Movies may have been the driver in the pay TV universe, but with the arrival of on-demand television, an entirely new set of programming and viewing concepts may be on the verge of breaking through in the marketplace. This panel will explore the opportunity for syndicators, networks, cable, satellite and telco operators to provide the new vision of OnDemand television and what the entirely new wired TV world will look like into the future. With the arrival of DTV and the PVR, the viewer experience will never be the same.

Tim Hanlon, Senior Vice President, Ventures, Denuo - A Publicis Groupe Company: Tim Hanlon is chiefly responsible for all US client activity and agency initiatives in the field of emerging media technologies, including the firm’s ground-breaking TV 2.0 Practice, centered around evolutionary television platforms such as interactive/enhanced television, on-demand video, digital video recording, interactive program guide navigation, addressable advertising, and digital broadcasting/datacasting. Hanlon has over a decade of traditional and interactive agency media experience including roles as Vice President/Director, Strategy & Business Development for the Digital Marketing Group of Chicago-based marketing services agency Frankel, and Director of Interactive Media at Creative Alliance in Louisville, KY, USA. He also served as Advertising Media Manager for the in-house agency of credit card issuer MBNA America in Wilmington, DE, USA. Hanlon also has wide-ranging journalism experience, including production and writing stints at CBS News, Sports Illustrated and the Voice of America. Among numerous advertising and television industry activities, Hanlon currently serves as Chairman of the American Association of Advertising Agencies (AAAA) Advanced Television Committee, as a member of the Steering Committee of the Innovation in Digital Advertising (IDiA) Consortium, and as a member of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) Advanced Media Committee. He is also an inaugural recipient of Interactive Television Today’s Leadership in Interactive Television Award, and has been named as one of MEDIA Magazine’s "100 People to Know." Hanlon holds a BA from Georgetown University, an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, and an MA from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California.

Dmitri Ponomarev oversees the development and programming of Gemstar-TV Guide’s new on-demand network TV Guide SPOT. The network features original short-form entertainment programs that help consumers navigate their ever-expanding content choices by guiding them to the most compelling fare on TV. The network reaches approximately 20 million consumers and is available to Comcast Cable, Time Warner Cable and Insight Communications digital cable subscribers, as well as to tvguide.com, and select TiVo customers. Previously, Ponomarev was General Manager of Interactive Platforms for TVG Network, the interactive horseracing network, where he was responsible for the development, day-to-day operations and marketing of TVG’s wagering platforms, including its web site, automated telephone betting system and iTV wagering application available on DISH Network. Prior to that, Ponomarev served as Director of Business Development and Strategic Planning for Gemstar-TV Guide International, TVG’s parent company. He was responsible for business and operational planning, and strategic development for the company’s cable and satellite businesses. Ponomarev holds a BA in Economics from UCLA and an MBA with distinction from Harvard Business School.

Steve Canepa, IBM, Vice President, IBM Global Media & Entertainment Industry: As Vice President, Global Media and Entertainment Industry, Steve is responsible for IBM’s overall results in the Entertainment, Publishing, Broadcast, Cable, Satellite, Sports and Advertising customer segments worldwide. He is also the founder of and a key leader in IBM’s cross-industry Digital Media initiative. Steve has guided the marketplace strategy and solution offerings for IBM’s Global M&E Industry organization since 1995. He directs the worldwide sales of IBM’s broad portfolio of hardware, software and services and is responsible for IBM’s marketing activities, including all messaging and partnerships. During that time frame, IBM’s overall business has grown dramatically and is now the largest technology and services organization serving the global M&E industry. Steve has a deep understanding of the key business imperatives facing firms in the M&E industry and has consulted extensively with senior executives as they look to transform their organizations. He led the recent launch of a portfolio of business solutions – Production and Distribution transformation; and Customer Sales and Service Transformation, which address the market opportunities and profit pressures in today’s highly competitive M&E marketplace. And, he guides the continual development of the IBM digital media framework, addressing the digital value chain. Steve represents IBM’s M&E efforts to the marketplace and has delivered many keynote addresses at Industry conferences: NAB, IBC, Broadcast Asia, Digital Hollywood, Imagina, Frames etc, and often speaks at events, including: NEXPO, CES, iStudio, Content World, etc. He has also appeared on numerous radio and television news programs, including CNBC, CNNfn, C/NET, CBS, ABC, NBC etc. In 2004, he was recognized as one of the 100 most influential executives by Digital Media Magazine. First joining IBM in January 1983, Steve has 20+ years of experience building and leading significant sales, marketing, strategy, consulting, solutions and systems integration organizations. He graduated from UCLA in 1982 with two bachelor of arts degrees: Economics and Political Science with Phi Eta Sigma honors. He received a MBA in 1990 from UCLA, with Beta Gamma Sigma and top field study honors. He has participated in the Wharton School financial management program and Harvard University’s executive curriculum on Strategy formation. With a personal dedication to improving the health and education of children; Steve serves on the Board of Directors for both the Junior Achievement of Southern California and The Bogart Pediatric Cancer Research Fund. He is also a Board Member of MusiCares, the charitable arm of the Grammy Foundation. Steve and his wife, Marianne, live with their three children in Los Angeles, California. Marianne is a Supervising Producer of prime-time one-hour dramatic episodic television series’.

