| Saturday, January 10 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM Session A: DH23: Delivering Mobile Entertainment: Examining the Content & Technology Value Chain Without question, the hottest growth area in the technology space is the wireless space and this sector is quickly evolving from simple voice and communication tool, transforming itself into portals for content and entertainment. Handhelds are getting color and power, and wireless networks are getting rich media friendly features. The relationships between the device manufacturer, the telco or gateway, the infrastructure provider, platform or protocol developer and finally the content provider can be best understood as huge interlocking systems of ventures, partnerships and syndication relationships. In this session, we will try to understand how these relationships are evolving and what the business models and marketplace of the wireless portals and their content of the future will look like. She heads the team with whom applications developers, content providers and network operators interface to promote mobile media, music and messaging applications. In 2001 and 2002, Ms. Zilliacus group was instrumental in stimulating Multimedia Messaging (MMS) application development for Nokia's terminals as well as getting MMS applications to the mobile services market. In July 2002, the team also assumed responsibility for helping branded as well as non-branded mobile content developers and owners to develop mobile media and music services for Nokia's terminals. Before joining Nokia in August 2001, Ms. Zilliacus worked for Finnish telecommunications operator, Sonera, in several business and strategy development projects and positions. In 1999, she helped found Sonera Zed, the global mobile portal offering mobile value-added services. During two years as business development manager for Sonera Zed, she was responsible of various internationalisation, global partnering, business modeling and product development related efforts. Ms. Zilliacus holds a Masters Degree in Economics from Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration in Finland.Shawn Conahan, Conahan Consulting, is former president of Moviso LLC, a subsidiary of Vivendi Uni versal Net USA and the leading provider of mobile media products and services in North America. Prior to joining Moviso, Shawn was vice president and head of the mobile division at MP3.com, where he defined next-generation mobile applications to increase the value of the company's content and technology to its partners in the wireless arena. In addition, Shawn spent years at Universal Music Group, Gartner Group and Warner Group consulting firms. Shawn received his degree in Business Administration from California State Northridge University in 1992.Howard Gefen, Director, Mobile Operator Solutions, Mobile Devices Division, Microsoft Corporation: As Director of Mobile Operator Solutions, Howard Gefen is responsible for definition and implementation of Mobile Entertainment and Productivity Solutions for Microsoft Smartphone, Pocket PC Phone Edition and Pocket PC product lines. Howard has worked for Microsoft in the Mobile Devices Division for the past three years, both leading business development activity. Previous employment companies and positions held: VP Sales and Marketing Locate Networks; VP Marketing Acquisitions and Integrations, AT&T Wireless; VP/GM Prepaid Wireless, AT&T Wireless; Mr. Gefen has earned a BA, Government and Economics Connecticut College, New London, CT and MBA Olin School of Business, Washington University, St. Louis, MO Scott Andrews, Senior Director, Internet Licensing, BMI: As the Senior Director, Internet Licensing for BMI, Scott Andrews is responsible for negotiating and drafting license agreements with U.S. Internet, wireless and online gaming companies, developing and implementing sales and marketing strategies and music performance agreements for new media customers, and for representing BMIs repertoire and copyright clearance service to the internet community. Andrews is based in BMIs Nashville offices. Additionally, he is directly involved in many of BMIs new technology initiatives including BMIs Digital Licensing Center for online licensing of Internet customers; BMIs Electronic Music-Use Reporting System for broadcast radio station customers; and other initiatives designed to streamline business practices through the use of new technologies. He joined BMI in 1988 as the Broadcast Manager, Midwestern States, Media Licensing, and rose to Senior Director, Group & National Accounts, Media Licensing before segueing to the Internet Licensing department. Prior to BMI he worked for seven years in the broadcast industry, where he was involved in the launch of the cable network You-TV as well as serving as a Freelance Producer/Consultant for national television productions. He is member of the Board of Directors of