Entertainment Expands the Digital Home: Networking, Sharing and Protecting
With the introduction and planning of the next generation of digital entertainment products from DVD video to audio into the home now in process, the emergence of the fully digital home is at hand. With the fully networked and integrated entertainment experience as the goal, content must be immediately available to the consumer in an easy as well as secure environment. In this session, we will begin the discussion of what the distribution of product in digital home will look like in the coming year as well as how the technologies of the future will enable entertainment in the digital home to emerge.

Brian Hofstetter, Director Connected Entertainment, Zoran Corporation: Brian Hofstetter, with over 20 years experience in the electronic creation and delivery systems industries, currently directs the Connected Entertainment strategic initiative for Zoran Corporation. Since joining Zoran in 2000, he has served in multiple management and product marketing roles, defining new video and audio products for global consumer electronics markets. Prior to moving to the semiconductor industry, he worked in the motion picture and recording product industries. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley.
Peter Kaars, Director of Business Development, Philips Electronics: P eter Kaars, Director of Business Development for Philips Electronics, has been with Philips for more than 15 years. Kaars, based in the U.S./West Coast, represents Philips in a technical capacity working with content providers on issues ranging from DRM and content protection to new technologies and entertainment formats. In this position, he is at the crossroads of the media and high-technology industries. Kaars began his career in Philips in Computer Aided Design, working in multimedia with Philips Research in the Netherlands. In 1994, he joined Philips Digital Networks, where he played a key role in such pioneering developments as Video on Demand, Digital Satellite TV, Digital Cable TV and Internet streaming. During this time, he also served as a member of various DVB standardization committees including the Multimedia Home Platform for interactive television. Kaars was graduated from the University of Amsterdam, where he worked on numerical simulation of solid state physics.
Brett Marl, Chief Technology Officer, Pure Networks: Brett Marl is responsible for setting the technical direction of the company. Brett comes to Pure Networks with more than 12 years of software development and management experience, bringing significant expertise in the wireless, Internet, and security technologies. Before joining Pure Networks, Brett co-founded and served as Vice President of Engineering for ViAir, Inc. In this role, Brett led the development and architecture of the massively scalable, carrier-grade Wireless-Inbox product. Prior to ViAir, Brett was the development manager for Microsoft's MSN Mobile Services and was responsible for overall services design and architecture. Brett led the MSN Mobile Services development team through 3 successful commercial releases in just 12 months. Prior to his MSN assignment, Brett was the lead developer for Microsoft Outlook Express. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science
Daniel Putterman is President and CEO of Mediabolic. He founded the company in 19 99 and his leadership and vision have driven the companys success. Prior to Mediabolic, Putterman founded Maximum Information, Inc., the first enterprise Web management solution company, acquired by NetManage (NASDAQ: NETM) in 1996. He went on to co-found EoExchange, a supplier of Internet Research Solutions to vertical portals, one year later. A technology industry veteran, Putterman held senior management positions at Borland International and Symantec Corporation and was responsible for product management, business development and worldwide evangelism.
Jack Guedj, CEO, Magnum Semiconductor: Dr. Jack Guedj is responsible for the worl dwide operations of Magnum Semiconductor, Inc., (Magnum), and brings more 20 years of semiconductor and systems expertise and leadership. Guedj successfully led the due diligence effort for Magnum's recent spin-off from Cirrus Logic (Cirrus) on July 1, 2005, and procured investment funding. He successfully established and staffed Magnum's operations, human resources and finance departments. As part of the spin-off transition, Guedj directed an employee recruitment program that achieved more than 97% employee retention and developed successful third-party consulting contracts. Guedj joined Cirrus in early 2003 as its vice president of worldwide marketing and sales of video products, and was chartered with the responsibility of worldwide marketing and business development efforts, leading to the division's growth in DVD recorders, DVD/HDD camcorders and DTV/PC media adapters. Guedj was instrumental in securing related design wins at LG, Samsung, Sony, Mustek and Grundig/Beko, resulting in revenues in excess of $9 million in the second quarter of CY2005. Prior to Cirrus, Guedj was President of Tvia, Inc. (Tvia), a leading provider of streaming media processor ICs and software for the residential broadband, information access devices and digital TV markets. He commanded the successful IPO process for Tvia which was completed in August 2000, and raised related funding of more than $70M that year. During his tenure at Tvia, Guedj grew its worldwide operations from a 30+ employee start-up to a public company employing more than 300 personnel worldwide, including its U.S. headquarters and research and development center in China. Before joining Tvia, Guedj held the position of vice president of worldwide sales and marketing at Faroudja, a premier provider of professional video systems and digital TV ICs. He also served as the director of the digital media/residential broadband strategic market segment at National Semiconductor, serving as the driving force into these strategic markets. He also led National's marketing and sales activities for the broadband set-top box, cable modem, home gateway and digital TV markets. Guedj attained a MSEE from "Physique et Chimie de Paris" and was awarded a doctoral cycle DEA degree from the University of Paris. Guedj earned his MBA from the University of California Los Angeles Graduate School of Management.
Billy McNair, co-founder and CEO, Peerflix: Billy sets corporate strategy and oversees all business and operational aspects of Peerflix. Prior to co-founding Peerflix, Billy served as Principal at GrayStar Group, a consulting firm providing strategic services to leading technology companies such as Ariba, Borland, Fortify Software, Mobius Venture Capital and Barracuda Networks. Before his tenure at GrayStar Group, Billy was Vice President of Business Development and General Counsel at Spinway, a provider of e-commerce and private-label ISP solutions for leading brick and mortar retailers. He was instrumental in the acquisition by Bluelight.com and was responsible for orchestrating partnerships with Hewlett-Packard, Costco, Barnes & Noble, Capital One, and Ace Hardware, among others. Prior to joining Spinway, Billy worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Advanced Micro Devices, and several law firms and strategic consulting organizations in Washington, D.C. He holds a B.A. from UCLA, and J.D. and M.B.A. degrees from Santa Clara University.
Ross Rubin is a director of industry analysis for The NPD Group. With over fifteen years analyzing and writing about the technology industry, Ross leads The NPD Groups coverage of consumer electronics with an emphasis on connected intelligent devices, software, and services. Prior to NPD, Ross was a vice president and chief research fellow at Jupiter Media Metrix, where he founded and managed research services focusing on PCs and peripherals, smart devices, wireless, broadband, and video games. Previously, he was an IT analyst in the advanced technologies group at Salomon Brothers, where he led a team developing the company's first extranet application, and at McKinsey & Company, where he devised strategies for improving electronic communications and workflow. Ross has been a featured speaker at many conferences, including CES (for which he serves on the advisory board), Comdex, and E3, and has been quoted in dozens of media outlets, including ABC News, CNN, The Wall Street Journal, Time, Forbes and Business Week. Ross has written or contributed to 11 books and more than 100 magazine articles for publications such as Internet World, PC/Computing, Information Week, and MacWEEK. In 2003, he served as founding editor of Ziff Davis's Wireless Supersite, now part of eWEEK, where he wrote a twice-weekly column. Ross has a B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University.
