Embracing the Connected Consumer - Entertainment, Content and Technology - From the Digital Home to the Mobile and Wi-Fi Universe
In the six years since the burst of the technology bubble, an amazing thing has happened, the technology industry has once again, perhaps more quietly this time, transformed the relationship of the consumer to communications, media, entertainment and technology. . Whether its a wirelessly connected home comprised of unlimited content via DTV and HDTV, PDAs, laptops, desktops PCs, a Set-Top connection, IM devices or telephony system; a broadband mobile device, a fully loaded media friendly car, a broadband workspace or public space, the consumer is connected all the time, sending or receiving information and content. In this session, we will explore what it means to create and enable that fully connected universe.

ANETTE SCHAEFER. Director, Broadband & Media Europe, Yankee Group: As director of the Broadband & Media Europe Decision Service, Anette Schaefer manages all research and consulting. Schaefer extensively monitors consumer market developments and the competition in the media industry. She analyzes the technologies and the overall market convergence, strategies and infrastructure. Prior to joining Yankee Group, she worked 15 years as a management consultant in the United States and Europe. Schaefer advised clients from the cable, TV, media and investment industrysuch as Disney, Universal, Bertelsmann, AOL Time Warner and NBCin market entrance strategies, business planning and marketing of new services. She also participated in the M&A of cable, telecom as well media companies and was responsible for the implementation. Schaefer has extensive knowledge in the areas of business case development, commercial due diligence, competitive benchmarking, market research, consumer marketing strategy and the overall structure of the global media, entertainment and broadband industry. She also participates regularly as speaker on conferences and is member of international industry focus groups. Schaefer holds a M.A. degree of design and communication from University of Bielefeld.
Trevor Kaufman, CEO, Schematic: Trevor has guided Schematic as it has become o ne of the fastest growing and most innovative interactive agencies in the world. Over the last seven years, the agency has played a central role in the convergence of media and technology, developing groundbreaking projects on the Internet, interactive television, game consoles, and mobile devices, and won countless awards. Under Trevors leadership, the firm has grown from a single-digit staff to over 175 professionals worldwide. Trevor joined Schematic after founding and serving as co-CEO of Kaufman Patricof Enterprises (<kpe>), a successful New York-based web design and consulting firm backed by Grey Advertising. Trevor is featured regularly as a technology expert in numerous business, trade and broadcast media outlets. He has been recognized as one of The Hollywood Reporters "Next Generation," featuring the 35 top Hollywood executives 35 and under, and one of Newsweek's "Net 50: The Fifty People Who Matter Most on the Internet."
David Keeley, Chief Technology Officer, Europe, Middle East, and Africa, Connected Home, Motorola, Inc.: David Keeley brings more than 30 years of broadband communications experience to his position as Chief Technology Officer of Motorola Connected Home division in EMEA. In this role he is responsible for the companys strategic technical developments and product applications throughout the EMEA region. Mr. Keeley came to Motorola in 1989, when the company acquired General Instrument. Mr. Keeleys work at Motorola and General Instrument was preceded by managerial positions at Texscan and British Telecommunications, where he developed advanced broadband networks. He was elected President of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers in 1995, and is a member of the CENELEC and the British Standards Institute technical standards committees. He is also a board member of the European anti-piracy organization, AEPOC.
