The numbers are still coming in, but digital upgrades are approaching 40 million homes. Soon the majority of homes will have access to the advanced set-top features only dreamed about a few years ago. The set-top as 500 channel universe, set-top as broadband connection, set-top as on-demand service, as PVR and time-shifting device, set-top as interactive terminal and communications device. Maybe we should rename DTV Set-top, the Entertainment Super Appliance, because it will be about ten things more than a TV. Lipson has focused on media and entertainment for 20 years. Since 1996, his consultancy provided strategic support for a range of television programmers and companies including Court TV, Agency.com and Incanta. Lipson spent the six prior years with Century Communications, where he was vice president of programming and advertising. His career began with ten years in television production. Paul Sherer, Co-founder & CTO, Arroyo: Prior to founding Arroyo, Paul was Senior Vice President of Technology and CTO at 3Com, responsible for overall technical and IP strategy. Paul played a key role in architecting and delivering several technologies of industry-wide significance: The Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS), Demand Protocol Architecture (DPA), Parallel Tasking, Priority Access Control Enabled (PACE) for multimedia over Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, and Secure Login. Paul was the founding chairman of the Fast Ethernet Alliance and Editor-in-chief for the Fast Ethernet Standard (802.3u). He holds approximately 30 U.S. patents in the areas of Networks Protocols, Packet Switching, Access Optimization, Quality of Service, Client Optimization, Network Physical Layers, Network Security, and Application Software Optimization. Paul started his networking career at Masstor Systems Corp in 1982 where he designed and implemented a transparent LAN deployed hierarchical storage management system. Shelly Palmer is an inventor, technologist, award-winning composer and t elevision producer. He is President/CEO of Advanced Media Ventures, a technology and marketing consulting practice that features an award-winning creative services and production department. He is the creator and executive producer of HotPop, a teen lifestyle and music show currently airing on Starz/Encore's WAM! Network as well as the patented inventor of Enhanced Television (Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Monday Night Football). Mr. Palmer is 1st Vice President of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, NY. He created and oversees the Advanced Media Technology Emmy Awards and is the chairman of the national Emmy Advanced Media Committee which is responsible for honoring excellence in the science and technology of the media business.William J. Holmes, Vice President Product Management, Consumer Electronics, DivX: Mr. Holmes is responsible for directing product affairs for DivX, Inc.s consumer electronics (CE) business unit. These duties include the development of overall CE business strategy, management of product launches and product delivery, as well as general management of the DivX CE unit. Mr. Holmes has extensive experience in creating, developing and marketing first generation product offerings. Prior to working at DivX, Mr. Holmes served as Director, Product Management & Marketing at Yotta Yotta, a technology company in the forefront of high capacity distributed data storage. At Yotta Yotta, Mr. Holmes provided oversight in all phases of product development, working directly with prospects, clients, customers, OEMs, marketing, business development and engineering to carry out the companys implementation of the newly developed high capacity storage platform. Previous to his work at Yotta Yotta, Mr. Holmes was Executive Director, Product Development & Marketing at Digital Entertainment Solutions (DES), a privately funded company that provides digital media solutions to major entertainment industry clientele. At DES, Mr. Holmes chief responsibility was to direct product development for the companys global broadband content delivery platform. Mr. Holmes has also consulted in digital media, streaming media and website development. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and graduated cum laude from Trinity University. Anna Hunt, Research Director, Digital Consumer & Broadband Research Group, IMS Research: Ms. Anna Hunt, research director and senior market analyst with IMS Research, manages the companys Digital Consumer & Broadband research group. She is primarily responsible for the analysis of digital television markets on a worldwide basis, in addition to overseeing the direction of the groups research focus in consumer and broadband industries. Ms. Hunt areas of expertise include digital set-top boxes, DVD recorders, digital terrestrial television, high-definition TV, and European TV markets. Prior to joining IMS Research, Ms. Hunt was the marketing and communications director for the Americas region at ICOM Informatics. She has over six years of industry experience in market research, MARCOM, and branding in enterprise technology sectors. She has an International Business degree from The University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from St. Edwards University. |
