We got an inkling of it twenty years ago when the Walkman changed the way people listened to music, but we didnt understand just how it would emerge until a couple of hundred million wirelessly connected handheld devices got sold to the consumer in one year. That is a whole other story. As a result of the mobile explosion, music and the consumer experience is about to take on a whole other relationship. Music as ringtone, mobile device as retail provider, mobile device as radio player, mobile device as music library, the consumer will be fully immersed in a mobile music experience. In this session we will not only address the question of mobile device as a musical provider, we will address the issue of revenue generation in that process. With the industry experts in the session representing all sides of the mobile revenue question, it is bound to be informative. He is directly responsible for all relationships with digital partners and revenues generated in the U.S., as well as for coordinating the international digital business development in countries outside the U.S. through a regional presence in Europe and Asia. Mr. Gewecke oversees BMG's current U.S. Digital Marketing and Licensing Group, and continues to oversee his current direct reports from Sony's mobile business as well as Sony Music's EMD business. He lead the GDB's support of Sony's international digital efforts, working closely with the regional and territory teams, with the ERO team reporting directly to him. Previously Mr.Thomas served as Senior Vice President, Business Development, Sony Music Digital Services, since 1999.Richard Conlon is the Vice President of Marketing and Business Developme nt, Media Licensing for BMI. Conlon leads the new media licensing group at BMI which is responsible for generating royalty revenue from digital media platforms on behalf of BMI represented songwriters, composers and music publishers. He also supervises BMI's marketing and communications outreach to BMI's traditional media customers including radio, television and cable. Under his direction, BMI's digital licensing group has negotiated agreements for a wide variety of leading digital media properties including Yahoo, MSN, MP3.com, AOL, pressplay, and others. In addition, the team has negotiated royalty agreements with leading mobile entertainment providers for ringtones and other entertainment and information services delivered to cell phones . Conlon's team also spearheaded the first music industry online licensing utility, The Digital Licensing Center, offering totally electronic click - through copyright licensing agreements. He is often cited as an industry source on digital media rights issues in leading trade and consumer publications including The New York Times, Forbes, USA Today, Reuters, The Associated Press, Wired, The Financial Times, The Industry Standard, Billboard, KPFK-AM , The Chicago Tribune, C-Net and many others. Prior to joining BMI, Conlon was a television marketing consultant to SET, Viacom's Pay Per View production and marketing arm where he managed trade and consumer marketing and promotion for live music and sporting Pay Per View events. He also served as Vice President Affiliate Sales and Marketing for The Learning Channel cable network. He holds a Masters Degree in Communications Management from The Annenberg School of Communications at The University of Southern California and B.A. in English from Boston College.Michael A. Brochu, President and CEO, Loudeye: Mr. Brochu brings over 20 years of senior level experience to Loudeye including top management, executive and directorship positions in emerging growth technology, software and digital entertainment companies. Prior to joining Loudeye, Mr. Brochu served as chairman, president and chief executive officer of Primus Knowledge Solutions, Inc., a Nasdaq-traded e-business and e-service solution provider. Under his leadership, he transformed the company from a small business with a single product into a publicly traded company with a market-leading software suite, a European presence, and a Global 2000 customer base. Mr. Brochu guided Primus into becoming one of the first technology companies in the country to transfer its client-server software solutions to the Web. Mr. Brochu was instrumental in engineering the 2004 sale of Primus to ATG to create the industrys most complete e-business solution platform. Prior to joining Primus, Brochu was the president of Sierra On-Line Inc., one of the world's largest publishers of interactive entertainment, educational and home productivity software. At Sierra On-Line, Mr. Brochu led efforts to grow revenues by over 300%, leading to the sale of Sierra On-Line to CUC International for $1.1 billion. He currently serves on the boards of the WSA, the largest technology trade association in Washington State and several public and private technology companies. Brochu also sits on the advisory boards for two venture capital firms. Antony Bruno, Editor, Digital/Mobile, Billboard Magazine, Los Angeles: Antony joined Billboard in 2005 to cover the emerging field of digital entertainment--including music downloads, MP3 players, ringtones, wireless downloading, P2P, videogames and interactive technologiesfor both the weekly print magazine and online at www.billboard.biz. He also oversees the programming activities for Billboards MECCA mobile entertainment conferences. Before joining Billboard, Antony was Assistant Vice President of Wireless Internet Development at CTIAThe Wireless Association. Previously, Antony was Senior Writer with RCR Wireless News in Denver, where he spearheaded the trade newspaper's wireless Internet coverage. Prior to RCR, he was an editor at various community newspapers and was a Colorado-based freelance adventure travel journalist, and remains an outdoor enthusiast. He holds a Bachelor's of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Journalism. |
