Oliver Slipper, Chief Executive Officer, Premium TV: Oliver is the Chief Executive Offi cer (CEO) of Premium TV, the leading provider of broadband and mobile services to the Sports and Entertainment sectors. Oliver joined Premium TV in 2001 and was promoted to the top role from his previous role as Commercial Director in January 2006. Since taking over Oliver has overseen Premium TVs international and entertainment growth strategy and has secured its place as the number one provider of digital services for the sporting industry. As Commercial Director, Oliver oversaw the transformation of the business from NTLs sports subsidiary into an independently owned, multi-platform play. Under his stewardship the business won multiple new clients: ITV, UKTV, Turner, NTL, Racing UK, Haymarket Publishing, F.A. Premier League, The Football League, The Scottish Premier League, The England & Wales Cricket Board, World Rally Championship, World Superbikes, Professional Darts Corporation, ATP Masters Series, WTA, ATP Tour, GP Masters, Coca-Cola, Carling and Betfair. On behalf of each of these clients Oliver ran a 40 strong commercial department that generated significant client revenue from digital advertising and sponsorship, broadband subscription, mobile subscription, betting, new media syndication and online merchandising. Prior to Premium TV, Oliver worked in Accentures Media & Entertainment division, working on clients such as Sony Playstation, Cable & Wireless Communications and NTL. Oliver is a keen sportsman and was formally a professional cricketer with Surrey County Cricket Club.
Paul Bennun is co-owner and Director of Strategy of Somethin' Else, a leading cr oss-platform production company in the UK. It is the largest radio independent, 9th largest TV entertainment indie and a major interactive content producer. He leads the Company's interactive department and future business strategy. Paul holds internationally recognised awards in radio, software, mobile technology and interactive broadcasting such as Bafta Awards, Sony Radio Academy Awards and the GSM Association Awards. He co-authored the DTIs recent report on the future of digital music, and is an artistic collaborator with the likes of John Berger and Theatre de Complicite. Paul is also a broadcaster, presenting science, technology and usability programmes for the BBC.
Raghav "Rags" Gupta is Director of Business Development & Strategy at Brightcove, the internet TV service, where he works on content and distribution partnerships. Prior to Brightcove, Rags consulted to a number of companies around their digital media strategy and fundraising, including NPR, Giant Step and kSolo, and currently works with digital media startups and entrepreneurs in an advisory capacity. Rags served as the COO of Live365, the leading internet radio network, building the company into a top user-created radio destination with thousands of channels and millions of users. At Live365, Rags drove the Companys strategy and overall vision in a general management capacity, shaping the Companys business development, label relations, advertising sales and development functions. Since becoming a member of the senior management team in late 2001, Rags helped to raise bridge funding and planned and executed a complete Company turnaround. He also served as a Board Member for DiMA, the Digital Media Association, from 2003 to 2005. Prior to Live365, Rags was a strategy consultant at Mercer Management Consulting, working with Fortune 1000 clients in the insurance and publishing industries. Rags has spoken at a number of high profile industry events in the U.S., Europe and Asia including Digital Hollywood, Jupiter Plug-In, Streaming Media, Digital Music Forum, and the Kagan Radio Summit among others. He has been quoted in key media outlets including the Wall Street Journal, San Jose Mercury News, San Francisco Chronicle, Boston Globe, New York Post, and the BBC, and recently appeared in the PBS documentary on the dot com boom, "Message in a Bubble." Rags holds a degree from Princeton University where he majored in Civil Engineering and Operations Research. Dale Herigstad, Executive Creative Director, Schematic: As one of the most recognized names in design, Dale provides the vision for all aspects of Schematics creative and user experience development. His thirty years of broadcast and interactive design experience makes him a driving force and integral part of Schematics push to converge enhanced and interactive television, broadband networks, emerging wireless media, and the Internet. A leader in interactive television development, Dale designed the interface for Time Warner's Full Service Network in Orlando and pioneered new spatial navigation interfaces and enhanced programming for Sony, CSI, Survivor Africa, Life360, and Turner Classic Movies. Dale has designed more than 15 network broadcast packages, including directing and designing the on-air graphics for three Winter Olympics broadcasts on CBS, each earning him an Emmy award. Dale earned a fourth Emmy on behalf of Schematic in 2005 for his contribution to the Cablevision iO digital cable service. Prior to Schematic, Dale started H Design, a company that created network-branding packages for Fox Network, Fox Sports Net, WebMD Television, and National Geographic Channels International. Before founding H Design, Dale was an independent creative director working with television industry giant Harry Marks, creating branding systems for ABC, NBC and other leading motion design firms in Hollywood. Dale has served on the Broadcast Designers Association and the Interactive Television Alliance board of directors. He regularly speaks at industry events, including Promax/BDA, SIGGRAPH, CHI, DICE and MILIA. He has been active with the AFI Enhanced TV Workshop for many years, and has taught design, information architecture, and animation at UCLA, the California Institute of the Arts, and Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Dale is also a fellow at Ball State University, working closely with the schools user experience testing labs.