Philip W. Schuman, founder, HighView Media: Prior to forming HighView Media, Mr. Schuman was Co-President, Universal Studios Television Distribution where he was responsible for the successful management of the global theatrical and television product distribution organization for Universal Studios, Inc. Mr. Schuman started at Universal as VP Business Affairs in 1995. Previously, Mr. Schuman was Senior Transactions Counsel, at a division of General Electric. Mr. Schuman began his career obtaining extensive relevant experience specializing in mergers and acquisitions and securities at the law firm of Shearman & Sterling in New York. Mr. Schuman holds a Bachelor of Arts in American History from State University of New York (magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa) at Buffalo – Buffalo, NY and J.D. from Emory University School of Law (Order of the Coif, Law Review)– Atlanta, GA.

Will Griffin, CEO, DoD™: Griffin (age 34) is the CEO of DoD (the first Hip Hop Video on Demand channel in the industry), the TV distribution spin-off of Simmons Lathan Media Group (SLMG). Griffin served as President/COO of SLMG. Griffin's credits include being Executive Producer of several television shows and feature films including: Thug My Guy (VH1), Hip Hop Justice (Court TV), Run’s House (MTV) and Co-Producer of Bishop TD Jakes’ Woman Thou Art Loosed: The Movie (Magnolia/Fox). Griffin is an entrepreneur who has built an expertise of launching entrepreneurial ventures aimed at delivering lifestyle content across all media while COO of Urban Entertainment; GM and EVP of Intermix Media (formerly eUniverse Networks and recently acquired by News Corporation). He is frequently a featured speaker at industry conferences including: Digital Hollywood; Starcom MediaVests’ Tapestry Group Advertising Conference; the Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Weekend and the American Film Institute. Prior to becoming an entrepreneur Griffin held executive positions at News Corporation, McKinsey & Company and Goldman Sachs & Co. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School and Dartmouth College and completed the Entrepreneurial Curriculum at Harvard Business School.

Shahid Khan, Partner, Interactive Broadband Consulting, LLC: Shahid Khan is responsible for developing and leading major client engagements, particularly in the Content space, and is also responsible for the firm's PR and Thought Leadership. Shahid is a seasoned Business and Operations Strategist with strong technology underpinnings and expertise in the Media & Entertainment, Telecommunications and Information Technology industries. He is an acclaimed thought leader, who has been focused on the Digital Media and eBusiness for the last decade, as well as on how disruptive technologies such as internet, broadband, IP and mobile are impacting the Media Industry. He has spent his career of managing senior level executive relationships and working with clients to diagnose their strategic, operational and technological issues and develop innovative solutions to address them. Over the course of his career, Shahid has served leading Media firms such as Bertelsmann, Sony BMG, Warner Music Group, Thomson, Viacom, RIAA, etc. Prior to joining IBB Consulting, Shahid was a Managing Director at BearingPoint (formerly KPMG Consulting) in the Media & Entertainment Industry Practice, responsible for leading BearingPoint’s client relationships and engagements in the Entertainment and Information Services industry segments, and for leading the development of the firm’s Solutions and Thought Leadership in the Digital Content space. Previously, Shahid was a Client Services Partner at IBM Global Services (IGS), where he led the activities of the various arms of IGS focusing on East Coast based Publishing and Entertainment clients. Shahid has also worked at ZEFER, Deloitte Consulting and McGraw Hill, where he participated in and managed Business Strategy, Process Reengineering and IT projects. Shahid holds an MBA in Marketing and Finance from NYU’s Stern School of Business and is a Fellow at U. Penn’s Wharton School of Business. He has published numerous white-papers and articles on topics pertinent to the Media & Telecoms Industry. He is a frequent speaker at leading industry conferences, often quoted in industry publications. Shahid serves on the Board of two technology firms in the mobile and enterprise software space, as well as non-profit organizations that focus on literacy and entrepreneurship.
