TV networks have embraced interactivity for almost a decade, both with standalone website content and synchronized, Enhanced TV content with multiple viewing options and interactivity. Much has changed over that time, including technological barriers, assumptions about consumer preferences, business models, and the economic climate for interactive experimentation. What's working and what's not? What can the industry expect to see over the next 24 months? Is there a future for synchronized content, or is "interactive TV" destined to be only about VOD and SVOD? In this session we bring together top programming executives and creators who are dealing with what it means to leverage and extend their on-air television programming to the Internet or into the Interactive TV space.

Simon Danker, Director, Digital Media, BBC: The BBC's commercial arm, BBC Worldwide, has appointed Simon Danker as director of digital media. Danker, who will report to David Moody, BBC Worldwide's managing director of digital media and director of strategy, will lead a team tasked with looking at widening the availability of BBC programming on new platforms, such as the Internet and mobile phones. The team will also be responsible for developing a commercial version of the BBC's iPlayer, which will allow the downloading of BBC TV and radio programs via the Internet. In addition, Danker's responsibilities will include finding new commercial opportunities for BBC Worldwide's music rights, a
nd developing partnerships with music and new media industry players both in the UK and internationally. "New distribution platforms will give audiences what they really want--access on-demand to an unprecedented choice of programming," Danker said in a prepared statement. "The quality and breadth of BBC Worldwide's catalog, and our global reputation as a distributor, means we are in a great position to work with platform owners and producers to generate new income streams in this space." Danker, who joined BBC Worldwide in 2000, was previously director of UK and Ireland TV within the unit's Global TV Sales division. Among other things, he managed and expanded program sales to VOD platforms, such as BT Vision and HomeChoice.

Steve Bennedik is Editor of Sky News Networked Media, responsible for all of the 24-hour news channel's interactive elements. In 2000, he launched Sky News Active, the world's first interactive television news service, and has also launched Sky News in Ireland, setting up two nightly news programmes. He is currently working on a re-launch of the news site <http://www.sky.com/news>www.sky.com/news. Before joining Sky he worked for Yorkshire Television, the BBC and Yorkshire Post Newspapers.







Anthony Lilley is Chief Executive of Magic Lantern Productions, an award-winning interactive media production company specialising in content for broadband and multi- platform media. Established in 1996, the company’s clients include Channel 4, BBC, BT, Tiscali, Telewest, Entertainment Rights plc, Discovery, C21 Media, the UK Film Council, NESTA, the DTI, the DfES, Skillset, Tate Modern and many others. Anthony is Executive Producer and co-creator of Channel 4’s multi-award winning broadband channel, FourDocs (www.channel4.com/fourdocs) and Consultant Producer with ABC Australia on user-created content. He has experience of television and corporate video production and previously worked in theatre as a lighting designer, producer and director having taken a degree in law at Magdalen College, Oxford. Anthony is a member of the Content Board of OFCOM and of the board of BECTA (the British Educational Communications Technology Agency). He is also a member of the Advisory Council of the Broadband Stakeholders’ Group. Anthony was Vice-Chair of PACT and Chair of its Interactive Media Policy Group from 2000-06. He has also been a Working Group Chairman of the DCMS/DTI Creative Industries IP Forum, a member of the Advisory Boards of NESTA Futurelab and the IPPR Intellectual Property Project and a director of iCommons Ltd. In 2002-3 he was Chair of the UK Digital Content Forum. He advises the DTI on broadband content and innovation, the DfES on the future of media, and has previously advised the DCMS and the Cabinet Office and assisted OFCOM in its reviews of Public Service Broadcasting and Television Production. He has given masterclasses and participated in numerous conferences in the UK and internationally including chairing the UK-China ICT Summit in Beijing in 2004. Anthony has a fortnightly new media column in The Guardian newspaper, is Contributing Editor of FutureMedia Magazine and has written for the Financial Times, Broadcast, Television Magazine and Televisual. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts, married and lives in Lewes, East Sussex, England.

Jeff Binder, President, Broadbus: Jeffrey Binder is a Broadbus founder and serves as President. He was previously CEO of Magic Music, where he managed development of three generations of DRAM based server technology, overseeing the overall operations of the company from start-up to 30%+ market-share in just two years. He was formerly founding CEO of the Leading Golf Companies, successfully delivering frequency marketing client/server technology and systems in partnership with the top 500 golf courses in the US and major airlines, including American Airlines and TWA. Binder is a named inventor to several Broadbus patents and continues to collaborate and innovate with the Broadbus team. He has authored key vision documents published in major industry journals regarding television-on-demand (TOD®), and frequently presents at major audio and cable industry events. In addition, he serves on the boards of Greater Chicago Bank (a regional FDIC Banking), and FastenerOasis, Inc., (the e-commerce arm of one of the largest fastener distributors in the US). He is a member of NCTA, CTAM, SCTE and has been a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences since 1988.



Gary Marenzi, President, Ensequence: Entertainment industry veteran Gary Marenzi serves as Ensequence president, representing Ensequence within the entertainment and advertising communities worldwide and expanding the company's presence as the leading worldwide provider of interactive TV software and services. Marenzi was most recently founder and president of Marenzi & Associates, providing strategic management advice and implementation for the media and entertainment industry. He served as president of Paramount International Television from 1997-2004, where he oversaw the multi-billion dollar distribution of Paramount feature films and television programming to broadcasters and channels outside of the United States. He supervised the development and production of television programming customized for the international marketplace and the co-production and co-financing of television programming with international partners, including the highly successful USA Network series, "The Dead Zone." During his tenure, Marenzi also forged key long-term relationships with such major clients as ProSieben/Sat1 (Germany), M6 (France), RAI (Italy), BSkyB (UK), Ten Network (Australia), SBS (Scandinavia/Benelux) and Global (Canada). During Marenzi's four-and-a-half years with MGM, he was responsible for MGM's international television and worldwide pay-TV operations as president, MGM Telecommunications Group. Marenzi was the architect of MGM's successful long-term production alliance with Showtime Networks. From 1989 to 1992, Marenzi was based in London as president of United International Pictures Pay-TV GroupÑa joint venture of Paramount, MGM and Universal Pictures. Marenzi started his career in Hollywood with Columbia Pictures, where he worked as Director of Pay-TV for the United States and Canada. Marenzi serves on the board of the National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE) and on the executive committee of the International TV Academy, and is also a member of the Executive Branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He holds a bachelor's degree from Stanford University and a master's degree from Stanford's Graduate School of Business.