Mickey Kalifa, General Manager, PlayJam Worldwide. A division of OpenTV Inc. (in turn a subsidiary of Liberty Media), PlayJam is the worlds leading interactive TV games channel with distribution in 6 countries, available on 9 cable and satellite operators. The PlayJam games channel averages over 19 million paid game plays each year. Kalifa is based in London and has been with OpenTV for close to 4 years. He is responsible for all OpenTVs gaming activities worldwide. Games account for a very large proportion of overall activity in interactive TV, and game playing via interactive TV is set to grow further over the coming years, as digital TV penetration increases. Prior to PlayJam-OpenTV, Kalifa was with BSkyB, Time Warner, Disney, Young & Rubicam and PriceWaterhouseCoopers covering a variety of roles including general management, business development and finance.
Tony Hart, 51, is business development manager and has 25 years experience in sales and marketing in the computer, networking and telecoms industries. He has worked for leading companies in these sectors including Intel Corporation, where he ran the European videoconferencing business, and RM plc, where he was sales manager for the education market. Prior to joining Packet Vision, he ran the European telecoms marketing team for Cisco Systems. Tony has an MA in Engineering Science and Economics from Oxford University and an MBA from Henley Management College.
Michelle M. Wu, Ph. D.: Dr. Wu currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Mediazone in the US, as well as the newly consolidated SportsCN and Mediazone initiative in China. Through this entity focused on online entertainment content, she is responsible for managing some major broadband portals, including www.mediazone.com, a leading broadband broadcaster for sports events and other lifestyle content, www.chinaportal.com, the largest video portal for Chinese living overseas, www.KuduClub.com, the largest broadband portal for South African expatriates, and www.mediazone.com.cn, the recently launched broadband distribution site in China. Dr. Wu came to Mediazone with extensive experience in Internet industry. She was the founder, Chairman and CEO of China Internet Group (CIG), a leading incubator for technology companies in China. She also served as CTO, VP of engineering and acting VP of Sales and Marketing at Why Not Creations, a leading online rich media greeting card company with offices in U.S., France, Japan, Germany and Vietnam. She also spent time as Director of Product Management at the Internet Shopping Network, where she managed one of the most popular auction web sites in the world. Prior to that, she was a senior member of research and technical staff at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center. In addition, Dr. Wu was the Founder and served as the President of China-U.S. Technology Association, a non-profit organization in California to promote technology exchange and collaborations between the United States and China. She also served on the advisory board for Siemens Mobile Acceleration (smac) headquartered in Germany. Dr. Wu is regularly invited to speak at various conferences, forums, seminars and other events in US and China, frequently interviewed and quoted by major media in China, maintains a column in one of the most popular magazines in Taiwan, and served as the judge of the national and regional business plan competitions organized by the Chinese government. Dr. Wu holds a B.A. in applied physics from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and received her M. S. and Ph. D. in physics from Princeton University.
Donald A. Jasko, Chief Executive Officer of Digital Economics, is an attorney by training . He has, for the past twenty years, focused his energies on the economic, technological and legal issues involved in the licensing of creative content. From 1981 through 1997 Don served in various management positions at the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), in which he was instrumental in transforming the process by which performance rights in musical compositions are licensed for television broadcast. He was a key participant in the complex music industry negotiations that culminated in the new "per program" license, as well as the development of the process by which music performance and pricing data are exchanged electronically between television broadcasters and performing rights organizations. In 1997 Don resigned from ASCAP to found Digital Economics. In 1998 Don became a major catalyst in the merger of Solana Technology Development Corporation with Aris Technologies, thereby creating Verance Corporation. He joined Verance in 2000 with key product development, marketing, business affairs, and sales responsibilities for Verances digital audio watermark technology in the music and entertainment sectors. He also played a key role in forging international joint ventures. Don returned to the leadership of Digital Economics in October 2001. As Chief Executive Officer, he provides business affairs, publishing administration, license administration and product development services to Digital Economics clients. He also serves as an expert witness in litigation involving the licensing and valuation of creative content. His clients and collaborators include composers and recording artists, publishers, programmers, advertisers, content aggregators, software companies and performance verification services. He speaks regularly at industry conferences and educational programs. Prior to earning his JurisDoctor degree at Seton Hall University School of Law, Don received a Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude (with a major in Government) from the University of Virginia. He is also a graduate of the Program on Investment Decisions and Behavioral Finance at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Don has run numerous long-distance races, including two New York Marathons. He is a member of the Soaring Society of America and serves as President of the Association for Psychological Type/Los Angeles.
