with a BS in Marketing and Human Performance.Michael L. Bebel, President and Chief Operating Officer, Napster Divisio n: Michael Bebel was named president and chief operating officer of Roxios Napster Division in May 2003. As COO, Mr. Bebel is responsible for overseeing the operations of the company's digital music division. Mr. Bebel took on this position after serving as president and CEO of pressplay where he led the effort to establish one of the first successful legitimate online music services. Over the past 12 years, Mr. Bebel has earned a reputation as an innovator and leader in the areas of digital distribution, asset management and strategic alliance development. Before joining pressplay, he served as executive vice president of the eLabs division of Universal Music Group (UMG), where he played a leading role in the formation of the pressplay joint venture. Prior to that, he served as senior vice president for strategic planning and business development at UMGs eCAT division, where he helped shape the landscape of various online initiatives and played a lead role in negotiating key joint ventures and strategic alliances. Mr. Bebel was brought to Universal from its then-parent company, Seagram, in January 1996 and served in a leadership capacity, focused on improving operations across the studio, theme park and music divisions. From 1991 to 1995, he held several financial management and business development positions at the Seagram Beverage Company in New York. Mr. Bebel holds an MBA in management and economics from the State University of New York at Binghamton and a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.Bernard Gershon is Senior Vice President and General Manager of ABCNE WS.com, the number one broadcast news Website. Mr. Gershon is responsible for overseeing all aspects of ABCNEWS.com, including editorial, content, design, production, advertising and marketing, and supervises staffs and newsrooms in New York and Seattle. Since he joined of ABCNEWS.com in 1999, the site has experienced tremendous growth in unique users and vaulted to the forefront of broadband video initiatives. During his tenure at ABCNEWS.com, Mr. Gershon has overseen operations during some of the biggest news stories in the six year history of the site, including coverage of the war in Iraq, the war on terrorism, the events surrounding September 11, 2001, the controversial 2000 presidential elections, and the impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton. In his four years at the helm of ABCNEWS.com, the site has been recognized with numerous prestigious awards for excellence in online journalism, including a 2002 Peabody Award, 1999 Sigma Delta Chi Award, and 2001 Edward R. Murrow Award. Mr. Gershon is acknowledged within the industry as a pioneer in streaming media. As early as 1995, Mr. Gershon started the first streaming media Internet site at ABC, ABCRadioNet.com. Most recently, on March 12, 2003, ABCNEWS.com launched ABC News Live, the webs first streaming news network. Also under Mr. Gershons direction, ABCNEWS.com introduced a standalone subscription service, "ABC News On Demand," which offers the latest video news content from ABC News, including World News Tonight, Nightline, and exclusive interviews from news magazines 20/20 and Primetime Thursday. Mr. Gershon started the first regularly scheduled Webcast for the Internet (SAMDONALDSON@ABCNEWS.com), and expanded that offering with the Internet-only Webcast, co-produced with the New York Times, "Political Points." Mr. Gershon also oversaw the creation and development of the Internet-exclusive investigative series, "Internet Exposé" hosted by ABC News' Chris Wallace. Previously, Mr. Gershon was vice president of ABC News Radio, responsible for all information programming produced for the ABC Radio Networks' 140-million weekly listeners. Under his direction, the ABC News Radio staff received the RTNDA's Edward R. Murrow award for Overall Excellence for four consecutive years. Before joining ABC News in 1993, Mr. Gershon was Associate Director, News and Programming for WCBS NewsRadio 88. He also served as News Director of WOR Radio, New York.Jason Hirschhorn, Senior Vice President, Digital Music and Media, MTV Networks: As Senior Vice President, Digital Music and Media, Jason Hirschhorn, is responsible for managing the online operations of MTV, MTV2, VH1, CMT, CTN and Comedy Central. He oversees the overall growth and strategy of digital music and media operations for the networks. Prior to being promoted to this position in November 2003, Hirschhorn was Senior Vice President of CMT.com and VH1.com. In his new role, Hirschhorn is responsible for overseeing the interactive strategies for MTV Networks, ensuring that each brand is in every media, including digital music, VOD, satellite, wireless and electronic devices. Prior to his appointment at VH1.com in May 2001, Hirschhorn had served as General Manager of Sonicnet.com since August 2000. During that time, Sonicnet.com set a new all-time traffic record and was consistently ranked as one of the top online music sites by Media Metrix. Before that, Hirschhorn was MTVis Vice President of Product Development for Sonicnet.com. Hirschhorn joined MTVi in March 2000 when MTV Networks bought Mischief New Media, a leading web site design and content development firm that he founded to serve the music industry. Hirschhorn subsequently founded several successful music entertainment destinations including RockOnTV.com, MusicStation.com, ShowbizWire.com, and MusicNewswire.com. Hirschhorn has a B.S. in International Business and Marketing from New York Universitys Stern School of Business. He is also on the board of Computers for Youth, which improves the educational, social and economic prospects for low-income students and their families by providing them with home computers and the skills to use them.Chris Kitze, CEO, Yaga: A proven entrepreneur with a successful trail of s tartups, Chris Kitze co-founded Yaga, Inc., a leading provider of advanced payment and commerce services, in September 2000. As CEO and chairman of the board, Kitze provides a strategic vision as well as extensive technology and electronic media expertise, from startups to multibillion-dollar market cap companies. Prior to Yaga, Inc., he was the CEO of NBC Internet, a company created in December 1999 as a result of the XOOM.com and Snap.com merger. Kitze also co-founded XOOM.com in September 1996, took it public in December 1998, and served as chairman of the board and secretary since its inception. With his Internet and marketing savvy, Kitze has started and sold three interactive companies. Prior to XOOM.com, Mr. Kitze co-founded Point Communications Corporation, a Web directory company that was acquired by Lycos in October 1995. Mr. Kitze remained and managed the Point division, as well as served as overall vice president of marketing for Lycos, where he helped take the company public with a $225 million valuation. Prior to founding Point, Kitze co-founded Aris Entertainment, which published interactive CD-ROM titles, including the award-winning MPC Wizard, MediaClips and Video Cube product lines. Aris Entertainment sold more than 2 million CD-ROM units in less than three years and was purchased by SoftKey International (now The Learning Company), a publicly traded, $300 million company, in June 1994. Kitze is a recent recipient of Israel's prestigious Albert Einstein Technology Award that recognizes path-breaking leaders who have pushed the envelope of technology in the service of mankind through their entrepreneurship and risk taking, enabling others to benefit from their cutting-edge technologies.
