| Thursday, January 9 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM Session A: DH5: The Networked Home & the Connected Consumer - How Technology Transforms the Future At its heart, the PC connected home is a powerhouse network delivering everything from voice, data and video services to every member of the household. Everything runs off the home information and entertainment server. Whether its a wirelessly connected home comprised of PDAs, laptops, desktops PCs, a Set-Top connection, IM devices, E-book reader, telephony system, a telewebbing device or an as yet to be determined tablet, the home is the domain of the PC. In this session, we will begin to explore what the future of the PC connected home will look like. Scott Burnett, Global Marketing Director, IBM Digital Media Group Ken Goldsholl, CEO, Prismiq Deborah Whitman, Director of Product Planning, Microsoft Windows eHome Richard Doherty, CEO, Envisioneering, Moderator Vincent Izzo is director of advanced home services over broadband for the Broadband Communications Sector of Motorola, Inc. In this position, Izzo is responsible for Motorola Broadbands advanced home services business. His areas of focus include product management, product marketing and business development. In this role, Izzo has developed commercial and equity relationships with fundamental broadband-service technology companies; defined the current product mix and the roadmap for the future home gateways and connected products; and is currently charged with running the partner/third party developer program for compelling applications and services. Previously, Izzo directed Motorolas home-networking activities and was senior manager of business development for Motorola Broadbands IP Networking Systems business unit. This included responsibility for developing partner relationships, creating commercial ties with other key organizations and securing equity participation in areas of strategic value, specifically in the area of IP data networking. From 1997 through 1999, Izzo served as the program manager for the Companys Horizon Developers Program. In this role, the first applications of interactive TV, Internet TV and on-screen program guides were integrated with the core audio and video functions of Motorola Broadbands set-tops. Prior to joining the Company, Izzo was director of marketing for ARINC, Inc., a communications company with products and applications helping advance the safety and efficiency of airline communications. In this role, he worked with other organizations to modernize aircraft communications for both commercial and general aviation aircraft and to assist with the FAA modernization of ground to air communications. Izzo holds a master of science degree from Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Lehigh University. Izzo is also a veteran of the United States Air Force.Bob Perry, Vice-President, Marketing, Mitsubishi Digital Electronics Amer ica, Inc.: As vice-president of marketing for Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America, Inc. (MDEA), Bob Perry is responsible for the overall marketing function of the corporation, including product development, marketing communications, government relations, industry policy, public relations, national retailer training and new technologies management. Bob joined MDEA in 1997 after a six-year tenure with Sharp Electronics Corporation, where he served most recently as the head of the Consumer LCD Products Division. Bob has also held zone manager and regional manager sales positions with Sharp Electronics. Prior to joining Sharp, Bob was the general manager and controller of Argo Furniture Corporation, as well as teaching economics, computer science and management at several colleges. He also spent 10 years in the U.S. Army in military intelligence, communications and engineering. Bob holds a bachelors degree in business administration from Columbia College and a masters degree in management from Webster University in St. Louis. Bob is a director of the CEA executive board. Bob also serves as the chair of the CEA video division board, has chaired the DTV Definitions Committee (twice), as well as the DTV Transition Policy & Strategy working group, the CEA 1394 Interface Working Group and DTV Picture Format Working group. Bob also serves as a director on the board of the Home Recording Rights Coalition, as well as a member of the steering committee. In addition, Bob is a director of the Home Audio Video Interoperabilty (HAVi) Corporation board.Deborah Whitman, Director of Product Planning, Microsoft Windows eHome: Deborah Whitman is the director of product planning for Microsoft's eHome initiative, where she devises plans for future versions of Windows for the connected home. She is a consumer and small business marketing professional, who launched Microsoft's bCentral small business portal. Before joining Microsoft, she directed marketing and product management for Intuit's Quicken products, and launched several new products in the Quicken product line. She was vice president of marketing for LinkExchange, a small business web marketing firm, and was a managment consultant with Booz, Allen & Hamilton, where she managed projects for consumer packaged goods and financial services companies. S. Scott Burnett, Global Marketing Director, IBM Digital Media Group : As Global Marketing Director for IBM's Digital Media Group, Scott Burnett is responsible for worldwide marketing strategy/planning and market development for IBM Digital Media solutions. Scott's role is focused on establishing IBM as a leader in the emerging digital media market place estimated by industry analysts to be upwards of $30 billion by 2004. His marketing managment duties include: develop market-driven strategies and business plans, align execution of offerings and programs and facilitate endorsement across IBM. He manages a global marketing team to develop, package and communicate Digital Media solutions to all industries under a program umbrella "Digital Media Factory" - an open-technology framework, within the e-business infrastructure, comprised of new technology, partners and services, to manage, store, protect, and distribute digital media. Before joining Digital Media, Scott served as Director, Business Development for Content Distribution in IBM's Global Media & Entertainment Industry where he was responsible for setting global strategy for media distribution and digital rights managment for IBMTom Flanagan is Director, Broadband Strategy for Texas Instrume nts' Broadband Communications Group. TI's broadband communications business includes cable modems, digital subscriber line (xDSL) modems, integrated access devices (IADs), Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) gateways, carrier infrastructure, and home and office wireless networking. Prior to this, Mr. Flanagan was Director, Business Development for Telogy Networks and Vice President Sales and Marketing for ADC Skyline. Mr. Flanagan also held various marketing, sales and business development positions during a 12 year career with Dynatech Communications. He holds a B.S. degree from James Madison University.Ken Goldsholl is the CEO of PRISMIQ, Inc., a California-based startup developing Networked Entertainment Gateways, the next wave of set-top boxes, digital entertainment centers, and related convergence devices that exploit broadband access and home networking. He was the founder and CEO of Atlas Communication Engines, Inc., which was acquired by audio and video conferencing equipment leader Polycom in December 1999. After key members of the Atlas team founded PRISMIQ (original name was Oxygnet), Mr. Goldsholl funded the company, which focuses on the hardware and software components that comprise the networked home. In addition to PRISMIQ, Mr. Goldsholl started and financed other start-up companies that provide critical technology needed to support the networked home, including Movidis, Inc., which is creating the first affordable single-rack high-end streaming media server; and Maverick Power Systems, which is focusing on power products that eliminate the need for annoying and clumsy wall-mount power adapters while providing network connections for small electronic devices. He has a BS in Electrical Engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology. |
