Embracing the Connected Consumer - Entertainment, Content and Technology - From the Digital Home to the Mobile and Wi-Fi Universe
In the six years since the burst of the technology bubble, an amazing thing has happened, the technology industry has once again, perhaps more quietly this time, transformed the relationship of the consumer to communications, media, entertainment and technology. . Whether it’s a wirelessly connected home comprised of unlimited content via DTV and HDTV, PDAs, laptops, desktops PCs, a Set-Top connection, IM devices or telephony system; a broadband mobile device, a fully loaded media friendly car, a broadband workspace or public space, the consumer is connected all the time, sending or receiving information and content. In this session, we will explore what it means to create and enable that fully connected universe.

Mary Francia, Vice President Sales & Marketing Home Networks, Consumer Electronics, Royal Philips Electronics: A global telecommunications executive with experience in Europe, North and South America, Mary Francia is Vice President, Sales & Marketing for Philips Consumer Electronics, a division of Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands. In this position, Ms. Francia has responsibility for developing Home Networks in the Americas with IP enabled devices for access, communications, control, and entertainment. Ms. Francia joined Philips in 2003 as Senior Director, Operator Business Innovation for the Division, Region Europe, based in Amsterdam. In this role, as part of the Connected Planet Vision of Philips, she created a new sales channel for Consumer Electronics, and managed alliances with major Telecom Operators in Europe for cooperation in marketing, distribution, and product creation. Ms. Francia has held executive positions in Sales & Marketing in Healthcare, Cable TV, Wireless, and OEM Outsourcing. A native of Peru, Ms. Francia has an MBA in International Business. She and her husband, Gus have 2 children and live in Atlanta, USA

Stephen Condon, Vice President, Marketing, Entriq: Stephen Condon brings more than 20 years of marketing experience to Entriq from the advertising and technology industries. His primary role as Vice President, Marketing, is to clearly position the company in the pay media marketplace. His responsibilities include strategic marketing, marketing communications as well as developing the company's advertising, public relations and trade show strategy. Condon commenced his career in advertising working for J. Walter Thompson and Chiat/Day on leading brands such as Kraft Foods and NutraSweet. His advertising career introduced him to the high technology entertainment business when he worked on the hugely successful launch of DIRECTV at the advertising agency, Campbell-Ewald. He later joined DIRECTV, as Senior Director of Marketing and was responsible for program marketing and subscriber acquisition promotions. In 1998 Condon moved from delivering video over satellite to delivering video on the Internet and joined INTERVU as Vice President of Marketing where he lead strategic marketing efforts and marketing communications up until the Akamai acquisition. Since then, Condon has held various senior technology marketing positions including Chief Marketing Officer of Intertainer, which was one of the first online video delivery portals. He holds a bachelor's degree in business and has completed post graduate studies in Marketing at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia

Scott Smyers, Chairman, DLNA Board of Directors, Vice President, Network and Systems Architecture Division, Platform Technology Center of America, Sony Electronics: Mr. Smyers serves as the chairman of the Board of Directors of Digital Living Network Alliance and as President of DLNA Corporation. Aside from his DLNA duties, Mr. Smyers is also Vice President of the Network and Systems Architecture Division of the Platform Technology Center of America at Sony Electronics. Mr. Smyers’ particular area of focus is system architecture, system I/O and interfaces. Through his leadership as chairman of the 1394 Trade Association's AV Working Group over the course of seven years, Mr. Smyers has served a pivotal role in bringing about a suite of standards that define consumer device discovery and control. Mr. Smyers now also serves as the Chairman of the CE Linux Forum Steering Committee, and has in the past served as CTO and member of the Board of Directors of the 1394 Trade Association and on the UPnP Steering Committee. Mr. Smyers holds a BA in Physics and Philosophy from Cornell University



Stephen DiFranco,
Corporate Vice President of Consumer Sales and Marketing, AMD: As Corporate Vice President of Consumer Sales and Marketing at AMD Stephen DiFranco is responsible for how AMD-based desktop and notebook PCs are marketed and sold in stores around the world. Mr. DiFranco has spent over 20 years selling, managing, and marketing consumer and professional electronics. He has published numerous white papers and articles on implementing and measuring marketing campaigns, establishing and managing sales channels, and how the industry faces some of its more difficult challenges. Prior to joining AMD, Mr. DiFranco served as Vice President, Corporate Marketing for Maxtor Corporation where he was responsible for global marketing strategy including all marketing activities, channel development, corporate branding initiatives and marketing communications. Prior to joining Maxtor, he served as the Executive Vice President of Marketing for WebGain, Inc., a software provider for enterprise companies. DiFranco also has held various senior positions with Iomega Corporation and Sony Electronics, Inc. During his decade with Sony, he served as Sony's spokesperson on the economic impact and professional application for DTV, and served as liaison to network TV executives on issues relating to implementing DTV for sports production. Stephen DiFranco holds a bachelor’s degree from Montclair State College in New Jersey.

Igor Taber is Manager of UMPC infotainment programs at Intel. In this role, Igor Taber is responsible for Ultra Mobile PC entertainment and content strategy, working with ISVs, content providers worldwide. Previously, Igor was responsible for US WiMAX business development efforts. Igor has also been a chief of staff for one of Intel’s corporate Vice Presidents and held other sales, marketing and business development positions in US and Europe. Igor has engineering degree from University of Kansas.










Giel Rutten,
Senior Vice President and General Manager, Home Business Unit, NXP: Giel Rutten is Senior Vice President and General Manager for the Home business unit of NXP, the newly independent semiconductor company founded by Philips. Giel is responsible for developing leading multimedia semiconductor solutions for consumer-focused applications. Under his direction, the company’s vibrant media technologies will support everything from Digital televisions to set-top boxes, digital media adapters to solutions for TV on PC together with advanced media processors and front end tuners. In this role, he is part of the NXP executive management team (EMT), headed by Frans van Houten. Giel has aligned the strategic focus of his business, building complete system solutions for three target markets; televisions, set-top boxes and home media devices, and PC TV. He also manages the development of a variety of audio and video components essential in the home of the future. Previously, Giel served as the senior vice president and general manager of the Home business unit at Philips Semiconductors. He first joined Philips in 1984 as an engineer. He acted as senior vice president and general manager for the TV Systems business unit for several years and prior to that as general manager for the Mainstream TV Systems business line. Giel holds a master's degree in physics and chemistry from the University of Nijmegen, the Netherlands.
