Mobile Gaming Experience - the Next Generation in Games & Devices
As the portable games industry evolves into a global mobile gaming experience, the confluence of enhanced handsets and platforms, the increasing broadband delivery infrastructure and the acceptance on the part of the consumer, presents a mobile universe of untold possibilities. To this point, the games industry has only just begin to explore the cutting edge technologies in developing mobile games and device sophistication – it is just emerging from its first generation. With that in mind, one can only imagine what the world of mobile games as a consumer experience will look like in two or three years. Mobile gaming and the portable device is the killer combination in the making and in this session, we begin to explore what that future world will look like.

Mike Yuen, Senior Director, Gaming Group, QUALCOMM Internet Services, QUALCOMM Incorporated: Mike Yuen is Senior Director, Gaming Group, for QUALCOMM Internet Services. He manages the team chartered with defining and driving the BREW gaming experience as well as ensuring the platform is profitable and viable for game publishers and developers. Prior to founding the Gaming Group in 2005, Yuen led the BREW Developer Relations team that is responsible for signing up companies such as Microsoft, AOL, Yahoo!, Disney, Sony, and Electronic Arts to deliver consumer and business applications to users around the world. He previously held positions with Accolade, GTE Interactive Media, Hammerhead Entertainment, AMD, and NCR. Yuen is a member of the advisory boards for Game Developers Conference (GDC) Mobile and Floodgate Entertainment and was a member of the founding board of directors for Mobile Entertainment Forum (MEF) Americas.

Gregory Graham, Director of Product Marketing, Gaming for Americas & EMEA, WiderThan, Inc.: Greg Graham’s experience in the wireless industry spans more than eleven years with companies such as McCaw Cellular One, AT&T Wireless, Ericsson, and Sony Ericsson with roles in sales, marketing, and product management. His humble beginning includes selling mobile phones out of the trunk of his car for Cellular One, deploying some of the first kiosks for AT&T Wireless in the U.S., and eventually the successful build out of Sony Ericsson’s mobile content in North America. In addition, Greg played a key role in the deployment of the Mophun platform to major U.S. mobile carriers, as well as the unique brand placement of the P910 & T610 handsets that appeared in the console and PC versions of Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow. As an avid gamer for over 25 years, Greg has acquired a deep understanding for what consumers really want when they sit down to enjoy a game. Since joining WiderThan, Greg has served as the lead in building out the company’s international gaming division. He is currently focused on sourcing and developing new business opportunities for the next generation of mobile gaming.

Brian Wolkenberg, Games Lead, Global Entertainment Solutions, Motorola Mobile Devices: As Games Lead within Motorola's Global Entertainment Portfolio Planning team, Brian Wolkenberg is responsible for bringing superior, feature-rich, wireless experiences to market. With a focus on product planning and ecosystems, Wolkenberg collaborates with technology, service, and content partners to drive Motorola's portfolio of mobile entertainment devices. For three years Wolkenberg has delivered end-to-end entertainment solutions to Motorola devices worldwide, including games, music, and personalization. He drove initiatives with internal and external partners - from definition through go-to-market planning. Wolkenberg began his career at Motorola as business development manager in 2000 after earning dual graduate degrees in Materials Science and Engineering and Management as a Fellow in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Leaders for Manufacturing Program. In this role, Wolkenberg supported worldwide alliances including technology licenses, co-development, joint marketing, and equity investments. Prior to entering the Leaders for Manufacturing Program, Wolkenberg served as a development engineer for Quantum Corporation. Wolkenberg earned his undergraduate degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Cornell University, graduating cum laude with honors. He currently serves on the Operating Committee of the Leaders for Manufacturing Program.

Doug Twilleager is the Chief Architect of the Game Technologies Group at Sun Microsystems. Doug has been working with mobile game developers and wireless carriers over the past 3 years to help make Java the best platform for mobile game development. Prior to working in the Game Technologies Group, Doug's focus was on graphics technologies working on products such as Java 3D and OpenGL. He also spent time in the graphics research group at Sun. During his 16 years at Sun, he has also worked on technologies such as XGL, the X server, and the X11/NeWS server. His reseach interests include advanced rendering techniques and programmable shading.

Jill Braff, General Manager of North America & Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, Glu Mobile: Game industry veteran Jill Braff leads Glu Mobile's corporate and consumer marketing initiatives, including co-marketing programs with licensors and carriers. Braff most recently consulted with Sega of America as interim vice president of marketing and as a creative director at Konami of America. She also worked with Sprint on its entry into 3G wireless gaming. Prior to that, Braff held senior marketing positions at Photopoint Corporation and MyFamily.com. She also held positions at The Learning Company, Griffin Bacal and Nintendo of America. Braff has a B.A. from Colgate University.







Matthew Bellows, General Manager & Vice President Marketing, Floodgate Entertainment: Matthew is responsible for the operations, sales and marketing of Floodgate Entertainment, a top mobile games developer based in Boston, Massachusetts. Before joining Floodgate, Matthew led Gamespot’s mobile entertainment initiatives, including the development of a mobile games distribution service called PlayNow. He arrived at Gamespot (a division of CNET Networks) through that company's acquisition of Wireless Gaming Review. Matthew was the co-founder, editor and publisher of WGR (WGamer.com), the leading publication for mobile entertainment consumers. While leading WGR, he grew revenues to $1.5 million, distributed content through Verizon, Sprint, AT&T and Ziff-Davis, and formed profitable relationships with industry leaders like Qualcomm, Nokia, JAMDAT and others. Before starting Wireless Gaming Review, Matthew managed the team responsible for 4,000 advertising contracts that drove $30 million in annual revenue for Engage, Inc. Bellows received his MBA with high honors from the Olin School of Management at Babson College.

Curt Feldman, News Director, CNET Games & Entertainment: Curt Feldman, News Director of CNET Games & Entertainment, is responsible for developing the strategy and day to day operations of the news desks at GameSpot, MP3.com, and TV.com. Feldman has been covering the game beat for the past eight years. Prior to his current role, Feldman was Editor-in-Chief of Imagine Media's Games Business. Before that, he worked at a number of consumer and trade publications including Travel & Leisure, Entertainment Weekly, Colors, and ADWEEK. Feldman is also the Executive Director of the E3 Expo Conference Program, where he designs and produces a program of panels, interviews, and lectures. Each year, more than 150 industry leaders from the creative and corporate ranks participate as speakers. The conference draws approximately 2,000 attendees.
