Targeted Search: Aggregating Markets – Content and Advertising
With hundreds of millions of consumers addressing their need for daily information, entertainment and contact with the outside world via the global broadband highway, their gateway to information, their tools for navigation, will define much of that experience. More and more, the idea of search is being replaced by an definition that search is a tool to access or address all issues of information, choice and the boundaries of experience. The day of turning on your television and turning to a channel will soon be replaced by an intelligent navigation tool that will assist the consumer in reaching entertainment, information as well as commerce. Broadband will be a concept that defines all communications platforms, from TV and cable to computer, handheld and other mobile devices. In this session we will begin a discussion, that is likely to take place at every event we hold into the future of how the consumer with search or navigate through their desired universe of activity.

Perry Solomon, Senior Director, Media Business Development, FAST Search & Transfer: Perry Solomon has over 10 years of experience in the media & entertainment, technology and Internet industries, helping companies develop and implement growth strategies. Most recently, Perry was a founder and Vice President of Strategy and Products at Peppercoin, a venture-backed electronic payments software company, where he led the development of Peppercoin’s business and technology strategy and product roadmap. Previously, Perry served as a director in the Content Bridge business unit at Inktomi Corporation and also served as product manager at Adero, Inc., a start-up content delivery network, where he built a globally-distributed e-commerce service for small and medium-sized digital merchants. Perry was also a Strategic Change consultant in the Entertainment, Media & Communications practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He began his career as an investment banker with Peregrine Capital in Hong Kong and with Salomon Brothers in New York, where he advised telecommunications/media companies on mergers and acquisitions and fundraising. Solomon received a bachelor's degree in foreign service from Georgetown University and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

Ben Wright, Director, Channel Strategy and Development, Yahoo! Search Marketing: Ben Wright is the Director of Channel Strategy and Development in the Southwest for Yahoo! Search Marketing. He is responsible for developing strategic relationships with both search engine marketing and traditional advertising agencies to strengthen their marketing campaigns through the integration of search. A U.K. native, Wright joined the company in 2000 and played a key role launching the company’s business to International markets. Since then, he has held a variety of sales and management positions. Most recently, he spent the last three years as Sales Director for Platinum Sales, an account management team tasked with supporting Yahoo! Search Marketing’s medium and larger clients. Under his leadership, the team’s revenue and staff have tripled. Previously, he worked with the Diamond Account Management team overseeing Fortune 500 clients such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Gateway. Prior to joining Yahoo! Search Marketing, Wright held various promotions and operations management roles in the U.K entertainment and hospitality industry. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Advertising Management, with honors, from Bournemouth University.

Steven E. Marder, CEO, Eurekster, Inc.: Steven is Chief Executive Officer and a co-Founder of Eurekster, Inc. With significant experience in both the traditional media and technology industries and as a serial entrepreneur, Steven has almost two decades of professional experience as a business development/ corporate development executive, venture catalyst, strategic advisor and attorney. In addition to executive experience with companies such as EMI Music, Compton’s NewMedia/Tribune Company and global venture catalyst Double Impact, Steven co-founded and is on the Board of enterprise search company S.L.I Systems, co-founded and managed the North American operations of Gramercy Venture Advisors, co-Founded indie recording company Metropolis Records and was Chairman/CEO/co-Founder of public company eMemberDirect, Inc./PetPlanet.com.


Brian Lent, CEO, Medio Systems: Brian co-founded Medio Systems in 2004 from his role as an Entrepreneur-In-Residence at Mohr Davidow Ventures. Previously the founding CEO of Intelligent Results, a business analytics software company, Brian also held various senior technical and marketing management positions at Amazon.com leading efforts in data mining, data warehousing, CRM, and e-commerce search engines. Prior to Amazon, Brian was a principal and Director of Applications at Junglee (acquired by Amazon.com) pioneering new internet database technologies. As an NSF and Department of Defense ONR Fellow, Brian held various research and development positions at IBM Almaden Research Center and Silicon Graphics. At Stanford, Brian co-founded the MIDAS (Mining Data At Stanford) group in 1994, the lab that spawned the Google crawler and search engine. He has contributed to several professional publications and is a patent holder on the topic of Data Mining, Information Retrieval and Database Systems. Brian sits on a number of technology advisory boards in the areas of search, advertising and customer analytics. Brian holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Nevada Reno, M.S. and Ph.D. Candidacy in Computer Science from Stanford University.

Bob Fogarty, VP of Sales and Business Development, PodZinger: With a 12-year track record of rapidly growing sales of high tech products, Bob brings a high level of expertise and success to PodZinger’s business development and marketing. Prior to joining PodZinger, he directed marketing and business development at Teradyne, growing the core product line to the number-one market share in 2005. Previously, Bob led business development for Empirix, a spinoff of Teradyne and the leading provider of Web application and network infrastructure test and monitoring solutions. At Empirix, Bob successfully grew new product sales in the video streaming, storage networking and VoIP markets. Prior to Empirix, Bob held sales, management and product marketing positions at Teradyne and engineering positions at GE. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School and a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University.

David Marks, CEO/President. Loomia: David Marks is CEO and co-founder of Loomia. Among his many roles, he heads up product development and oversees the strategic vision for the organization. He has led technical teams and developed strategic software solutions for over 10 years. Previously, David was a founding member, architect, and product manager of Modulant Solutions, a pioneering semantic interoperability firm. David has also created technical solutions for Fortune 500 companies as a principal engineer at Vivid Studios, which was acquired by Modem Media in 2000. David has a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Manish Chandra, CEO and Founder, Kaboodle: Manish Chandra is the founder and CEO of Kaboodle, a new start-up delivering innovative search solutions for online shopping, travel and research. Prior to Kaboodle, Manish was the VP of Marketing at Versant (NASDAQ: VSNT). Before Versant, Manish was part of the executive team at Versata that grew the company from 8 to 600 employees and took it public in March 2000. Manish also held R&D and Product Management Roles at Sybase (NYSE:SY) and Intel (NASDAQ: INTC). Manish is a charter member of TiE and chairs the TiE SIG on Internet. Manish holds an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley Haas School, an MS in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Technology from IIT Kanpur, India.

Sharon Wienbar, Managing Director, BA Venture Partners: Venture capital allows Sharon Wienbar to combine her many talents and interests: an engineer's excitement about the possibilities of new technology, a consultant's disciplined, analytical vision of markets, and an entrepreneur's passion to make new products come alive. Sharon brings these qualities together to build traction for business and consumer software and services companies at BA Venture Partners, which she joined in 2001. She helped Bellamax and Teros identify and target cost-efficient, leadership market segments for their technologies. With her counsel, FaceTime expanded its strategy and technology development and acquired international operations. She supported Biz360's transition from an analytic tools company to a market information services model. Sharon is famous for nabbing her investment in Sorrent by pushing the CEO to gain market share more aggressively, and she has worked closely with the company to drive international success. Sharon sits on the boards of Bellamax, Biz360, Facetime Communications, Glu Mobile, Merchant Circle, Myelin Repair Foundation, and Reply.com. Prior to BAVP, Sharon spent 15 years at Critical Path, Amplitude Software, Adobe Systems and Bain & Company. Among her varied responsibilities, she directed marketing strategies and operations, integrated product and service businesses following acquisitions, managed the application of technology to Pacific Rim and European markets, and negotiated complex intellectual property licenses. With a BA and MA in Engineering from Harvard University, and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, Sharon has the expertise and background to ensure her companies get traction in their markets.