the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing of Tennessee, a member of the Board of Governors of the MidSouth Chapter of NATAS and a member of the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters. He holds a B.A. in English/Communications from Waynesburg College. He has spoken at various industry panels, including the International Radio Idea Bank & Exchange Convention, Broadcast Cable Financial Management Association, West Virginia Broadcaster Convention and Church Music Publishers Association Convention. Hyder Rabbani, President and Chief Operating Officer, ARCHOS: Hyder is president and chief operating officer at ARCHOS, Inc., an industry pioneer and global provider of mobile multimedia solutions for business and personal use. At ARCHOS, Hyder directs the companys aggressive growth, through product sales and strategic partnerships centered on its award-winning video, audio and storage devices. Hyder holds 17 years experience in management, sales, channel marketing and business development in the technology industry, with more than 10 years driving global sales and strategic alliances for consumer products at Intel. While with Intel, Hyder oversaw the company's Europe, Middle East and Africa sales organizations, grew revenues more than 270 percent in 18 months, and managed 20 percent market share growth in these international regions. Hyder also was vice president of sales and business development at MUSICMATCH, a leader in digital music software and services. With MUSICMATCH, Hyder was responsible for the worldwide channel and the negotiations, marketing and engineering for all OEM programs. His work resulted in some of the MUSICMATCHs largest business alliances, and broad expansion of the companys channel program. Albert Chu, Vice President Business Developement & Wireless Specialist, PalmSource: Albert Chu has served as vice president of business development since April 2002. Chu is responsible for developing business relationships and creating strategic relationships with partners to extend the uses of the Palm OS platform into new and innovative product and service arenas. Chu works with major consumer electronics manufacturers, mobile operators, infrastructure providers and system integrators to build an ecosystem for PalmSource in the enterprise and wireless markets. From 1996 to 2002, Chu was the business development vice president at AT&T Labs, where he brought emerging technologies to market. In addition, he headed the corporate-wide OneComm Project Office, overseeing the product management, research and development, operations, and business development of a suite of unified communications services for AT&T business units and external service providers. From 1982 to 1996, Chu was at Apple Computer, where his last position was vice president of Corporate Marketing Alliances and Partnerships. His earlier responsibilities at Apple included Product Planning & Strategy vice president in the Personal Interactive Electronics Division, Marketing vice president in the New Media and Entertainment Division, and Japan Business Development director in Apple Pacific. He was responsible for the product marketing and product introduction teams for dozens of Apple's key products, including the Apple III, Lisa, Macintosh, Newton, and Apple's localized products for the Japanese market. Chu has a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University and completed the Advanced Executive Program at Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management. Joyce A. Schwarz is an author/speaker/consultant and one of the leaders i n the emerging entertainment and media arena. She heads JCOM, a new product launch and branding consulting firm located in Marina Del Rey, California. Joyce has created marketing and advertising campaigns for more than 100 consumer and B2B technologies and products ranging from emusic.com to projects for Philips, France Telecom & AT&T. She combines more than 20 years experience in advertising and marketing for international ad agencies such as Foote Cone & Belding with a masters degree in film from USC and extensive production experience in film, television, video and interactive. She wrote "Reinventing Hollywood" for the NAB in 1992 and then co-wrote "Multimedia: Gateway to the Next Millennium" in 1993, "How to Break Into the New Hollywood" in 1995. Her latest book is "Cutting the Cord: Guide to Going Wireless" Que Publishing, June 2002. Schwarz is well known as a business writer and colu! mnist for more than 150 articles in such publications as: Business 2.0, Conferenza, Digitrends.net, 'Christian Science Monitor", 'Sales and Marketing' (SAM), LA Times and more. She was the chair and organizer for the first Paris, France Internet/ITV conference from 1995-1997, Digital Day LA , 1993-1996 and is a popular keynote speaker at such conferences as the Invention Convention and the San Diego Computer Fair.
