| Wednesday, March 29 3:50 PM - 5:00 PM Track I: Entertainment Expands the Digital Home: Networking, Sharing and Protecting With the introduction and planning of the next generation of digital entertainment products from DVD video to audio into the home now in process, the emergence of the fully digital home is at hand. With the fully networked and integrated entertainment experience as the goal, content must be immediately available to the consumer in an easy as well as secure environment. In this session, we will begin the discussion of what the distribution of product in digital home will look like in the coming year as well as how the technologies of the future will enable entertainment in the digital home to emerge. Brian Hofstetter, Director Connected Entertainment, Zoran Corporation Gaben Chancellor, CEO, Creative and Design Director, Vidiva Peter B. Kaars, Director of Business Development, Philips Electronics, Moderator Peter Kaars, Director of Business Development, Philips Electronics: P eter Kaars, Director of Business Development for Philips Electronics, has been with Philips for more than 15 years. Kaars, based in the U.S./West Coast, represents Philips in a technical capacity working with content providers on issues ranging from DRM and content protection to new technologies and entertainment formats. In this position, he is at the crossroads of the media and high-technology industries. Kaars began his career in Philips in Computer Aided Design, working in multimedia with Philips Research in the Netherlands. In 1994, he joined Philips Digital Networks, where he played a key role in such pioneering developments as Video on Demand, Digital Satellite TV, Digital Cable TV and Internet streaming. During this time, he also served as a member of various DVB standardization committees including the Multimedia Home Platform for interactive television. Kaars was graduated from the University of Amsterdam, where he worked on numerical simulation of solid state physics.Brad Hunt, Executive Vice President, Chief Technology Officer, Motion Picture Association of America, Inc.: Mr. Hunt is the Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for the Motion Picture Association of America, Inc. He works closely with the seven major studios that make up the MPAA on content protection and anti-piracy related issues and policymaking. He leads the MPAA Office of Technologys involvement in content protection specifications and licensing, international standardization efforts, regulatory and legislative initiatives, and content protection compliance monitoring and enforcement. Mr. Hunt has worked in the motion picture and television industry for over twenty-five years in a variety of roles ranging from research & development, marketing, strategic planning, and executive management in the motion picture film, digital post-production hardware, and post-production service businesses. Mr. Hunt has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and an M.B.A. degree from the William E. Simon Graduate Business School at the University of Rochester. He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and a member of the Academys Science and Technology Council. He is also a Fellow of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.Anthony Wood, CEO, Roku: Anthony Wood is involved in all aspects of Roku, with a special focus on product design and development. Prior to Roku, Anthony invented the digital video recorder (DVR) and founded ReplayTV, where he served as President and CEO before the company's acquisition by SONICblue. He then became Senior Vice President of Engineering and was responsible for the ReplayTV and Rio product lines. Before ReplayTV, Anthony was Founder and CEO of iband Inc an Internet software company sold to Macromedia, whose code base became a central part of the original core code of Macromedia Dreamweaver. At Macromedia, Anthony was Vice President of Internet Authoring. Earlier in his career, Anthony was Founder and CEO of SunRize Industries, a leading supplier of hardware and software tools for non-linear audio recording and editing. Anthony holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University.Richard Bullwinkle, Senior Product Marketing Director and Chief Evangelist, Mediabolic: Richard Bullwinkle is well known in the digital networking entertainment industry from his previous roles at Digital Networks North America, Inc. (DNNA) and TiVo. As TiVos chief evangelist and a senior member of TiVos product marketing team, Bullwinkle helped create and develop the TiVo products, and then played an instrumental role in helping create the well-known publicity around the TiVo products and brand. Bullwinkle joins Mediabolic from DNNA, a wholly owned subsidiary of D&M Holdings U.S., Inc. and the parent company of Rio Audio and ReplayTV. As a senior member of Rio Audios Product Marketing team, he helped create and market some of the most popular MP3 players in the US. Prior to that he was in charge of the user experience, including software and interface design, at ReplayTV. Bullwinkle graduated from Rollins College in Florida with degrees in English and Music Brian Hofstetter, Director Connected Entertainment, Zoran Corporation: Brian Hofstetter, with over 20 years experience in the electronic creation and delivery systems industries, currently directs the Connected Entertainment strategic initiative for Zoran Corporation. Since joining Zoran in 2000, he has served in multiple management and product marketing roles, defining new video and audio products for global consumer electronics markets. Prior to moving to the semiconductor industry, he worked in the motion picture and recording product industries. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley. Gaben Chancellor is CEO, Creative and Design Director for Vidiva, a product design and integrated services development company doing pioneering work in the interoperable convergence of Personal Computers and Consumer Electronics. As an award-winning, classically trained cross-media designer and project director, Gaben has built his business success around a diversity of experience, skill sets, and projects. He began his career working for an advertising agency that didn't yet have a single computer, working in a darkroom, on a paste-up board and behind the typewriter. Fascinated by the rise of technology, he introduced the first computer to their toolset and never looked back. Since his humble beginnings, he has founded and run three design and development companies, as well as a digital content company. Gaben has directed award-winning projects with B.B. King, Apple Computer, Dolby Systems, Zoran, ATO, Siemens, Intel, Creative Labs, Lockheed Martin, and many others. |