Claudia Ceniceros, Senior Director, Media and Content Strategy, Cisco Systems, Inc.: Claudia Ceniceros directs Ciscos media entertainment initiatives and cross-divisional efforts in digital media strategy and business development. Claudia identifies investment opportunities in leading-edge companies in networked entertainment and is charged with communicating the companys digital media vision and strategy to partners. Before assuming her current duties, Claudia ran corporate public relations at Cisco. Prior to joining Cisco, Claudia was vice president of corporate communications for Acclaim Entertainment, a developer and publisher of software for a variety of gaming platforms. She also held executive positions at ABC Television Network and Robinson Lerer & Montgomery/Sawyer Miller Group. At ABC, she launched network initiatives such as the World Cup HDTV programming and "Disney's One Saturday Morning." At Robinson Lerer & Montgomery, she managed entertainment accounts that included Time Warner, Six Flags, Nickelodeon, MTV Europe, Philips Media and The Special Olympic Games. Claudia graduated from the University of Illinois, Chicago, with a B.A. in philosophy and political science. Memberships: PR Seminar 2004, Arthur W. Ciaran Quinn, Vice President, EMEA, Entriq: Ciaran Quinn has been Vice President, EMEA for Entriq, since 2002. He has extensive international experience in Internet, digital television and high-tech-related business fields, having been involved in Internet-related business since its emergence in Europe, and digital interactive TV since 1998. Before joining Entriq, Quinn co-founded VEO (Virtual European Office, Limited) in 1997, a European technology business development firm consulting to industry leaders including eBay, Travelocity, Infoseek and Netscape. In March 2000 he negotiated the sale of VEO to a UK plc. Following the Internet market crash, he then led the re-purchase of VEO and reorganization of VEO in 2001, generating significant value for the new shareholders. Prior to joining VEO, Ciaran worked with technology firms in sales, international business development and product marketing. Quinn holds an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley (where he was MBA President) and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy (NY, USA). He has published technical papers with various American Engineering Associations and was editor-in-chief of VEO's twice-monthly e-newsletter on digital Europe for 5 years. He has been on the Board of AFDESI, the French interactive TV association, where he co-founded the ITV Awards, and on the boards of public and private firms.
Scott Smyers, Chairman, DLNA Board of Directors, Vice President, Network and System s Architecture Division, Platform Technology Center of America, Sony Electronics: Mr. Smyers serves as the chairman of the Board of Directors of Digital Living Network Alliance and as President of DLNA Corporation. Aside from his DLNA duties, Mr. Smyers is also Vice President of the Network and Systems Architecture Division of the Platform Technology Center of America at Sony Electronics. Mr. Smyers particular area of focus is system architecture, system I/O and interfaces. Through his leadership as chairman of the 1394 Trade Association's AV Working Group over the course of seven years, Mr. Smyers has served a pivotal role in bringing about a suite of standards that define consumer device discovery and control. Mr. Smyers now also serves as the Chairman of the CE Linux Forum Steering Committee, and has in the past served as CTO and member of the Board of Directors of the 1394 Trade Association and on the UPnP Steering Committee. Mr. Smyers holds a BA in Physics and Philosophy from Cornell University
Eric Harber is Vice President of Corporate and Business Development at Qpass, a gl obal leader in mobile commerce solutions. In his role he provides worldwide leadership for partnerships, strategic investments, mergers and acquisitions, licensing, and all strategic alliances. Eric has almost 20 years of extensive management experience creating, building and launching products, services, and companies globally. His industry expertise spans mobile, telecommunications, networking, media and entertainment, and e-commerce. Prior to joining Qpass, Eric was General Manager and Executive Vice President of ChannelAdvisor Corporation, where he built relationships with customers and partners including Google, eBay, Amazon, Motorola, Sprint, Sears and IBM, establishing ChannelAdvisor as a leader in e-commerce/online marketplace software and services. Previously, Eric helped to start, grow, and lead Pinpoint Networks (now Motricity). Eric held various executive leadership positions there, formulating strategy, driving execution by successfully selling to major mobile operators, and managing dramatic growth for the company. Eric was also part of the original executive team that built and successfully sold Netsation, a venture-backed networking software company, to Nortel Networks. He subsequently held global marketing responsibility at Nortel and also brings expertise from his leadership positions at Citigroup, Andersen Consulting (now Accenture), and his own consulting firm. Eric has held several board and corporate advisory board positions, and currently serves on the Americas board of the Mobile Entertainment Forum. Eric studied at Oxford University and earned a degree in Engineering from Stanford University, as well as an MBA from Duke University. Eric is an author, lecturer, and frequent speaker on a variety of global industry topics including mobile and media issues.
